Game of Nonsense Week 4: What kind of white feminist nonsense is this?
I want to get this out of the way before anything more is said: yes, I AM happy that Daario and Jorah’s bro trip did not end up saving Daenerys. Yes, that was avoided.
Granted, given that, I DO wish they hadn’t utterly wasted our time with this subplot in the first place, especially since it went nowhere and actually ultimately made Daenerys’s Empowered™ moment all the less empowering simply by existing.
Yeah, I know, there are going to be a lot of people who are going to claim that I can’t be happy with anything, that we’d been predicting that Dany would ultimately saved by Daario and Jorah and that the show proved us wrong, and I just have sour grapes. There are going to be people who say, “Look, Wendy, Women on Top! Just like they promised. Dany saved herself and conquered people in the process! Now you’re just determined to take issue with everything.”
Okay, look: I do think, that under certain circumstances, this plotline in “Book of the Stranger” could have worked. No, really! There were almost, sort of shades of a good idea here!
