i feel like i'm going through psychosis bc i Get this album but i sound crazy talking about it. the way the sky is opalite - a synthetic i.e fake stone but it used to be golden like daylight likeee whats not clicking its so obvious #tome that you cant look at it from a shes a lyrical genius perspective but instead these are satirical lyrics poking fun at how her how persona's a lie and the album is commentary on her being obsessed with catering to every demographic and her morality being very much warped by her success. "i stare directly at the sun but never in the mirror" + "i'm a mirrorball i'll show you every version of yourself tonight" + "you play stupid games you in stupid prizes" shes been telling yall shes not a good person for a while now and i will die on the hill that her art is more fun to consume when you're aware of this HOW ARE YOU GUYS NOT CLOCKING THE >SHOWGIRL< OF IT ALL

literally like every song in this album leads back to her thesis in life of a showgirl (song) that there are pros and cons to living the life of a showgirl. I think this album is far more vulnerable than smthing like ttpd was because she’s not playing a victim card, she’s being honest with us (talking about wanting to kiss someone in a relationship in ruin the friendship, the maddening effect the desire for longevity can have on you as seen in elizabeth taylor, the entirety of father figure, even something like cancelled!). I absolutely agree that her work is so much better if you accept that she’s kind of a terrible person, because then you can stop idolizing her and see her for who she actually is. I also think there’s a chance this satirical approach is less intentional than we’d like to think, but it’s still a fascinating look into her psyche.

yes AND i do think part of the rejection of her fanbase, especially post-folklore, is due to the fact a lot of them only listen to taylor and since they bought the whole one of the greatest lyricists of all time bit it makes them not clock the whole meta-pop of it all. max martin + shellback first started working with taylor on the red album to make her transition from country to mainstream pop so she could later drop 1989, it was very calculated. now they're back and i'd like to bring a song they wrote + produced for britney in 2000 on the "oops... i did it again!" album as exhibit a:

the general fanbase just now realizing taylor is a billionaire and very flawed is so funny to me like oh? you guys didn’t realize that? and then they’re unable to look at the album through a lense that is both critical and honest so you just get “the entire thing sucked and I hated it and there were no good attributes” like it is okay to admit there were some good things about it! if you fall into that kind of black and white thinking it only worsens your argument. It’s okay to both enjoy aspects of something and recognize it has many flaws, sitting in that discontent is good for you

I'm not a gaylor but literally NOTHING taylor and travis has done in the past year is romantic. It feels like a fever dream the way this relationship has been going and everyone seems to celebrate it. I'm leaning towards gaylorism now because this corner of the fandom is the only place shit makes sense these days. Btw, these past two years I've been so disappointed in Taylor's behavior and silence that I don't consider myself a Swiftie anymore. But I'm still lurking in the fandom to see how all this goes down
