Every time I wander through Hogwarts at night, when the halls and corridors are empty, I somehow end up running into Ominis or Sebastian (Ominis more often). It feels like two lovers finding each other in secret.
I'm writting this and 'Him & I' by Halsey and G-Eazy is playing in the backround. Such a vibe🤌🏻✨️
There is currently a devastating wildfire in my country, Spain. So much land has already been destroyed, taking a terrible toll on wildlife and nature. I live in the Canary Islands, while this tragedy is happening in mainland Spain, but my heart goes out to everyone affected. I cannot imagine the pain and fear of those who have been forced to leave their homes behind. I sincerely hope this nightmare ends soon. It has been heartbreaking and terrifying to witness, even through videos. Everything will be fine🇪🇸💔
I was trying to sleep, but I just saw Ominis with Lucius Malfoy's hairstyle in my mind and I don't know how I'll pretend everything is ok from now on...
Sebastian Sallow just realized he fell in love with you before he even noticed.
He had always believed his heart only knew how to chase danger and having to worry about things that no one his age should have to worry about... until you came into his life.
Now, between laughter in the corridors and little moments away from everyone else, he finds himself looking for you without any reason.
Sometimes, all he wants is to look at you, engrave your beautiful smile into his brain and remember that, for once, he has something to protect without being afraid of losing it.
And when he whispers that you are the best thing that ever happened to him, you know he means it with all his heart.
When I was a kid, I used to play Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban on the GameCube. One of my favorite things about that game was being able to switch between Harry, Ron, and Hermione whenever I wanted. I think it would be incredible if Hogwarts Legacy 2 let us create a group with Ominis and Sebastian and switch between our characters during the story.
Things I think Ominis and MC would do once they graduate from Hogwarts:
💚They would get married very young (around the age of 18 or right after graduating). Back then (1800s), marriage was often the path that made life "easier" in many ways for some couples, but I don’t think Ominis and MC would have chosen marriage for convenience. Their love was never about what marriage could offer them in the future. It was about choosing each other first, no matter what life brings. A proof of their loyalty and love for each other.
As I said in another post, Ominis' parents would have likely tried to arrange a marriage for him after he finished his studies in Hogwarts, but there is no way either of them (Ominis and MC) would allow a loveless marriage to come between them. Why would they wait when they already know what they want?
Ominis knows he wants to spend the rest of his life with MC, and MC feels exactly the same towards him. They are each other’s home, happiness and peace. Their love is real and when two people have already found the person they want to share their entire life with, there is no reason to wait.
💚Once they are married, they would move to another country, far away from the influence of Gaunt family.
💚They would probably even choose to live a peaceful life among muggles. I think Ominis inner child would be so happy to be living like this.
💚Beside exchanging letters with their friends (Anne, Sebastian, Natsai, Poppy...), I don't think they would want to get involved with another wizards. At least not for a while.
💚If they have children (and I'm pretty sure they would become a lovely little family of 3 very soon into the marriage), those kids will be the most loved children in the entire world.
💚If their children are wizards/witches too, I think they would still prefer to send them to a small muggle school and simply teach them basic magic at home. Ominis would die if his little angels get to know about the existence of an unforgivable curse in the future.
💚When it comes to work, I think they would be more than capable of doing a "muggle job". They are both brilliant as a wizard and witch, but even more as people, so I don’t think adapting would be a problem for them.
If they chose to work in the magical world, I imagine they would look for something that allowed them to protect muggles, squibs, and muggle-borns from the cruelty and prejudice of “pure-blood” families like the Gaunts and certain villains (yes, I'm talking about you, Ranrok).
I can also picture MC having a job that allows them to continue learning about the history of magic. No matter how much time passes, the magic world will always feel like a new and fascinating thing. Maybe one day they would even create their own little organization... a place dedicated to helping others and making the world a little kinder.
I adore Ominis' hair. There is something so endearing about imagining him each morning, meticulously combing it back with such care, ensuring every strand falls perfectly into place.
OMINIS: May I be so bold as to taste thy lips, and discover whether they possess the sweetness they so gracefully promise?
