From all of us here at The Porch Report, we hope you have a Happy Easter.
Buy or Sell
Ten topics - one answer....it’s buy or sell
1. The Redskins draft a quarterback with their first pick in the 2015 draft. (number 5 overall)
2. Kentucky goes undefeated.
3. Tiger Woods wins a major this year.
4. The Bills, Jets, or Dolphins win the AFC East this year
5. The Pitch Clock is a success
6. Mayweather beats Pacquiao
7. Colts make it back to AFC Championship game
8. The Bulls move on from Derrick Rose
9. Ovechkin ends regular season with most goals
10. Nothing happens to the Patriots from deflate-gate
Sitting Durant is the correct move
Despite being the eighth seed in the Western Conference, the Thunder are doing the right thing with KD in sitting him. They are proving they can win without him while letting Russell Westbrook run the show. Nobody expects them to beat Golden State in the first round if the seeding all stays the same, but why trot out a not fully recovered Durant to mess up the flow of the game?
Ibaka is also injured so that hurts their rebounding even though they are 1st overall in the league with 47.7 per game. They only need to win a handful more games to seal their spot in the postseason. With a lot of tough teams coming up, they might actually find themselves out of the postseason unless Russell Westbrook is still on fire. Only time will tell.
Letting KD heal shows that the team cares about his long term health considering they will need to re-sign him or let him walk. As everyone in DC waits with baited breath for KD to “come home”, nothing is a sure thing in this world. Especially in the NBA, where players just hop to whatever team they feel like. Players control their destiny and their star power is what controls it.
KD is no Lebron, but don't be surprised if he thinks about going to DC. I am sure John Wall and Bradley Beal would love that.

Washington Sports Teams Weekly Status Report
Redskins - One of the biggest things that Washington needed to fix was their lackluster defense. Well, some free agent help has come in the name of Stephen Paea, Terrance Knighton, Ricky Francois, Chris Culliver, and Jeron Johnson. So why did they resign Colt McCoy? A one year deal with a quarterback that has been around the block a time or two and is liked by the coaching staff helps. What if the Redskins actually do draft a quarterback this year? Yes it is doubtful but you never know. It will be interesting to see the upcoming moves and how we play in preseason.
Capitals - Despite being 7th in Goals per game, 7th in goals against per game, and being 1st in power play percentage, the Capitals sit at the 7th if the season ended today. Ovechkin and Backstrom of course lead the way with points both tied at 71 but Ovechkin has more than double the goals of everyone else on the team. Granted they are not having trouble scoring a lot of points but the biggest issue is powerplay defense, ranked 16th in the league right now. That has to change. Nobody expected a strong presence in the playoffs this year so we could sneak off a series win depending on who we match up with. Tomorrow we play the Wild, we gotta win that game.
Wizards - Sitting at the 5th seed, the Wizards have a nice little 4 game winning streak going on as they take on the Utah Jazz tonight. They really need to get their rhythm back (see what I did there) if they want a good chance at making a run in the playoffs. A few scary teams left; Golden State, Houston, Memphis, and Cleveland but if we can sneak a win or two out of those and decimate the rest of our opponents we might move back up to 3 seed. I do like a series against the Bulls. We can definitely beat them. We just cannot fall off after being highly seeded for most of this season.
Nationals - Do we care if Harper slacked a little on that play where he threw the guy out? No because he got him out!!! Come on now people. Baiting is a part of baseball. That is how the pitcher throws them out at first or second base. That false sense of security really bodes well to catching someone off guard. I am a little worried with our feeble lineup right now (Rendon and Denard injuries) because most of the time our biggest problem is stringing hits together and scoring. We should have no problem pitching. Lord knows we have 5 amazing pitchers and a pretty good bullpen after some changes.

