Execution | Muse & Xena
Russia, in the 1800s
“What is your power?” the man growls in Russian. He presses the heel of his boot against Muse’s chin.
The ancient immortal eyes the man with contempt, as much contempt the drugs in his system would allow. Whatever they poisoned him with, it made it hard to concentrate, sluggish and insomniatic.
Which means he couldn’t use his power to escape the ropes and chains binding him to this cramped, underground room. From the smell, he’s pretty sure this was used as a temporary grave. Filth scratches and digs into his cheek.
Muse attempts to turn his head away but the boot viciously kicks his chin. His head cracks against the wall. His vision swims with red.
The hunter grabs Muse by his hair and wrenches him up. Sharp pain turns the air into smoke. “How about this question? Where are your friends?”
“Did you waste all your resources on me?” he wheezes out. If they found him, they could have found the others staying in Russia. Though they must have fled the country once Muse didn’t return after a few days. “Pity, I’m not the greatest catch in the sea.”
No immortal wants to deal with the hunters. Some were vicious as the Meracus, kill first and then ask later.
The knife came out of nowhere and made its new home in Muse’s shoulder. He groans, swallowing it so the hunter won’t get satisfaction. His warrior training has limits, he can feel himself running out of energy, from two weeks in their hands.

Gimme A Job || Muse & Callie
Archon was busy at school and she knew Camel was also probably busy with finals. So, she was alone. Hosea was off somewhere, probably with Vincent, and the girl had no want to hang out with her parents today.
A bored Callie was no good for anyone. So, she’d taken it upon herself to wander around town and visit her uncle Muse to see how he was doing and if he had anything fun around his shop for her to play with.
The redhead pushed her way into the parlor, glancing around. “Uncle Muuuuusseeee?” she called.
“Hey Callie,” Tim greets. “How ya doin’?” Most of the artists here knew about Muse’s extended family. When they were young, they always brought amusement to the parlor.
He gestures to the back. “He’s drowning in paperwork. All business and math.”
“Apparently, I’m a hot commodity. It appears I have to win the right to be free.”

On The Job Training || Sienna & Muse [Flashback]
“Well that won’t be a problem. First thing I learned in boot camp was to assume all your superiors are pissed off.” And unlike some other people she went to training with, Sienna actually knew when enough was enough and keep her mouth shut.
“We talking Napoleon short or Lord Farquaad short?” Sienna smiled, though she was sensing some of what Archer was saying wasn’t truthful.
“Really? A man who adores cats names his tattoo parlor Nocats?”
Archer considers the question. “Lord Farquaad.” he decides. “Some genetic thing, I believe. Or he didn’t eat his vegetables.”
“He lost a bet.” he says solemnly. “Good eye though, very few people noticed that Nocats wasn’t a fancy word.”
Small Favors || Nathan & Muse (Flashback)
Cosmas shook his head, looking down at his healing forearm, “no.”
Where he lived, tattoos were a mark of ownership, of punishment, and humiliation. If he had the choice, Cosmas would do away with the mark altogether. As it was, he was trading one permanent brand with another.
“If tattoos are not a shame,” he began, raising his gaze to Muse, “what do they mean for you?”
He considers the words. “They’re meant to tell a story.” he continues mixing the paste. He vividly remembers his master telling him the same thing, when he was twelve. “Whether it’s a good story or a bad one.”
Small Favors || Nathan & Muse (Flashback)
Cosmas nodded, and though it was only barely nightfall he decided to turn in.
“Good night, then,” and he went into the third room.
There was a cot already there. Cosmas assumed that even though Muse said no one was interested in this place, he still got some visitors. Cosmas wouldn’t have minded sleeping on the floor, he was used to it, but he was glad for it. Maybe now he’d have a better night’s sleep.
He laid on the bed, hand resting on his dagger, and closed his eyes. He had underestimated his exhaustion, for he slept quickly. It didn’t last for very long.
In the middle of the night, Cosmas woke up in a cold sweat, his dagger lifted to attack any foe before he noticed he was alone, just shadows. Cosmas looked down at his wound, noticed it felt a lot better than before. He’d gotten some sleep, but try as he might, Cosmas couldn’t go back.
TIMESKIP
Muse prepares the paste. Over the past few days, Cosmas had stayed with him while the injury healed enough to withstand even more marking. Cosmas didn’t talk much, which was fine with him. If he wanted to mention something, he would have.
