PAST:
From humble beginnings Theodore Robshaw made his way into this world as the firstborn in the Robshaw family. A title that he never took seriously, although a wonderful brother he often left the responsibilities to Ruby even in adulthood when their parents needed them, he left it to her.
Throughout his childhood, Theodore was a bit different from the other boys. Instead of playing with G.I. Joes and other toys aimed towards young males. Theodore was more interested in makeup, dressing up and Barbies. Thankfully, he had a supportive family that never tried to change his interests nor discourage him in any manner.
As Theodore approached high school, he excelled in mathematics and began running a betting scheme with his fellow classmates that nearly got him expelled. Even then, he did not have a huge amount of respect towards the law. Throughout school, he was a social butterfly although he tended to hangout with the more popular kids in school and played baseball on the high school team.
College came and it was simple, Theodore wanted a way to make money and live a lavish lifestyle that he knew he was born to live. Working a side hustle with a few people in town as someone who knew how to clean the books, he made his way through college. After receiving his degree, he was making a fairly decent amount of money and never really turned back. Several times, he had been called into questioning with the police, but there was never any hard evidence to keep him.
PRESENT:
Currently, he works for several unsavory people throughout town cleaning their books and maintaining their records. When people want money laundered, they come to him. Theodore is close to both his sisters and watches over them.
Theodore arrived with a folder tucked beneath one arm and nervous about the meeting. For someone who regularly stepped onto a stage in six-inch heels and performed in front of packed crowds, sitting down across from Sada to discuss funding somehow felt more intimidating. He set the folder on her desk and smoothed a hand over the cover before offering her a sheepish smile. “So, you already know why we’re here today.”
He slid the folder toward her, excitement beginning to creep into his voice despite himself. "For the final show of the season, I want to do something we've never done before. Not just another drag performance, but a full on production. The Rocky Horror Picture Show. Actors, dancers, costumes, practical props, a real set, audience participation kits, the whole thing." Theodore leaned forward slightly, unable to hide his enthusiasm now. "I've put together a rough budget, production schedule, staffing needs, and projected ticket sales. It's ambitious, I know that. But if we're going to end the season, I want people talking about it for years afterward."
They would have lost the reservation, but Jack would wait for Teddy as long has he would need. Every time. So long as it meant they were together. He had to remind himself not yet as he moved past to head inside, pressing a quick kiss to his boyfriend's lips. "Well, you already look amazing," he complimented, giving his own reflection another quick once-over as he passed by a mirror.
A smirk showed itself when called him handsome. His stomach did another flip. Or two. Or three. And he felt like he was going to vomit from the nerves of wanting the evening to keep going as well as it seemed. "I had to spruce myself up to look as good as you do," he added, glancing over at Teddy from the side of his eye.
He left his reflection to pull Teddy in for a much more lingering kiss. Instead of the expected response of his nerves settling, having him in his arms, they merely electrified. "Better go and finish up because time is ticking and I don't know how long I'll be able to control myself if you're gonna end up even better looking than you are now," he told him playfully once their lips parted. "And the reservations are at six," he added with a gentle laugh, silently mis-dooming himself to fuck this up as usual as his nerves continued to rise.
Teddy's smile softened the moment Jack kissed him, the familiar warmth of it settling some of the nervous energy he'd been carrying around all afternoon. "Careful," he teased, one hand coming to rest briefly against Jack's chest. "If you keep saying things like that, I'm going to spend another several hours getting ready just to be more impressive.”
The lingering kiss left him grinning despite himself, and he rolled his eyes affectionately when Jack reminded him about the reservation. "Listen, I am dressed, my shoes are on, and I only need to grab my purse. By Teddy Robshaw standards, that's practically standing in the car already." His laughter came easier now as he reached up to straighten Jack's collar unnecessarily, just looking for an excuse to touch him again. "And for the record, you're making it very difficult to leave this apartment. You show up looking like this and then expect me to act normal when I’m so," He chewed at the bottom of his lips doing his best to control himself.
He leaned in and stole one more quick kiss before finally taking a reluctant step backward toward the bedroom. "Five minutes," he promised, holding up a hand as if swearing an oath. "Actual five minutes. Not my usual five minutes." His grin widened. "Sit. Relax. Try not to panic about the reservation. I'll be back before you can dramatically check your watch again."
"Ach," he waved off the sorry, dropping his arm heavily in his lap. "Save your sorries for another day," he added, his hand now finding its way lazily to Teddy's chest and patting it as gently as he could muster. "You're here now," he added, his smile widening again as he looked up at his boyfriend with drunken stars in his eyes. Though if he had been sober, his disappointment would have come through his assurances.
"You know," he said through a drunk sigh, laying his head in Theodore's lap. "If you had, we might not have made it through very much of that party," he said with a smirk, his eyes starting to close from their heaviness as his hand found its way to Teddy's face. He shifted to face his torso, his arm falling to hug around his waist as Jack almost snuggled against his boyfriend. "You are just sooooo fucking hot tonight," he complimented with a little squeeze and a kiss to his stomach, his voice muffled against his dress.