*He whispered softly. His forehead pressed against hers, his fingers traced the softness of her cheek with the utmost tenderness & their lips brushing ever so gently*
After the kiss:
OMINIS: Mayhap I have dreamt this moment, for surely no mortal heart could be blessed with such sweetness, my lady.
🌼 Personally, I love Noctis so much. It's a mix of aunt Noctua + Ominis.
🌼 Fun fact: one of my favorite game characters is Noctis (Final Fantasy XV)
🌼 Baby Noctua was not planned & she was born 2 months after Ominis & MC's first grandchild. Naming her Noctua was MC's idea because she was born the same day and month as aunt Noctua and she was Ominis' dearest aunt.
🌼 Sebastian & Poppy were named after Ominis & MC's best friends, Poppy Sweeting & Sebastian Sallow. They always stood by their side during and after Hogwarts.
You should see this post before reading this story
Hogwarts had always been a fascinating place for anyone who walked through its doors for the very first time.
Ghosts wandered its corridors, drifting through students just to tease them or play pranks. Portraits argued with one another, many of them preserving the memories of some of the most important figures in the wizarding world. Staircases shifted at will or at the request of those climbing them, and secrets lay hidden behind the ancient stone walls that had stood for centuries upon centuries.
The castle grounds spread out far beyond the school itself, offering endless beautiful spots to spend every afternoon after class. Not far away, stood a forest that students were strictly forbidden to go to, and beyond that, lay the cozy village called Hogsmeade, reached by a long and pleasant walk. It was where students spent most of their weekends.
But that year, a secret emerged that not even Hogwarts itself seemed to see coming.
A new student.
A witch whose magic had awakened much later than everyone else's in the castle. A girl who received her Hogwarts letter at the age of sixteen.
MC.
Orphaned at the age of ten, born to muggle parents, and raised completely outside the wizarding world, no one expected the strange girl with warm smile and curious eyes to possess such extraordinary magical talent.
Even the professors were surprised to learn that a new student would be joining the sixth year. Although she still had to learn from the beginnig, her intelligence and habilities were so remarkable that they agreed she was more than capable of studying alongside students her own age.
Everything had happened so suddenly, that MC barely had time to learn what she should expect from this new chapter of her life.
Certain morning, she simply woke up to find the few furniture in her bedroom floating through the air, just like the nightmare she had that night. Then, without thinking, a single word escaped her lips. A word she had never said before in her life.
Then, the furniture crashed to the floor and the window broke into thousands of tiny pieces.
Later that same morning, she received a letter. THAT letter. By the afternoon, Headmaster Black and Professor Fig were standing at the front door.
The former, stern and arrogant, looked around the tiny house where MC had lived for the past six years with the woman who had taken her in after her parents' deaths. He didn't even bother hiding his obvious displeasure infront of MC and the older woman.
Professor Fig, on the other hand, greeted her with a gentle smile. Older and far kinder than Black, he patiently explained everything, answering every question she had and doing his best to make the overwhelming situation feel a little less frightening for her.
The next day, MC arrived at Hogwarts with Professor Fig by her side. They had spent the entire morning purchasing almost everything she would need for school, mainly the books and her pet. Fortunately, Hogwarts had generously offered to cover all the expenses given the situation.
Many expected a girl raised among muggles to be extremely terrified, but MC wasn't like that.
She wasn't even frightened when the sorting hat began rambling to itself before finally deciding which house she belonged in. Just extremely curious.
After all, it's not like you met a talking hat every day, right?
She was the kind of person who could walk into a room full of strangers and somehow make everyone else feel comfortable.
She smiled at the portraits even when they were rude and greeted the house elves that passed by.
Every new spell filled her with the same excitement as a child receiving their very first toy. She was using a borrowed wand for the time being.
By her second day, she had even found time to teach Deek a few muggle knitting techniques for making warm socks. Deek was delighted to have found a new friend in MC and was genuinely excited to learn how to create things without relying on his magic.
Perhaps that was why Sebastian Sallow became curious about her so quickly.
