The Power of You

  This exhibition is a celebration of how beautiful and powerful YOU are. Most of us don’t really believe we’re very powerful – or beautiful either. And it is limiting beliefs like these that hold us back from truly living our lives with a sense of adventure and excitement.

The show tells of my own journey of uncovering parts of myself that were blocking me from creating the life I wanted to be living. I hope to inspire you to see yourself and your struggles through my story. And to know you have the power to release your own limiting beliefs to be fully present and alive in every moment.

I created much of this exhibition through dialogues with different aspects of myself, including my own chakras. This might seem like a strange thing to put in an art exhibition. Yet as we awaken more and more to our beautiful powerful selves, we will all begin to see that the more love we give ourselves, the more love ripples outward into the world, affecting our families, our co-workers, our cities, countries and the entire planet.

We will easily step away from the fear-based life most of us feel stuck in to a life of joy and adventure in each moment. We each have the power to Choose the life we desire.

The exhibition is a way to show how we can use art as a tool for personal growth, discovery and releasing blocks that hold us back from expressing our highest selves.

I loved putting my textile art skills to use again... all hand dyed fabrics, machine quilted, painted faces and so on. 30" tall (76cm). This was a totally new adventure for me. I've never made anything quite like these  before and each one grew out of the experience of the one before it.

These photos show the printed pages from 7 art journals I created.

Based on the work of Tim Kelley and Jeffrey van Dyke (True Purpose Institute), I began a series of dialogues with different parts of myself. I felt like certain aspects – like the side I call my Procrastinator – were getting in the way of me accomplishing what I wanted to do.

So I interviewed that part of myself to ask what its purpose was and why it seemed to be sabotaging me. These parts of our personality or ego take on their jobs when we’re young children and keep doing the same thing for years. Really they are all trying to protect us in one-way or another.

As adults we find they are actually holding us back. By having these interviews, I could renegotiate their job descriptions and make them my ally instead of my saboteur.

To my amazement all of them were tired of doing the same old thing. They all were excited to be given new jobs that would actually help all the parts work together so we could be more in harmony and have a lot more fun!

Instead of trying to get rid of parts of myself I didn’t especially like – which is impossible to do – I welcomed them into my awareness. This is another way we can send love to ourselves to find that wholeness within.

In the Flow: my Time Manager who told me to talk to My Visionary whose name is Clarity.

These batiks became a symbol of releasing both the limiting beliefs we hold about ourselves - as well as setting our gifts free into the world during an opening night interactive public performance.
