Flood Updates: What we are doing!
Firstly, we have not been affected directly by the flooding. Our facility is up and running normally with minor telephone problems due to moisture in the line. We are lucky to be on high ground. Our hearts go out to the people who have been directly affected by the events over the last week.
Currently, we are taking donations that will go to Alberta Animal Rescue Crew Society(AARCS) to help out with the furry flood victims in Calgary and surrounding areas. Wild Rose Humane Society will be helping us transport goods to AARCS.
"Right now we are in high demand for the following items:
Dog/Puppy Food Cat/Kitten Food Litter Laundry Supplies (Bleach, Laundry Detergent, & Dryer Sheets) Puppy Pads/Newspaper Waste Bags Zip Ties"
- AARCS
We are also opening our doors to any people who have been displaced and need a space to house their animals. Please call ahead to ensure that we have space available for your pet. The number to call is (403) 234-7297. To speak to me directly, call (403)471-7150.
We would like to thank the people from AARCS for the wonderful job they are doing spearheading the rescue of so many displaced animals. Also, to all of the volunteers helping with the relief in general - thank you for your efforts. This is what makes southern Alberta a wonderful place to live!
Keep safe, dry and warm ! If anyone needs shelter for their pets, please call us!

This is absolutely adorable! (How to kiss your dog the family dog way)
"You owe it to him to be worthy of his devotion"
This dog was brought in to us for grooming with severe matting a few years ago.
She had trouble moving her legs because of the tightness of the mats in her armpits. A few of her nails had started to curl into her feet, luckily not penetrating the skin.
She was in visible discomfort before she was groomed.
Her hair basically came off in one piece.
She ended up looking so happy after her groom! She was able to move freely, and her skin was able to breath. However, there was some redness and discomfort from the mats pulling on her skin.
While we hate to see dogs like this, we are happy to groom them and try to improve their quality of life. In the worst cases, matting can cause rashes, rot, hematomas, and shock from removing the hair too quickly. We like to be able to prevent matting of this severity through educating our clients on proper grooming techniques and shaving dogs like the one above. In some cases, groomers will have to send a dog to the vet so that their pet can be sedated for grooming because of the risk of shock and infections. Luckily, our clients are very well versed in grooming their pets regularly! We very rarely have a case like this, when it appears the pet hasn't been brushed for months. We'd like to thank our clients for taking such good care of their pets, and bringing happy healthy dogs to us for our services.
Pet owners should understand when attaining a pet, that there are certain responsibilities that come with their companionship. Namely, keeping them healthy and happy, whether or not that means taking extra time out of your day to brush your dog (or cat), educating yourself on the type of coat your pet has, and the requirements of taking care of such a coat, or at the very least regular trips to the groomer.
We recommend that dogs are brought to us at least every 6 weeks to ensure that their coat is well maintained. We, along with most other grooming facilities, offer a discount for clients who bring their dogs in regularly so that we can ensure the dog is consistently matt-free.
Here is a quote I found on responsible pet ownership that sums up our beliefs very eloquently:
“He is your friend, your partner, your defender, your dog. You are his life, his love, his leader. He will be yours, faithful and true, to the last beat of his heart. You owe it to him to be worthy of such devotion.”

Growling is a way for your dog to tell you that he/she is uncomfortable...
Listen to your pooch. If they're growling, they probably have good reason and are trying to tell you that they are uncomfortable.
Yelling at your dog or punishing them for growling is only going to confuse them, and may potentially be dangerous in the long run if they have no way of warning someone that they will bite if pushed too far.
Each dog has their own comfort zone, and as their companion, it is your job to respect their space and help give them tools to cope, not punish them when they feel uncomfortable.
Taking them to classes like "Leash Lungers", "Good-bye Growl", "Bye-bye Shy" and "Scaredy Dog" (Available at Sit Happens! and Cochrane Humane Society) can help extremely well with dogs who either growl because they are scared or have problems with reactivity.

This man is a shinning example of how we can create a bond with the animals that we share our lives with through trust and respect. Enjoy!
Pawgress Reports
We will be offering an additional service starting March 1st!
The Place 4 Paws will be offering PAWGRESS REPORTS! On your report your pet will receive a rating on their stay based on how they ate, played with other pets and the staff and a general overview of their activities. We will be giving you details about how your pet did while they stayed with us so that you can feel confident about your pet's health and happiness at their home away from home.
All pets that stay with us will receive one Pawgress Report during the month of March!
After March we will be offering a Pawgress Report for all new clients and all previous clients will receive one upon request!
If you have any feedback on our newest service, send us an email at [email protected]!

Oh hello!
As the old adage goes, dogs are a man’s best friends. Apparently it was with this in mind that the German company named itself Best Friends Home and set out to create beautiful looking places for dogs. They create special, neat looking homes for dogs that a customer could get...
I HIGHLY doubt we could get George to do this!
Cute though!
