"Y-you wwwhat?" Pierrot's smile was instantly destroyed by Harlequin's reply.
"I said no...Listen Pierrot--" Harlequin looked at the ring in Pierrot's hand and made him close his hand shut to hide it from his view. "I've been enjoying our fun together but--Marriage? D-don't you think you're taking this game too far now?"
"G-game?" Pierrot stepped closer to him, but Harlequin instantly stepped back, and more. Creating enough space between the both of them. "Y-you believe this was all a game?"
"I mean of course! Only a fool would think what we had was real." Harlequin let out a small laugh, but it sounded as forced as it felt from him.
"...I...I see..." Pierrot lowered his head down, his heart breaking before Harlequin.
"...Save that ring for someone else who deserves it. Because you and I both know, if this was...real...I sure as hell don't deserve that." Harlequin said before turning away and walking away from him. Though internally, he was screaming at himself, since truly...He wanted to say yes but yet felt like he didn't deserve it.
[Not too far off in the future, a few weeks later after that Moonless night]
"What do you want?" Harlequin muttered out as he stayed laying down on his side, his back facing the entrance to his tent.
"...You're right." Pierrot said with a coldness as stood at the entrance.
Harlequin raised a brow, finally turning his body around to look at Pierrot. "What?"
"You said you didn't deserve it, and before I didn't believe it but now...I believe it...She deserved it however. You knew...and you destroyed that."
Harlequin was silent as he stared at Pierrot, then his eyes finally locked onto his hands...In one hand...A ring covered in dried blood...Another hand...A knife that glisten in the little light slipping into the tent.
Then he locked his eye with Pierrot, seeing the pain and anger in them. "YOU DESTROYED EVERYTHING!"
Harlequin could of reacted, he could of tried to stop him, tried to run, even if it was going to be futile the moment he heard that voice.
But he didn't. He hardly put up a fight as he let Pierrot pin him down and stab him multiple times. Just to let his anger and frustrations out on him.
It was painful, frightening to see the beast be set free from Pierrot before his very eyes.
Though ironically through it all...Harlequin felt some joy from this all...
For the first time in a long time...Pierrot's attention and affection was on him again.
