I don't want Elon Musk to kill himself because that would get him some sympathy from liberals and "oh so you don't care about mentally ill people?" would become a common line. Ideally I'd like him to be assassinated Luigi-style, but again that runs the risk of him becoming a martyr. No, the best way for him to die is in a stupid accident of his own creation, which I'm frankly shocked hasn't happened yet. Y'know like Tesla malfunction, falls over the non-OSHA-certified guard rails in his own factory, SpaceX explosion, crushed to death trying to fuck one of his ugly robots, ect.

....it is just barely possible i have finally found an ethical use for genAI: generating fake reports to bog down ICE/DEI tip lines and their ilk. is this anything?
ok hate hate hate that you guys are making me defend it, but please shut up talk less about the environmental impacts of genAI. because firstly:
it's way more complicated than you think--to the point that this argument will be turned against you (e.g.: it takes more energy to train an ai model than to use it, so the more times you use it the better value you get for the initial cost)
your arguments will easily be co-opted by advertisers for new "eco-friendly!" genAI platforms. you are paving the way for the next 2 decades of advertising campaigns
you think you're bolstering your argument, but in the long-term you are teaching people to ignore the FUNDAMENTAL issue: genAI replaces human workers by stealing their work. And this will have devastating long-term socioeconomic effects.
genAI could magically become zero emissions tomorrow, and it would still massively devalue labor (aka let corporations pay their workers even less) by stealing and imitating the product of other people's labor. and this will have devastating long-term socioeconomic impacts
seriously though I betcha there are already graphic designers out there planning cute little leaf icons & green mascots for the fun new "eco-friendly 😊" genAI brands that will naturally be marketed over the next few years (an easy thing to produce, since technology becomes more efficient over time.)
let me repeat that. technology becomes more efficient over time. the computing power that required a massive NASA facility storage room in the 1960s now easily fits into a device thinner than a dictionary. the environmental cost of AI is a temporary concern (or at least one that can easily be minimized and disputed).
if your argument against a technology is "it's not energy efficient" then you aren't arguing against the technology, you're arguing for it (to become more efficient)
so yeah, that's a distraction that prevents us from focusing on the root problem. the arguments you're making now? sound an awful lot like "genAI should be BETTER." when what we actually mean is: it should not be.
this thing isn't artificial intelligence, it's automated theft.
