Guys, if you could spare some cash or time to share this, I’d greatly appreciate it.
My dad is a Type 1 insulin-dependent diabetic. This means his body no longer produces the insulin sufficient for him to regulate his blood sugar levels. If they aren’t monitored closely by him, this can put him into a coma – or even lead to death. If untreated, this type of diabetes can lead to severe weight loss, and it can increase your chance of heart complications, sight loss, nerve damage, kidney disease, and some mobility issues.
At present, there is no known cure for the disease. Once someone has Type 1 diabetes, they have it for life. This means you have to monitor your sugar glucose for the rest of your life – something your body would do in normal homeostasis if the pancreas was able to produce insulin such as in a healthy body.
The exact cause of Type 1 diabetes is also mainly unknown. It often sets in before the age of 40, often in childhood, and can make life quite stressful for sufferers.
This is why it is so important to research into the condition – to improve the support diabetics receive, and the treatment available, and working out the cause to lower the number of people suffering from it.
So please, if you could just reblog this post to signal boost the cause, it’d be great. My dad and family are currently hoping to raise £500 for the race he is doing, so we still have a little way to go.
Thank you.
