I was recently in a horrible relationship which I couldn't leave and was constantly disrespected, and honestly, it made me understand Cersei more. To be stuck in an absolutely loveless marriage is one thing, but imagine a marriage with a man you tried to love but he whispers his dead fiancé's name on your wedding night, grapes you and then continues to have public affairs throughout the marriage and fathers numerous bastards that might one day threaten your own children's claim to the throne. To live through each and every disrespect and heartbreak at such a young age while the entire realm mocks and laughs at you behind your back. To be completely alone in your suffering except for the twin brother you have an incestuous relationship with, who's fucked up beyond measure in his own ways.

I remember Robert once stating that Cersei is cold to him in a regretful tone. So typical of a man to blame his wife's lack of forgiveness for ruining their marriage when his actions have long crossed the boundaries of forgiveness.

"Evil" women like Cersei are not born, they are built. She was a typical mean girl at best during her teens, with a side of Tywin's cynicism perhaps. She dreamt of marrying Rhaegar and her only true companion was Jaime. Then, the life she has always imagined, the dreams her father had planted in her head, they are all stolen. Robert's Rebellion happens and she's pushed into this marriage with a man she does not know, but she's willing to try. The rest is history.

People love to hate on Sansa because of her innocence and femininity, but every girl raised in a patriarchal society has at least once been in her place. At Sansa's age, Cersei too was dreaming of a prince and a place beneath him on the throne.

If all that happened to Cersei had happened to me, I would've tortured Robert with my own two hands had I been given the means. She was too generous. Men like him deserve much worse.
