Lute is a very troubled and disturbed individual and I wish more people explored the horror of her character. My favorite aspect of her is that she's one of the worst people in the entire show and that when you really think in depth about everything surrounding her, it's actually pretty terrifying.

A sentient being made for the sole purpose to relentlessly slaughter people, she was trained to believe that she had no purpose if not to serve and saw just how drastic refusal could cost other angels, only to help in those endeavors towards rebellious exorcists. Tainting her own image as well as her view of exorcists, ignorant to how she could be any of them if she made one wrong move.

She derives sick, twisted joy from the endless slaughtering, then she's being driven to insanity, past her limit, because the only person holding her back from letting her true, rawest form of sadism come out died in her arms. Now she's haunted by a hallucination of this figure she practically worshipped in her life (who treated her terribly like she was an object and not a living being). How she sees herself as a force of destruction and that she has no purpose if it is not to kill or serve.

She's developed schizophrenia because of Adam's death and the endless ridicule she's been facing from other angels refusing to see the impact the war had on her. Something I've never seen anyone really acknowledge is that Lute killing people is not only traumatizing for Hell and Heaven, but also herself. As well as how it, obviously, plays a huge role in her spiral into depravity and that her schizophrenic hallucinations are feeding into these urges, making her worse.

Lute self harms on screen, which we never saw her do that in S1. Of course it comes from overwhelming grief, she's probably never felt anything so crushing in her entire life and this is the first time she's ever felt a sliver of what the citizens of Hell have been enduring, but I also believe it comes from the fact she can't harm others anymore, so she has to resort to harming herself for dopamine. Which I don't really see people talking about either, and a lot of these aspects people never mention feel like REALLY huge deals. To me.

Lute is the living embodiment of the horror of Heaven that they keep hidden away from the public.