Sebastian: Do you realize you're the only person who actually seems to be enjoying being here, right? — Sebastian asked during her first week as they wandered through the castle corridors. — You don't have to pretend none of this is overwhelming. It's perfectly normal to be scared. I still dread Potions with Professor Sharp. I'm convinced he hates me.
MC let out a soft laugh.
MC: I really do think it's all fascinating, Sebastian — she replied — Besides, all the professors have been helping me so much, even Professor Sharp.
Sebastian tilted his head, looking at her with his eyes half closed.
Sebastian: You're... peculiar, you know that?
She placed a hand over her chest in mock offense.
MC: Are you calling me weird?
Sebastian: I'm saying you're weird in an interesting way — A grin spread across his face — You won't find anything in this old castle that's as intriguing as you are. It seems that you're this year's biggest novelty.
MC laughed harder this time.
MC: I bet the restricted section of the library is far more interesting than I am. I hope I'll get to see it someday.
And Sebastian, being Sebastian, decided that was reason enough to include her in everything.
In his conversations, his adventures, his plans...
Even his secrets.
There was, however, one person who was far less enthusiastic.
Ominis Gaunt. Sebastian's closest friend.
From the very beginning, MC had tried to get to know him.
Not because she knew anything about his family.
Not because she knew what he had been through.
Not because she pitied the "poor blind boy".
Simply because she had noticed something in him that no one else seemed to see.
On her very first day at Hogwarts, a seventh year student had warned her after dinner in the Great Hall:
"If you're going to be friends with Sallow, I'd stay away from Gaunt if I were you. I doubt he'd like your company anyways, considering your blood status. He's unpleasant. Runs in the family I guess."
But that wasn't what MC saw.
She noticed how Ominis always seemed ready to defend himself against threats that hadn't even appeared yet.
How he kept everyone at exactly the same distance... Everyone except Sebastian.
As though allowing someone too close would only give them another opportunity to hurt him or pry into things he wasn't ready to share.
The first time she tried speaking to him was in the library.
At the sound of her voice, Ominis barely lifted his head.
Ominis: Do you need something? — he asked — I'm studying.
His voice tone was cold enough to make her blink a few times.
MC: I just wanted to introduce myself. I am-
Ominis: I already know who you are.
A brief pause.
Ominis: You don't need to introduce yourself again.
MC hesitated.
MC: Oh... I...
Ominis: you're that new student.
MC: yeah...
Silence.
She offered him a small, awkward smile.
"That new student". He hadn't even called her by her name.
For a moment, she felt completely out of place, as though she'd only make him uncomfortable by being there.
MC: Well... I guess I'll see you in class.
Ominis said nothing. Not even a small sound.
His wand continued gliding just above the pages of the book in front of him as if the conversation had never happened.
So she quietly walked away.
Oddly enough, she wasn't upset.
Her only thought was: "he seems hurt".
Not the kind of wound anyone could see...
The kind you could only feel or sense.
She didn't know what he was thinking.
She didn't know what had happened to him.
But something about Ominis made her want to prove that she meant him no harm.
The problem was...he had no interest in letting anyone prove anything to him. Especially her.
Toward the end of her first week at Hogwarts, on Friday, Sebastian decided to take her to the Undercroft.
Ominis's answer came immediately.
Ominis: No.
Sebastian frowned.
Sebastian: No what?
Ominis: She can't come in here — he said while pointing his wand somewhere near MC.
MC stopped beside the hidden entrance.
Sebastian: why not? — he asked.
Ominis clenched his jaw.
Ominis: Because she can't.
Sebastian: Come on, Omin-
Ominis: NO, Sebastian. You know what this place means.
His voice was calm, but firm.
Ominis: I don't want anyone else involved. Enough people already know. Last year you brought Natsai and Poppy. Then, Leander and Garreth. I didn't object because we've known them for years and I was cool with that after a while, even if this meant to be a pleace just for Anne, for you and for me.
His expression hardened this time.
Ominis: But this is where I draw the line. A stranger isn't coming in here. This is not Hogsmeade.
MC lowered her gaze. Not because she was angry or sad, but because she understood. Even if it stung a bit.