"You're the best..." thing that's happened to me in a long time "....why would I not be obsessed?" he asked, slurring his way through the ess's, giving Theodore a wide, proud smile. He loved this man. So, so much. Jack couldn't help but let it spill free all the things he loved about him s he was led through his place and into the bedroom. "Yes ma'am," he agreed easily, heavily lifting his arms. He almost fell to the side once his jacket was removed, giggling as he caught himself with Teddy's arm. He tried his best to help undress himself along with him, but kept getting distracted by just how handsome he was and how much he wanted to kiss those lips.
He dropped back onto the bed and half slid, half crawled under the covers. "Fine," he groaned. "But I at least want a kiss goodnight," he said with a point his way as he headed toward the bathroom, a smile still plastered to his face even though he gave in to the order to behave - though he unapologetically watched Teddy the entire way to the bathroom.
As soon as the water turned on, he shifted to sit up in bed and leaned over to grab the remote from Teddy's night stand. He switched on the television with a sigh, his arm dropping to his lap heavily as he channel surfed until landing on one of his favorite, god awful shows. Thank God for reruns.
Teddy paused in the doorway of the bathroom, leaning against the frame for a second as he watched Jack settle into the bed like he’d already decided he wasn’t moving again for the rest of the night. The glow from the TV caught on his face, making him look softer somehow, less chaotic than he had been earlier. Teddy shook his head with a quiet, amused exhale. “You’re lucky you’re cute when you’re like this,” he murmured, voice warm with lingering affection.
“I’m gonna shower,” he said, softer now, though his eyes were still playful. “And if you try to follow me in there, I swear I’ll just put you in the tub and turn the water cold.” A pause, lips twitching.
He straightened slowly, dragging a hand through his hair as he turned toward the bathroom, but not before glancing back once more with that look that always seemed to undo him a little. “Be good,” he added, pointing lightly in Jack’s direction. The shower clicked on moments later, steam beginning to fill the bathroom as Teddy took his time, letting the hot water wash the night off of him, his thoughts still on the man waiting in his bed causing his hand to travel down between his legs to stroke himself at the thought of Jack inside him.
When he finally came back out, hair damp and shirt loosely thrown back on, the room was dim except for the flickering TV light. Jack was still there, exactly where he had left him. Teddy exhaled softly at the sight, something fond and resigned in it as he crossed the room. “Of course you didn’t move,” he said quietly, sliding under the covers beside him and immediately shifting closer without hesitation wanting to hold his boyfriend.
"Oh Teddles." Aggie gave a little sigh at the state of him, stepping into his room and closing the door behind her. For most of their lives it had been Aggie sneaking into his room for comforting, but now here she was in the same space but now it was her turn to repay a lifetime of favours. "I know." Speaking softly, she set everything down on his side table and then lead her brother back toward his bed, her hand reassuringly tight in his own.
"I know it feels like the end of the world." Boy did she know, her life for a while being taken over by the attention of that infernal radio host and her need to magnify everything the way she did. "It's not, though. Jack really cares about you, I saw that at that disaster dinner. You just have to be honest and it'll all pass in time and maybe you'll be stronger for it, you know?" Leaning over she gathered her brother in as tight a hug as she could manage.
Teddy let out a shaky breath the second Aggie stepped into the room, like his body had been holding it in just waiting for someone to see him fall apart. He didn’t argue when she guided him back toward the bed, he just followed, slower than usual, his grip tightening slightly around her hand as if it was the only thing keeping him grounded. When she spoke, his eyes dropped to the floor, jaw working like he was trying to swallow everything he didn’t have words for yet.
“I want to believe you,” he admitted quietly, voice unsteady, “I really do.” He leaned into her hug after a moment, shoulders shaking faintly as he finally let himself rest his head against her. “But it feels like I already broke something that can’t be fixed.” A pause, breath catching again. “And I don’t know how to look at him and pretend I didn’t.”
Jack was another beer and half a joint in, swapping full disclosures with Hattie when the doorbell rang out. And the entire world slowed to a stop around him. The silence grew so thick he could hear his own heart pounding in his ears. Even inebriated, his blood ran cold with fear over what was to come on the other side of the night with his guest's arrival, desperately wanting it to be good, but expecting the inevitable letdown because history always repeated itself.
He pushed himself from the couch and stumbled a bit to the doo, backing up a moment to try his best to check his reflection in the entryway mirror. God did he look horrible. Tear stained cheeks and unkempt hair, reeking of liquor and weed. Joaquin was an absolute mess. Thankfully he was too drunk to care, otherwise, he would have never answered the door.
A quiet scoff of disbelief fell from him before he could stop it when he saw it was indeed Theodore on the other side. His chest tightened and for a moment he swore his heart had stopped beating. "You're really here," he muttered, still in shock he'd actually come. "I..."He shook his head gently, swallowing thickly, his mouth for once having trouble keeping up. No one ever came for Jack. "Come in," he managed simply, finally stepping aside to let Teddy past.