“Do you have any idea for another tattoo?” he asks.
On The Job Training || Sienna & Muse [Flashback]
‘Forgets’, Archer had said, but Sienna was getting the distinct impression she was being messed with as some sort of initiation. Mess with the new employee and what not. She was confident she could take it.
“I’ve got experience handling angry people, no sweat.” ‘Handling’ here had the meaning of subduing for the most part, something Sienna could no longer do but again, she was confident in her ability to perform this job well.
“Ha!” Sienna laughed, “That’s priceless. I like him already. Provided now you’re not messing with me. I also heard he’s kinda scary intimidating. What do you think of him?”
“He is scary intimidating.” Archer says. “You can never tell whether he’s in a foul mood or not.” Which was true, the boss had a strong poker face. “Also, don’t ever talk to him about his short height.” he shakes his head. “You’ll easily end up cleaning the brushes that way.”
“Adores cats and doesn’t like dogs. Other than that he’s pretty chill if you ever see him.”
Oh, forgot about your no touching thing.
On The Job Training || Sienna & Muse [Flashback]
“…Great.” Sienna looked at her wristwatch to double check the time. Maybe she had misheard Taiki. This was not the impression she wanted to make on her first day on the job. Not that coming in early was bad but being unable to follow directions, that was bad.
“Nice to meet you, Archer,” she replied and shook his hand strong and firm, looking him in the eye. At least that was a habit she didn’t have to quit.
“I wasn’t sure if this place took walk-ins. Nice. I’ve heard it’s obscenely popular and appointments are booked half a year in advance, especially for the owner-artist.”
Her voice dropped in volume as she leaned in, gossip mode activated.
“Is it true that the boss spent two years with an Amazonian tribe and no outside contact just to hone his skill? It could be the others twisting my arm like when they tried to tell me he has to sing and dance to the Spice Girls to psych himself up before a shift. That’s a joke. Right?”
“Don’t worry, Taiki always does this. He forgets to mention you and whoever’s the walk in come in early.”
Archer laughs slightly. “A slight exaggeration. Only the head honcho gets the half year advances. Good luck with those angry because they’re not on the list.”
He smirks. “He listens to Kesha, actually.”
On The Job Training || Sienna & Muse [Flashback]
One of the greatest obstacles a soldier has about adjusting to civilian life is finding employment. For all of the success stories regarding the great programs out there that helped veterans obtain jobs and careers, there were just as many failures. Sienna wasn’t a veteran, she was in the reserves. But this did mean that apart from the weekend a month in which she had to come in to a reserve base, Sienna led a full civilian life.
It was a tough job market and despite the fact Sienna had originally joined the Marines to help pay for school, she had limited secondary education. Her plans changed after her last mission on active duty. Going to school would have been too much to handle at the same time as Zeke’s regime. He could be a cruel bastard.
She decided to apply for the position of front desk receptionist at a tattoo parlor on a whim. Sienna had a tattoo with her squad under the 2nd battalion 2nd marines, and another honoring a fallen member of her squad when an op she was running went bad. They were easy enough to cover up for an office job but she didn’t want to. Sienna had also worked in customer service when she was still a teenager as a sales associate with Claire’s.
Sienna might have applied on a whim but the moment she got an interview she did her research. She even got to meet a few of the tattoo artists that same day, and they started filling her in on how it was like to work there when she started asking questions. Her diligence ended up paying off because she got a phone call after a few days stating she got the job after. She was excited and a little nervous.
Sienna arrived at Nocats early like she was instructed. She would start her training with Taiki. The parlor wasn’t opened yet, as evidenced by the sign on the door reading ‘CLOSED’. The door was open, however, so Sienna walked right in.
An artist she hadn’t yet met was at the front desk. Sienna assumed he was setting up to start the shift. A job responsibility that would soon become hers.
“Hello, I’m Corpo-,” ah whoops old habits, “-I’m Sienna Nevarrez, the new hire,” she walked up to him and held out her hand.
“Taiki said to come in early today for my training. Is he in?”
Archer snorts, amused. “Taiki won’t be here for about hour or so. Most of the people here don’t come until their first appointment. Unfortunately for me, I’m the walk-in artist for this shift.”
He holds out his hand. “I’m Archer. Nice to meet you.”