Tebow Tease
The Philadelphia Eagles worked out Tim Tebow and the entire nation went nuts over it. Did people expect them to actually sign Tebow? They would probably have to get rid of Matt Barkley (remember him) to even think about keeping another quarterback.
While I would not argue about him fitting in the system, I would wonder just how ready Tebow is. Some people are saying he has improved. I can’t wait to watch the Veteran Combine to see for myself.
Does he deserve a shot? Of course he does. He barely got to play in NY or NE and some of it seemed more defined by his politics/religion than his play. Yes his unorthodox throwing motion did not help but he has the heart and determination to do great things in this league. Remember what he did against the Steelers in the playoffs? Yes a lil luck helps too but we all know the NFL has some luck to it.
When Tebow time comes, I’ll let you know.
Will Pete Rose be reinstated?
Recently, Pete Rose formally applied to be reinstated so that he may end up in the Hall of Fame. The Old Commissioner wouldn't even think of it; but the new one is going to at least give it a thought.
We all know that Pete was banned from Baseball due to betting on games while playing and managing, but he never did steroids like some of these other athletes did. His record still stands.....and has yet to be broken.
The MLB Players Union Director is supporting this cause. I just wonder how many of the voters who get together every year would actually vote him in.
Would you?

Redskin Free Agency
The defensive overhaul continues for the Redskins, as they reach a deal with Safety Jeron Johnson from Seattle today. Although he had limited action on defense, he established himself as a strong special teams player. He did have to back up Kam Chancellor afterall.
However, McCloughan found Johnson attractive because of the physicality and tackling ability he displayed both on special teams and in his limited time on defense for the Seahawks, and because of his body of work in college (Johnson finished 12th all time in career tackles at Boise State with 318).
With the team having 5 other safeties on the roster that have not proven themselves, it is obvious that some competition needs to brew within the secondary.
The other notable signings have been Stephen Paea, Terrance Knighton, and Chris Culliver. All hopeful to strengthen a terrible defense. The Redskins could still use a dominant pass rusher at ROLB to go with Kerrigan, and must find a Right Tackle. I expect those needs will be filled in the draft.
March Madness - Let the Games Begin
It’s almost that time everyone. Have you done your bracket yet? I have three of them, you can find me in a few groups on ESPN. My username is The Don Chuckyyy. I have an entry in the Around the Horn group, the PTI group, and the Highly Questionable Group. With three different brackets, naturally I picked three different winners; Kentucky, Duke, and UVA. What are some things you need to remember when picking brackets?
- A 16 seed has never beaten a 1 seed in this tournament. - A 15 seed has beaten a 2 seed 7 times - A 14 seed has beaten a 3 seed 18 times - A 13 seed has beaten a 4 seed 25 times - A 12 seed has beaten a 5 seed 44 times - An 11 seed has beaten a 6 seed 41 times - Someone unknown could be the next Cinderella - No team has gone undefeated through their season and the tourney since 1976.
One thing I love about March Madness is it is always exciting and down to the wire. There are no sitting back and waiting until the last 5 minutes to try to catch up like in the NBA.

Ed Sabol
Per ESPN, NFL Films founder Ed Sabol died at 98 years old. He was inducted into the Pro Football HOF in 2011. During his tenure at NFL Films from 1964-1995, the organization won 52 Emmy Awards.
"Through his determination and innovative spirit, Ed Sabol transformed how America watched football and all sports," NFL commissioner Roger Goodell said in a statement. "Ed ignited the fire at NFL Films and was the Keeper of the Flame with a remarkable vision and dedication to telling the stories of the people who played, coached and loved the game."
Working with his son, Steve, Sabol introduced a series of innovations taken for granted today: super slow-motion replays, blooper reels, reverse angle shots. They stuck microphones on coaches and players, set highlights to pop music, and recorded pregame locker room speeches.
Steve Sabol, who succeeded his father as NFL Films' president in 1985, died in 2012 at age 69 of brain cancer.
I remember when I first stumbled upon NFL Films on ESPN Classic many years ago. This man was a genius in the way he portrayed the storytelling of these sporting events.
RIP Ed Sabol. Your family is in our prayers.
