12/9/12 @ mile high station

i  was scared at first that it was gonna be a small turn out, but when i showed up it was sold out and packed with bacon lovers. beer vendors occupied the majority of the upstairs and  the rest crammed into a midsized bar on the main floor like sardines. chefs from a lot of the great local restaurants were there making some wonderful dishes. i wish i would of gotten more shots but was distracted by all the delicious food around me. it was a wonderful event and highly suggest not missing it next year.

don't worry i didn't stop doing portraits

my best friend's daughter is about to turn one and they wanted to do a photoshoot of the three of them. they'll be using it as a holiday card and invitation to her first birthday. was super excited to do these photos and very pleased how they came out.

we scheduled a early saturday morning shoot to try to grab some of that good morning light. it was looking good but then started to become a bit overcast on my way downtown. the overcast wasn't too bad, the light wasn't too flat but more defused like a shoot thru umbrella. also, i brought my off camera flash just in case.

like with all shoots i get a lil nervous for the first few seconds but i get my groove going in the first few minutes. plus they are very animated people so its was easy to get some great photos.

this was actually my first time taking my new to me 5d to a shoot. used my trusty and battled scarred 50mm f/1.8. which reminds me i think i'm gonna get the 50mm f/1.4 once i get some spare cash. i think when i had put it back together it was off a bit so i think it forward focuses just a lil bit. i must say i'm very happy with it and don't expect to changing out camera bodies any time soon unless i come by a awesome deal.

almost caught up

playing a bit of catch up today. been doing a lot of food photography over the last month as well as moving to a new apartment. kinda a nice change from what i usually shoot. get to practice some more with off camera lighting. most of my friends are pretty surprised that i can cook. they usually don't see me cook because

really sucks buying some nice produce and then getting sent on a business trip and everything spoils. happens more often you would think. 

as of right now i have 2 shoots i have to setup. one for andrea for the rockstar competition. i also have to do a engagement shoot for my friend david before it starts to snow. gotta figure out some creative shoots. time to go scouring on flickr and pinterest some ideas for them. then scout out locations. i guess rest for me.

after all of that is done, i'm gonna start working on my "the dirty frechmen" series. i'll be elaborating on that idea later on once i free up later this month. hopefully i can get enough people to lend their time to help with it.

scallop time!!

we took some time from packing and cleaning to do some cooking again. tried my hand at cooking some scallops. which i fear i'll over cook or undercook them. they were so big i think i should of cut them in half so they would cook easier and more even. did one for her and one for me. gonna have to give it a few tries to perfect it but we're both happy how they came out.

first time ever poaching and eggs and they were a bit tricky at first. start off with a 6 pack of eggs. three made the cut and two were donated to a egg sandwich for her. they were like awesome lil gooey mozzarella balls. need to grab some pork belly or bacon next time.

my trusty e-pl1, i'm still on the fence if i want to get rid of it or not. it comes in pretty hand because of how compact it is. was really nice to have for my sf trip. i may go up to the next model because it has a electronic view finder you can buy. it's really hard to get a good focus on the lcd. i'm not really sure how people can do it on live view on a dslr.

i think it would be a million times better if i had grilled it but it was still damn good. its a super simple recipe and pretty healthy.

i'm weird but i like to get everything out before i start. i really hate digging thru my fridge. even though there's really just beer and condiments to shuffle thru.

healed and ready for a underground four square death match

i finally had my total thyroidectomy on aug 23rd. they pulled they sucker out with vengence. some dialog once i woke up

me "how big was it?"

doc "normally, its the size of your thumb. for you, you were hiding a golf and small racquetball up there. how are you feeling? hows the pain?'"

me "actually....really good, just a lil groggy. i can swallow alright and my voice is pretty good. just feels like someone throat punch is all"

doc "thats great to hear! i know you feel awesome and all but you can't push your body to hard."

he gives me that look..."bastard is gonna be running around and not listen to anything i told him." well i listened to him for the most part. but he wanted me to basically sit in a bed for three weeks about and walk around every once in awhile. my energy levels are a total 180 degrees, i'm awake and not always napping. i started biking again and hopefully be running and jogging in a few months.mom and pops decided to come out to my sisters which i was staying at. was kinda nice and then again it was a lil exhausting dealing with them a bit too.

sf - lynda's bday

since i wasn't able to make it to my brother's wedding in sapporo due to some health issue. i still feel really bad about my absence at his wedding. i was really looking to it too.

my best friend asked me to come out to sf to celebrate his wife's bday with them and some friends to get my mind of missing my brothers wedding. luckily i had a few hook ups and was able to get a round trip to  sf for like $50. i had a long weekend to recharge a bit and enjoy the company of some great friends. plus ate some great food.

it was my best friend derek's first father's day. derek and lynda had family and some friends over for a father's day lunch. some good ol' home cooking brought back some great memories. plus i got to play with olive :)
