Anotha One

Went home for the weekend and made another coaster for my friend Sidney and just a couple door stops out of scraps (shoulda made it less steep). 

Instead of cutting out the indents on the coaster, this time, I cut every section into rectangles and glued them together. It was much more efficient but glue got everywhere, so next time I should use a brush and stuff. 

Overall, I’m getting better and that’s what matters. 

Gotta keep doing good ‘til it turns great.

Move-in!

Finally got settled into my new dorm! The hanger looks great on my closet door. The coasters are in good use, too! Very excited and sorta bummed I can’t work on other projects ‘til I get back home.

Project 3 - Another Coaster

I got my inspiration from the many years I’ve been playing piano. It looks cool, too.

I actually started this project before the project #2, but it took so long cuz I accidentally broke it while tryna maneuver my jigsaw around the corners..whoops..but it came out better than I thought it “wood.” 

I would change the finishing to something food-safe, use a lighter stain, and get better tape that doesn’t let the stain touch the pine. I should’ve stained and coated before putting the pieces together.

Coasters

Second project was a success! I was originally gonna make them 4 wooden coasters with no design whatsoever, but I wanted an accent, so I tried black lacquer for the first time. I coated the entire thing with polyurethane, too.

Note to self: Lacquer is too glossy for my taste (even the satin ones). Also, shoulda used something food-safe but oh well.

I’m thinking about selling these but I might just use them for college.

Finishing off one of the last cake knives for a friend’s wedding. Next up: custom pyrography with their initials. These were super fun to make, but I think I’ll do something a little different for the next batch. Maybe a future project of my own? Might need a little help

My first project seems to be the middle of success and failure. 

I got to use plywood and pine, a miter saw, a sander, a planers, and, of course, chisels. I used a polyurethane and stain mix on the pine, which i regret. I need to really learn how to finish. The word DORM didn’t come out neat at all, so I tried to veer away from that for 422. The plywood kept chipping, and it was difficult to get the small crevices of the numbers. 

Overall, I learned a lot, and I hope my second project is a little closer to success.
