Hoy descubren la palabra de esta primera fase, CARIBE. Después de mujeres y pájaros no puede faltar tradiciones, así que hoy les traigo la historia de la etnia indígena Ette-Ennaka más conocida como los chimila pero como para ellos les resulta peyorativo llamarles así lo dejaremos por su nombre. Los Ette-ennaka provienen geográficamente del departamento del Magdalena, guajira y cesar. Son el 0.12% de la población indígena de Colombia, su lengua proviene del chibcha e históricamente se conocen por haber sido el grupo con mayor resistencia al impacto de colonización de los españoles. Durante años usaron el método de “invisibilizacion” para no perder sus raíces. Algunos migraron a zonas boscosas, otros decidieron “asimilar la cultura occidental “ y en clandestinidad ejercer sus tradiciones de manera que no se perdiera su sabiduría. 

Una de las cosas que me resulta más interesante de esta etnia es su cosmovision, ya que a partir de la interpretación de sueños logran transmitir sus saberes y reproducir su cultura. Su trabajo artesanal se desarrolla tejiendo mochilas de algodón que representan el cuerpo humano siendo la cabeza el fondo de la mochila, los brazos los cordones y el ombligo la base de la mochila. 

Today you discover the word of this first phase, CARIBE. After women and birds, traditions can not be missing, so today I bring you the story of the Ette-Ennaka indigenous ethnic group, better known as the Chimila, but as they find it pejorative to call them like that, we will leave it by their ethnic name. The Ette-ennaka come geographically from the department of Magdalena, Guajira and Cesar. They are 0.12% of the indigenous population of Colombia, their language comes from the Chibcha and historically they are known to have been the group with the greatest resistance to the impact of Spanish colonization. For years they used the method of "invisibilization” reason : not lose their roots. Some migrated to forested areas, others decided to "assimilate Western culture" and clandestinely exercise their traditions so that their wisdom was not lost.

One of the things that I find most interesting about this ethnic group is its cosmovision, since from the interpretation of dreams they manage to transmit their knowledge and reproduce their culture. La publicación de tradiciones de hoy es especial porque llego de manera inesperada. En alguna publicación anterior de tradiciones hablaba sobre los Embera y en esta ocasión lo retomo porque tuve la experiencia de un curso que creería es el primero con artesanos de origen en Bogotá. Este curso lo ofrecía Mawakatio, una marca que trabaja fuertemente por la recuperación del lenguaje de los Embera-Katio por medio de productos bellísimos. He visto en los últimos tiempos que cada vez se hacen productos con artesanos pero influenciados por innovaciones que en muchos casos pierden el valor principal, su comunicación y significado por medio de la técnica. Es por esto que decidí ofrecer esta primera publicación a los Embera-Katio por medio de esta marca, porque más allá de un curso termino en una inspiración personal. Sin más preámbulos, les cuento que la experiencia fue maravillosa porque tuve la oportunidad de compartir con uno de los motores principales de su marca, los artesanos (Olguita y su hija Carolina). Nos contaron sobre su vida en Bogotá después de haber sido afectados por el conflicto armado, hablo en su lengua, nos explico el significado de los colores y de algunos objetos principales en su cultura, como la Okama: un collar que las mujeres ponen en el cuello, que representa el camino. Hablo del vestido que llevaba puesto, un atuendo que usan en ocasiones especiales y ese día lo era. Aprendimos a tejer una manilla, la cual termine haciendo mitad yo y mitad Carolina. Prometí hacer una sola con los materiales que me sobraron, espero en esta ocasión no equivocarme tejiendo. Es bonito poder vivir experiencias así donde todo se convierte en alimento profesional y personal.

The publication of today's traditions is special because it arrived unexpectedly. In some previous publications of traditions I spoke about the Embera and this time I took it back because I had the experience of a course that I would believe is the first one with artisans of origin in Bogota. This course was offered by Mawakatio, a brand that works hard for the recovery of the language of the Embera-Katio through beautiful products. I have seen in recent times that every time products are made with craftsmen but influenced by innovations that in many cases lose the main value, its communication and meaning through technique. That is why I decided to offer this first publication to the Embera-Katio through this brand, because beyond a course I end up with a personal inspiration. Without further ado, I tell you that the experience was wonderful because I had the opportunity to share with one of the main engines of your brand, the artisans (Olguita and her daughter Carolina). They told us about their life in Bogotá after being affected by the armed conflict, I speak in their language, we explained the meaning of colors and some main objects in their culture, such as the Okama: a necklace that women put on the neck, which represents the road. I'm talking about the dress I was wearing, an outfit they wear on special occasions and that day it was. We learned to weave a handle, which ends up doing half me and half Carolina. I promised to make one with the materials that were left over, I hope this time I will not make a mistake by weaving. It is nice to be able to live experiences like this where everything becomes professional and personal food.

El post de tradiciones de hoy llega gracias a la ayuda de mi padre. Don gordo como dulcemente le llamo, en esta época del año trabaja por meses en el Departamento del César parte nor-occidente de Colombia y hace algunos días me hablaba sobre unas cortinas hechas en fibra, me decía que quería comprarlas por sus colores llamativos y por el frescor que da a las casa para bajar las altas temperaturas del día a día. Nuestro tema terminó en la búsqueda de que tipo de fibra era y en la historia de la señora Carmen. Doña Carmen vive en el municipio de Chimichagua y desde hace años elabora tapetes y cortinas con la Palma de estera para ayudar a su familia con las necesidades del día día. Para elaborar sus productos con estera primero monta una urdimbre en fique ( es decir, un conjunto de hilos colocados en paralelo a lo largo del telar para poder formar un tejido). Después teniendo esto se dispone a la creación de su producto tejiendo en un telar vertical que puede graduarse dependiendo el tamaño del producto. Después lo que ocurre es magia, la imaginación de cada artesano, su historia tejida en un producto que durante semanas elaboran para que se use como decoración de mesa, cortinas, cubre lecho y en algunos casos como colchón.

Desde hace 9 años  en  Ayapel - Córdoba (departamento al norte de Colombia),  trabajan la cestería por medio de la palma de seje. Una palma que gracias a los palos flexibles que le cuelgan permite acoplar fácilmente sus formas en cada pieza, sus diseños son muy autóctonos y poseen una gama amplia de productos funcionales. Para la elaboración de sus productos necesitan de una organización inicial la cual empieza con la extracción del racimo de la palma, en el caso del corregimiento del cedro lo encuentran a 4 horas de su zona lo que les supone un desplazamiento largo, después de tener el racimo necesitan varillas de acero para dar forma al cesto, nylon, pintura, tiner, soldadura y jabón para el lavado final. Aunque parece rápido y fácil al leerlo es un trabajo arduo que debe ser valorado y mucho mas cuando cada producto tiene la historia del artesano. Actualmente hay asociaciones y más turistas que visitan Ayapel y se decantan por estos cestos que según me dicen son famosos por su calidad. Si te acercas a Ayapel no olvides comprar uno y si es posible ayudar con la plantación de arboles que pretende recuperar los recursos naturales y contribuir con la situación actual que vive el complejo cenagoso.