Teddy hesitated for only a second when the door opened wider, like his body was still trying to decide whether he deserved to step inside at all. Jack’s voice, his shock, the disbelief, only made the knot in his throat tighten harder. He swallowed, blinking quickly as if that might steady him, but it didn’t do much. “Yeah,” he managed softly, voice rough around the edges from everything he hadn’t been able to stop crying about in the car. “I’m here.”
He stepped past the threshold slowly, almost carefully, like he was afraid the moment might break if he moved too fast. The sight of Jack looking just as wrecked didn’t help, if anything, it made Teddy’s chest ache worse. He turned slightly once he was inside, hands fidgeting together in front of him as he tried to find the right words and failed. “I–I don’t know where to start Jack,” he admitted. “I love you, I never meant to hurt you.”
Theodore had locked himself in his childhood bedroom nearly an hour ago. Not that the lock would stop anyone in this house, Aggie had probably known how to bypass it since she was twelve, but it made him feel less exposed. He sat on the bed against the wall just curled up. The room looked smaller than he remembered. The baseball trophies on the shelf. Photographs from high school. His phone lay face down across the room after being launched there in a fit of frustration. Every buzz felt like another person wanting answers about the photograph from the carnival. About Knox. About the kiss. And he had no real explanation.
A knock sounded at the door, Theodore knew it was Agnes. The two were texting before the phone ended up in the middle of the floor. Wiping the tears from his eyes, he got out of the bed and tried straightening out the wrinkles in his clothes before he opened the door. For a moment he just looked at it before lowering his head. "Jack saw the photo," he admitted quietly, the words finally escaping him. “I don’t know how to come back from this.”
Jack was nervous as hell to say the least. His hands were clammy. His heart pounded. He checked his reflection in the bathroom mirror, the bedroom mirror, the rearview mirror, the reflection in this car window. He wanted to be presentable, handsome, put together, confident, perfect. But he was just nervous, nervous, NERVOUS.
"Alright Jacky boy. You're gonna go and get Teddy. You're gonna take him out. Fancy feast it at Amor. Then...you're just gonna....tell him that...you love him," he coached himself shakily as he drove over to Theodore's. "Ergh God. I'm gonna fucking choke," he groaned, dropping his head to the steering wheel, bouncing it against his hands a few times until a honk signaled the light had turned green. "Fuck you asshole. It just turned," he grumbled at the impatience of the person behind him. "Everything's gonna be fine," he assured himself as he finished the drive and pulled up to Teddy's place.
He took a deep breath and made his way to the front door and knocked. "It's four o'clock," he said teasingly, looking at his watch when the door was answered. "Early enough to light a fire under you to get ready on time?" he added just as playfully, smiling wide, bringing his attention to Teddy.
The second Teddy opened the door, a sheepish smile pulled at the corner of his mouth. He already knew exactly why Jack was looking at his watch. The entire reason Teddy had insisted he come over at four for a six o'clock reservation was because Teddy himself had a well-earned reputation for running late. Years of getting distracted, changing outfits three times, and somehow losing track of time had taught him that the only way he ever arrived somewhere on schedule was by lying to himself about when he needed to be ready.
"See?" he said with a small laugh, gesturing toward Jack as if proving a point. "This is why I told you four. If I'd told myself I had until five-thirty, we'd both still be standing here at six." There was amusement in his voice, but also plenty of affection as he looked him over. Jack had clearly put effort into tonight, and it made something the butterflies in his stomach flutter.
Stepping aside to let him in, Teddy ran a hand through his hair and shook his head. "For the record, I'm actually almost ready. Which means my plan worked." His smile widened slightly as his gaze lingered on Jack for a moment longer. "And you look ridiculously handsome, so now I'm glad I gave myself the extra time." He commented, wiggling his brows.
Teddy had spent most of the drive gripping the steering wheel hard enough to make his knuckles ache, his eyes still raw from all of the crying. Every red light gave him another chance to think, and every thought somehow circled back to the same thing, the photograph and the disappointment he had heard in Jack's voice. By the time he finally pulled into Jack's driveway, exhaustion had settled over him like a heavy blanket, leaving him emotionally wrung out and running on little more than desperation and hope.
For a moment, Teddy remained seated behind the wheel, staring at the house through blurred vision before forcing himself to get out. The cool air hit his face, carrying away none of the ache sitting in his chest. He looked terrible, eyes swollen, cheeks flushed, not the usual pristine Teddy that everyone gets to see. As he made his way toward the door, his heart hammered so hard it made him feel sick. He managed to shake the foundation of their relationship and it gnawed at him. He paused briefly at the door, swallowing the lump in his throat before ringing the doorbell hoping that Hattie was sent away.
You’re looking at a lot of yellow. I thought I’d get dressed up nice and bright. The only problem is, I stepped out of my house and immediately got attacked by hummingbirds.
