Prince of Wolves by Quinn Loftis
Prince of Wolves is a book about a teenage girl who discovers she is the soul mate of a werewolf, she's cool with it (but who wouldn't be, he's like so totally smokin) and comes to terms with the fact he is reading her mind in the matter of an hour (But I mean he's hot, so what's the big deal). Now, I know what you're thinking. It's cliche, overdone, and frankly a play off the ever so popular Twilight series. Minus the whole 'Edward can't read Bella's mind' thing. But being the book connoisseur that I am, and because it was free (and I hate to say, I did enjoy Twilight just a teeny bit) I decided that I would give this a shot.
Now, to get down to it, Prince of Wolves was surprising. Whether it be in a good or bad way, I still do not know. The main character Jacque (seriously, Jacque? It'd be cool if I could read a ya paranormal romance novel in which I actually knew how to pronounce the protagonist's name. Just a thought) Is quite the opposite of her seemingly counterpart Bella Swan. She's outgoing, sassy and sarcastic. I quite enjoyed the banter her and her two friends took part in. Now with that being said, Jacque is an extremely one-dimensional character. She has no depth to her whatsoever. Yes, she is sassy, yes she is super sarcastic, but other than that there is isn't much to her. When the Romanian Werewolf guy, Fane (Seriously, Fane? I don't even think I need to comment on that one) spoke to her IN HER MIND she's all, 'I need to call my BFF's like, totally, right like now'. I'm sorry, but if some exchange student starts speaking to me IN MY HEAD calling me some weird pet names like <i>his moon</i> I'm not going to call up Tiffany and Brittany right away. I'm going to google what the hell is wrong with me. Then I'm going to kick his ass for comparing me to something that is huge, pale and bumpy.
As for the secondary characters, I found that they weren't even able to be put into a one-dimensional category. (Is there a 1/4 dimensional category? Can we make this a thing?) Their witty banter was hilarious, but extremely unrealistic. Neither of the characters had any prominent qualities, and if the author accidentally switched their names halfway through I would have never noticed. Also, where are their parent's? Did they forget they have daughters who seem to be at their friends house 24/7? Her mother was also a very submissive character, who seemed to just be the placeholder for a parent (aka. the average mom) Fane is actually a bit more of a developed character compared to the rest of the bunch, but yet still very much one-sided. I probably just like him because he's hot and owns a motorcycle (seriously, how cliche can we be now)
Now, the plot wasn't too bad. If it was written differently and if the characters had more depth, this would have been a winner. It was interesting enough to keep me attentive even though the writing was screaming at me to run away. Jacque and Fane's relationship does develop a tiny bit, but it goes from "who the hell are you" to "I love you" in a manner of 2 paragraphs. After that, there is literally no relationship development between them. The author also throws in a lot of Romanian which throws me off, especially when she only says what the Romanian means only once then keeps repeating the phrases with no indication what the flying fahoodle those phrases mean again. The author clearly needs more practice in writing in 3rd person because there were a few times when the sentences just didn't flow. There wasn't anything that specifically stood out to me but many sentences just rubbed me the wrong way and just felt outright awkward. For example,
"Wow, I mean wow, is all Jacque could think"
"Jacque sat up and looked around her room, and thought, this was a place I feel safe and comfortable"
"I'll let them sleep while I get a shower she thought."
So, in conclusion. I actually did sort of enjoy Prince of Wolves. I did buy the next book and plan to tackle it first thing tomorrow. But, I tend to like to finish entire book series even if I didn't necessarily enjoy them, so you may not feel the same way. If the second book was full price instead of 1.99 I wouldn't have taken the plunge. Basically, I'd recommend giving this a try if it is free (and it was for me) and see if you like it. But if you find yourself halfway through contemplating throwing it away, but don't know if it will get better? Throw it. It's pretty much the same the entire way through.

please excuse my poor grammar, sentence structure, and spelling , for I am by no means a writer or should judge people on their writing (but I do it anyway. What are gonna do. It's my hearts desire to point out flaws in things I know nothing about), as I am a strictly Math/Science kinda girl, and absolutely hated English. Thanks for sticking with my horrific English skills through the end.
