LGBT activists have been vocal about intersex issues for several decades, because establishing the legal right to bodily autonomy for intersex persons is basically inseparable from establishing the right of trans persons to that same legal autonomy over their own bodies. many intersex persons prefer not to be grouped together with LGBT causes; however, the vast majority of LGBT activists would agree that performing "corrective" surgery on intersex infants - to force them to adhere to a largely fictional gender binary - is pretty fucking evil.
THIS is why I talk about how TERF/gender essentialist ideology hurts us
Our bodies are NOT a crime
Our bodies are NOT a mistake
WE should get to have control over what we call ourselves and what, if any, gender affirming treatments we receive
This is medicalized abuse
It hurts us
It dehumanizes us
It is wrong
me: *breaks down crying in the privacy of my own home*
my brain: you’re faking your emotions for attention. you’re just doing this because you think it makes for a cool personal narrative
opinions on jet atla? i think he had some really big clown moments but is ultimately overhated by fans also they had to kill him off cause he wouldve started killing fire nation soldiers if he lived and aang wouldve had an aneurism (no shade to aang hes the only pacifist character i love plus hakoda definitely took ozai out back and shot him at some point)
when i think about jets character in retrospect, im like...what was the point? like he was introduced specifically to be villainized. and then killed off. ideologically he made points but the writers dont let you dwell on that bc they adamantly DRIVE home the fact that hes #BAD and everything he stands for is wrong.
no other atla character just died. not ONE. yet they killed off jet? why?
jet being in the wrong is the whole point. the way they show you that doll in the water to show you just how /evil/ he is in that first episode. its the demonization of violent resistance. the demonization of oppressed people not being passive victims. the handling of jets character is one of the instances where the creators of atla being liberal white americans shows through so apparently.
zuko got more sympathy than jet by the narrative even BEFORE his redemption. that scene where jet calls out zuko in the tea shop and jet is portrayed as wrong? we literally root for zuko! iroh is an entire war criminal starting a business in the country he personally destroyed with the prince of the fire nation and yet WE root for jet to lose! bc the narrative told us jet is #BAD!
also i feel like jet had some of his best moments with zuko in book 2 and i wish they gave him a chance to grow like they gave zuko a chance instead of just killing him off. literally all jet needed to do was calm down lmao. thats it.
the way bumi got his little moment in the end. jet, smellerbee and longshot shouldve had something like that too. they were all just kids trying to find a meaning to their suffering.
and its corny as hell that most everyone else was worthy of redemption including the war criminal but jet wasnt. its corny as hell that they refused to kill ozai (which is fine) but then jet was conveniently killed off screen bc they just didnt wanna deal with him anymore after he served his purpose
werewolves stink like wet dog and shed all over your furniture and are probably really really needy around a full moon and wake u up all the time with questions about morality but on the other hand vampires are like “øh hëllö thêrę vøuld yoü lïke to help me örganise mai evening vear closët for the third time this veëk :)” so really you cant win
fantasy that deals with dynamics of oppression in their world almost always fucking sucks because the writers never have any idea how oppression and persecution function, so it's like, oh these poor people are being forced into glorified prison schools and law enforcement treats them with brutality and common people are distrustful and prejudicial towards them HOWEVER these people can also randomly turn into murder monsters who shoot fire in all directions
"my name is David Fantasywriter and I think oppressed people are oppressed for a perfectly justifiable reason such as Turning Into Demons For Fun"
Even when it isn’t a situation of “turning into murder monsters for fun,” you end up in a really weird fucky relationship with “masquerade” settings, too.
In a setting where people are in hiding for being magic/vampires/etc. and the reason is because nonmagical humans kept killing them off en masse, the nonmagical humans are oppressors.
Stop treating them as weak and pathetic and in need of protection instead of genocidal. And stop coding your oppressed groups with Nazi villains for not accepting this state of affairs, or being deeply suspicious of any people who are of nonmagical human backgrounds that try to join them. And stop making your “good” characters okay with the state of affairs that forces them into hiding or else they’ll be murdered.
having a trans character be happy and self loving and loved is more revolutionary than educating cis audiences through the humiliation, sadness of and acts of violence against a trans character and that’s all i’m saying
the fact that "labels should be useful" is a controversial statement really shows how badly the liberal LGBT movement fucked up
we don't want change, we're not political, we just want to feel valid

The studio execs don’t cut out gay moments to market to China, they do it because the execs are homophobic. You guys are just racist enough to believe that somehow Asians are responsible for Destroying Western Cinema rather than the more obvious reason that studio execs hate gay people
Disney didn’t remove Love Simon from Disney+ to market overseas. Disney+ is exclusive to America. Disney removed Love Simon because they’re homophobic. I cannot believe I have to tell you people that homophobia is an executive decision and not one based on Asians.