Watching them argue because of her made her feel even worse.
MC: It's okay — she said gently — Really. I'll go. I never wanted to make you uncomfortable, Ominis.
That, more than anything else, was what unsettled him.
She didn't argue. She didn't complain. She didn't try to convince him.
She simply accepted his decision and left.
Ominis wasn't used to that.
He was used to people demanding things. Pushing. Whining until they got their way.
He hadn't expected someone who would simply respect his boundaries that easy.
As the days passed, Sebastian managed to persuade him to certain things.
MC could stay nearby. She could accompany them. Sit with them at the Great Hall. But Ominis never let the invisible wall between them disappear.
He was polite. Never warm, but never rude. Just distant.
And, of course, she still wasn't allowed into the Undercroft. Not yet.
>>>>>
As the days went by, MC found herself looking for Ominis without even realizing it.
Every glimpse of him filled her stomach with butterflies. Why did it feel as though some invisible force kept pulling her toward him little by little?
More often than not, she didn't even notice how long she had been staring at him.
She had caught herself ignoring Sebastian mid-conversation more than once, as well as her new roommate and friend, Poppy Sweeting, just because Ominis happened to be nearby.
She liked how he always seemed to know more than he let on.
How he pretended to be annoyed whenever Sebastian came up with another reckless idea.
How he, despite all his complaints, always ended up "helping" anyway.
How he tried so hard to hide the fact that he possessed one of the kindest hearts she had ever known.
MC knew she shouldn't get her hopes up. She knew Ominis didn't see her the same way. As far as he was concerned, she wasn't even someone he trusted.
BUT
There were tiny little moments she treasured as though they were priceless.
Like the day she stumbled on one of the castle staircases while they were hurrying to Professor Hecat's class after lunch.
Before she could catch herself, Ominis had already reached out and steadied her holding her by the lower back. He somehow sensed her almost falling down.
Ominis: Careful — he said flatly — Unlike mine, your eyes actually work. You should use them.
It sounded like one of his usual dry remarks with a light touch of humor.
But MC smiled for the rest of the day.
Because, for just a single second, he had forgotten he was supposed to keep her at a distance.
What you need to know before reading "Ashes and silver" my first Ominis x MC story (so you won´t get confused):
🌼Ominis, MC, Sebastian, and their classmates will be in their sixth year rather than their fifth, as they are in the game.
🌼MC's Hogwarts house is never specified, so I took the liberty of changing a few details:
>>Rooms are shared by two students, and students from different houses are allowed to share a room as long as they are in the same year.
>>There aren't four common rooms. There is only one shared common room for all the houses, from which all the dormitories can be accessed. However, each house has its own private meeting area elsewhere in Hogwarts. I chose this approach because some "scenes" take place in the common room with certain characters. This way, regardless of your house, it makes sense for students from different houses to be there together.
>>Also, I originally wrote this story a little over two years ago just for myself, and it was never intended to be published. Since my own house is Ravenclaw but I wanted my MC to share a room with Poppy, this change also made sense to me.
🌼In this story, MC is a girl. However, I'm open to writing stories with a male protagonist or using gender-neutral language. Even though I'm not very used to writing that way, I'd be more than happy to do so.
🌼There will be a few original characters created by me, but there aren't many of them, and they won't appear very often. I've also changed or invented some details about certain canon characters, for example, Ominis's siblings.
🌼Anne Sallow is attending Hogwarts in this story 'cause I was heartbroken after ending my Hogwart Legacy first play and needed to picture her there.
🌼I'll include content warnings at the beginning of chapters whenever necessary. If you feel I've missed any important warnings or haven't labeled them correctly, please don't hesitate to let me know, and I'll gladly fix it.
🌼For the cover, I designed the concept myself on paper and used AI-assisted tools on APPs like Canva to help bring it to life, since I don't have the talent or the resources to create something as amazing as the covers I often see here🥹 I wanted to mention this for the sake of transparency.
🌼There is also the Spanish version of this story. I still make mistakes in English, so please, bare with me🙏🏻.
🌼If you have any suggestions in Spanish, English, German, or Korean, feel free to ask!
