Amazing Book Quotes

I'm an avid reader. I often come across a particular paragraph that is incredibly moving or memorable. I want to catalogue those moments in this blog. Whether it's tear-jerking, unbelievably sweet, or humorous - I want to cement it into my memory.

Vanyel found himself unable to move, and unable to anticipate the direction this was taking.

Now Moondance dropped his eyes to catch and hold Vanyel’s in a joining of glances and wills that was unbreakable.

Vanyel couldn’t breathe; he could only see those ice-blue eyes.

"Who are you?" he tried to ask, only somehow the words came out "Who am I?" instead.

"You are the wanderer who carries his home in his heart," the unseen speaker replied, sounding pleased with the question. "You are the bird who makes its nest on the waves. You will father a child of no woman."

A deathly chill rolled over him. "A curse?"

"A blessing."

Please- he asked, desperately, of powers that were not answering. Please- let me die. 

He thought of every mistake he had made, every wrong turning, and moaned, I deserve to die, he thought in anguish, closing his eyes. I want to die. 

:No.: The mind-voice was bright, bright as a flame, and sharp as steel, piercing his dark hope for death. :No, you must not. You must live, Chosen.:

He raised his head a little, but couldn’t get his eyes open, and really didn’t want to. :You don’t know,: he thought bleakly back at the intruder. :Let me alone. No one wants me, nobody should want me; I kill everything I care for.:

He brought his head up a little, and looked for the speaker with vision blurred by tears - and in a last glare of the lightning met a pair of glowing sapphire eyes - eyes so full of compassion and love that he knew their owner would forgive him anything.

"And I never told you-" Alec's pale face flushed crimson. "I don't understand it, but I-"

He faltered and Seregil pulled him closer. "I know, talí. I know."

It was Alec who brought their lips together.

Seregil's first reaction was disbelief. But Alec was insistent, clumsy but determined. It lasted an instant, an eternity, that one awkward kiss, and it spoke silent volumes of bewildered honesty.

The moment that followed was too fragile for words.

Everywhere he looked there was nothing but that barren, white plain. Completely empty, completely featureless. It was so cold he felt numb.

Numb. Not aching inside. Not ready to weep at a single word. Just - cold.

No pain. Just - nothing. He just stood, for several long moments, savoring the unfeeling, the lack of pain.

Safe. He was safe here. No one could touch him. As long as he stayed in this isolation, this wilderness, no one could touch him.

He opened his eyes wide in the dream, and breathed the words out. "If no one touches me - no one can hurt me. All I have to do is never care."

It was like a revelation, a gift from the hitherto-uncaring gods. This place, this wilderness of ice - if he could hold it inside him - if he could not care enough - he could be safe. No matter what happened, who hated him, no one could ever hurt him again.

Not ever again.

It wasn’t a pretty thing, death. It didn’t spare your dignity, or your feelings. It just took you; sometimes by surprise, and sometimes with plenty of warning. If you were lucky, you had time to prepare yourself, to prepare your family and your loved ones, or in my case to spare them from the ugliness. If you were unlucky - you just dropped.

Either way, maybe the world would hear about your passing, and maybe someone would care.

Or… maybe not.

Alec smiled. “You called me that by accident the first time, remember?”

“Unthinking, perhaps, but no accident.”

Alec’s cheeks went crimson as he declared softly, “You’re my talí, too.”