draw women in post-apocalyptic world settings with armpit hair, leg hair, bushy brows and pubic hair ya cowards,, draw brown women/women with dark thick hair with arm hair and happy trails and sideburns and mustaches i’m sick of seeing silky smooth soapy clean make up wearing post apocalyptic dolled up women next to stinky sweaty crusty men with dirty nails and sweaty clothes and sweaty greasy hair and 3m long ugly beards
or, if you must depict women maintaining that shit, at least be interesting about it. I can actually buy someone shaving/putting on makeup if that’s their way of coping, something they do to tether themselves to the past or an ellusive feeling of normalcy. So show me the EFFORT put in, yeah? Show that woman risking a zombie horde because she spotted a fucking tube of scarlet lipstick and christ she hasn’t seen that color in five years but it’s what she wore on her first date with her now-dead husband. Show me the girl who is quietly starting to fucking lose it but covers it up with fanatical commitment to her appearance because if she gets these eyebrows right, maybe no one will notice how she stares at things that aren’t there. I find it completely plausible that some women would go to incredible lengths to maintaining their appearance, because they’ve been socialized all their lives to caring about it, because it’s a part of their identity. So show me how that part gets negotiated with once the world has gone to hell.
Catch me in your local bunker doing a smoky eye with the ashes of my former life.
Straight razors and elaborate makeup drawn in ashes mixed with motor oil.
People that shave their underarms completely and people that shave neat precise lines into them to make it clear that I can, I just don’t.
Raiders may kill you and zombies may kill you but background radiation will kill everybody eventually, what’s a little more toxicity compared to a Geiger counter that will never shut up? Looting the art supply store and painting designs onto each other in oils, the cadmiums and phthalos no longer forbidden against skin, the rich bright saturated colors a second long-term death option.
Men, meanwhile, that grow beards and oil them, wash them, shape and brade them intricately, shave tiger stripes or leopard spots or mandalas or band logos into the hair on their chests and arms and backs, or shave themselves hairless to display that they have time and resources and very, very sharp things.
(When you are struggling to survive, when you are burdened with labor, putting effort into your appearance is a status symbol. It says you are successful enough to have spare time, spare energy, spare resources. It might say you would make a good partner, mate, friend, ally; it might say you are formidable to fight. It might say you have resources that can be appropriated by your killer, and this might be a baited trap.)
tbh this is all a part of a larger issue that, imo, apocalyptic narratives almost always get wrong, and that’s failing to represent humanity’s unceasing drive to create art and beauty and find joy just about everywhere. the biggest and worst wars in our actual history have inspired some of the most touching art ever, and i don’t mean art that people created after seeing the horrors from afar; I mean the art that was made right there, in the trenches and the prisons and in the midst of mortal danger. when shit hits the fan, we don’t stop being creative; we create more.
so, when a group of apocalypse survivers is sitting around a camping fire in the evening, we don’t morosely stare into the flames - we sing, maybe a rendition of Paint it Black, maybe something new. dwellings made out of trash aren’t grey and sad; they get decorated with just about everything we can find - colourful pieces of trash, old glass, twisted tree branches. bards become a thing again pretty quick - people with great memories who’ve been great readers back in the day, and now they tell us stories that no longer exist on paper, and since it gets tedious to repeat the same old Ana Karenina every day, they make it their own, and now, Ana gets her happy ending. anyone lugging a guitar or a violin or some sort of a musical instrument around deserves massive respect, and we love them all, regardless of whether they can actually play well or not. slam poetry is brought to a whole new level and now even judgy idiots like me love it. most makeup may be gone, and jewelry was all sold in the early days of the catastrophe for food and necessities - but we’ve remembered that makeup is nothing but pigment with some grease and that art supply stores still stand there, yes, and that jewelry is just twisted pieces of metal and colourful bits on strings.
When I was a CO at a jail, female inmates took crayons and colored pencils (usually available on request) to make improvised makeup. Male inmates stole hairnets from the kitchen and trained their hair. Inmates knew how to improvise tattoo needles and ink and would tattoo each other. They’d mix and match ingredients available from the commissary to make meals that almost resembled real food. And they’d brew hooch with basic ingredients. And do all sorts of artistic stuff. That’s inside of an area that’s supposed to be tightly controlled. Now imagine you have the rubble of an entire civilization and all the time in the world. People will get creative and continue to create, even when, by all rights, the means to create ought to be gone.
broccoli is tasty and looks like tiny trees you cowards
