Coming soon to bandcamp: Charred (soundtrack). Stay tuned!
Charred at NextFest A provocative and playful mix of image, movement, storytelling, and improvisation. Using original projected photographs of neighbourhoods and natural environments affected by the Fort McMurray wildfires of 2016 this multimedia, dance-theatre performance investigates the questions: How did the fire change the land? And whose story is that to tell? Developed December 2016 in Fort McMurray and January 2017 in Edmonton with the generous support of the Edmonton Arts Council. Created by Ben Gorodetsky and Mat Simpson Stage Managed by Julie Ferguson and Kiidra Duhault With support from collaborators: Gerry Morita, Heather Inglis, Matt Schuurman, Erin Birkenbergs, Caitlin Richards, Jenna Turner
The Olm and Ocra together on one stage. What a great way to send off the Stanley Milner before it closed for renovations.
Photos from The Olm/Ocra gig at Stanley Milner Library send off party. Thanks for letting us close the event and draw on the walls and floors. Jenna created a logo for The Olm which will forever be a part of the old Stanley Milner.
Mark Your Mark On Milner
After 50 great years in our downtown library, the Stanley A. Milner Library will close on December 31, 2016 to undergo a major revitalization. But first, you’re invited to make your mark on Milner:
What: Graffiti Open House. Yes, you read right. You get to draw on the walls.
Where: Stanley A. Milner Library - main floor
When: Saturday, December 17, 2016 from 10:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m.
The former main library space will be an empty canvas ready for your favourite book, quote, author or whatever else you’re inspired to share with the world.
Not only will you get to vandalize the library, programs and activities for the whole family will happen throughout the day. Graffiti supplies will be provided.
ACTIVITIES
In addition to the main event (vandalizing), a variety of family friendly activities be hosted throughout the day including a pop-up makerspace, children's programing, friendly dodgeball, video and print Milner Memories stations, a colouring wall and more! We'll also be entertained by the following Capital City Records musicians:

Dirt Buffet Cabaret - September 15
The start of MZD's 2016-17 season "Making Contact" brings with it the return of the popular Dirt Buffet Cabaret series - a brand new edition of Edmonton's monthly experimental variety show. Step inside our performance laboratory with: Nasra Adem is the Youth Poet Laureate of Edmonton, an actor and mango enthusiast. She will be presenting an exploration of Joy within the Black/feminized body or; A prayer for her sisters. Experimental Violin/Viola duo, The Olm, is hosting a seance, allowing voices to emerge from their wailing strings and automatic drawings of strange faces to appear as projections. Nefarious Gorehound is a dedicated performer of burlesque, zombie and Krampus walks, drag shows and any event that will give him the space to create his unique take on horror. For his Dirt Buffet Cabaret return Nefarious will get gory and definitively prevent you from sleeping. Paul Lopushinsky is a podcaster, blogger, product manager, and avid water drinker. Paul will engage the audience at Spazio Performativo with an intense and personal podcast experience. Maria Burkinshaw is a performance artist, musician, and theatre technician. She will be debuting a new piece using projections, fog, fleeting images, and temporary space. Poet Ben Freeland and dancer Jodie Vandekerkhove will be tantalizing the Dirt Buffet audience with a brand new collaboration of words and movement. The Dirt Buffet Cabaret is on September 15, 2016 at 9pm. Tickets are $10, but no one will be refused for lack of funds.
