@thepurpman
did i really just come back to this blog just to fanboy about analogical? yes tf i did.
this is the second Remus has legit just been around solely to urge one of the others to be honest with themselves
Bringing back my skater sides au to say that Virgil as an artistic roller skater and Logan as a figure skater would argue about it and they love each other.Â
that is all.Â
So I got a message awhile backâvery polite, and Iâm not gonna share any urls, donât worryâasking about why this fandom seems to argue so much.
And I did my best to answer that question, and I thought Iâd post my answer here too, because I sense this question a lot. Sometimes spoken, sometimes unspoken, but there:Â âWhy is the fandom arguing so much? It used to be so nice.â
And I guess I can see part of the point. Return of the Jam did prompt a new wave of discussion. Thereâs been a lot more criticism recently in some circles. As the fandom grows and shifts, so does discussion, and that can make it seem like these issues came out of nowhere.
But a lot of these issues arenât new. Iâve seen a lot of arguing in my time in the fandom. And some of it has been pointless, but some has been holding creators and people accountable. Ignoring issues like racism, the lack of epilepsy warnings, the animators getting stiffed, etc? It just allows people to continue hurting others without any repercussions.
Fandoms will always squabble, and fandoms will always be flawed. Creators will be flawed. Itâs impossible to find a piece of media, or a person, completely incapable of being criticized. So criticism continues to happenâand itâs an important part of improving ourselves and others.
Yes, thereâs often something controversial every month. Because these things have root issues! Theyâre steeped in ableism, racism, transphobia, and purity culture. They arenât the type of issues you can get a one-stop fix for. And by dealing with each issue as it comes, we continue to examine whatâs at the root.
These issues arenât isolated. They arenât individual things we get angry about for fun. Theyâre symptoms of larger, systemic issues that we work to dismantle. Through holding creators accountable, we hold ourselves accountable, and examine the biases that we are all given by society. And this will happen in any fandom, any community, and any place.
I donât blame anyone for being a bit burnt out by all the discussions, and if youâd like, you can block the #ts criticism tag. But know that this isnât at all a new thing. Debate, discussion, and criticism is an important part of any community. It canât be a safe space if itâs not safe for anyone to speak their mind, even if they donât phrase it very politely.
I think itâs a good thing that discussion is happening, and that people get support, and people are protected from being hurt. I see change in this fandom every day and it makes me smile. And I also see how far we have to goâbecause again, thereâs not an easy fix for most of this stuff. Itâs an endless journey of improvement.
Arguing can be tough. I get it. But if this fandom had no arguments, Iâd see more of a problem.
People disagree. People are hurt. People criticize. Iâd much rather have a place where those people can raise their concerns, than an isolated bubble where nobody is allowed to speak. A safe space with no safety for discussion isnât safe at all. Itâs just silent.
TLDR: Why does the fandom argue so much? Because we have things to argue about. And because nobody should ever be silenced.
(Reblogs are okay and additions are encouraged!)
It also should be noted that a lot of the reason people are arguing now is because people are getting more fed up as time goes on and people are feeling safer to voice their complaints
This fandom has a maaassive problem with toxic positivity and hero worship. Being vocally critical of Thomas will get you an inbox fill of everything from demands that you leave the fandom to being told youâre an awful person who needs to die
A lot of people didnât feel safe to say anything at all until the unpopular opinion blogs started coming out, a look through any of their pages will show you how this fandom handles people doing anything short of kissing the ground Thomas walks on
Every time you bring up Ableism itâs âHow dare you! Thomas is the most inclusive creator ever! He would never do anything ableist! Youâre the ableist one because heâs probably adhd!â
Every time you bring up Racism itâs âStop being so nitpicky! You just hate Thomas and want to start drama! He could never be racist, heâs friends with Leo and Gavin!â
Every time you bring up Storytime Madlibs itâs âItâs their fault for being exploited, they signed the contract! So what if theyâre all really young inexperienced artists who were overworked, misdirected, and not even credited right? Besides, Thomasâ company is really small, you canât expect them to fairly pay the people they hire! What, you think Thomas should go broke trying to actually pay the people he chose to hire? He has no money! â
(Which is ironic bc the same crowd will say you want Thomas to starve if you criticize the patreon, so I guess artists only deserve to be paid for their work if itâs Thomas)
Honestly the worst thing thatâs happened to this fandom is its reputation as a âniceâ fandom. You see it less now, but the reason to things were so âniceâ back then is because we Ba Sing Seâd everything. âThereâs no fighting here! Weâre the nice ones, so stop voicing your opinion if it isnât nice, okay?â
And everything thatâs happened over the years has been building up and building up and building up and itâs coming to a head because we just canât take anymore, especially since episodes are extremely few and far between so that already makes things tense and all we can do is stew in our thoughts
Half the fandom switched to dream smp because thereâs no content. A lot of us are still here because itâs a hyperfixation/special interest we canât shake and weâre only invested in one character arc thatâs been teased for years but never explored
Tldr: itâs not new, weâre just open about our complaining now. The fandom has always had a toxic positivity problem and that scares people out of being honest

thatâs it thatâs all I have to sayÂ
what the fuck do you mean "April isn't the 3rd month of the year"
January February March April May June July August September October November December
See itâs the th-
wait a minute
wait a damn minute
April just feels like a "three" word doesn't it
the months have the name Jason in them...Â
Thank you for the explanation! I sorta understand ableism as a concept but I still struggle in recognizing it sometimes, especially through text posts. (Yay for poor schooling plus autism!)
No worriesÂ
also I feel ya on the poor schooling thing tbh >_<
So...I like following you and donât wanna get blocked for asking this, but I can kinda understand where that bitchy anon was getting at? I genuinely donât understand how itâs ableism, and Iâm sorry for that, but if youâd like me to ask elsewhere I can. I just figured Iâd start with you cause I saw it here first?
No worries, youâre good.Â
Thomas was addressing the fans who were upset by his usage of the word infodumping, which is a word that isnât in itself offensive, but is a word neurotypical people kinda like to use with negative connotations. I tagged the post as ableism because that was the issue he was addressing and I didnât want the people following me to be caught off guard in case the situation actually DID bother them.Â
I made the comment I did because I donât like it when people try to âgive contextâ while theyâre apologizing for something because in my eyes thatâs lowkey patronizing whether I believe that the thing someone was apologizing for was something that needed to be apologized for is irrelevant.Â
From what Iâm understanding about this
Asshole anon: thatâs not ableism because Iâm the ableist one around here!
Yeah pretty much. They shouldnât have come here if they werenât expecting anger, thatâs like 80% of my emotions here.Â
Lmao still answered it tho.
g o o d b y e n o w ^_^
Anyway, donât come into peoples spaces being shitty, and then try to turn it on them when they get mad. I already wasnât in a good fucking mood. YOU came HERE donât try and pull âIâm enjoying thisâ when youâre the one who started poking. fucking jerk.
Youâre the one taking time to answer me tho? Like...if Iâm pissing you off so badly then delete this. Ignore it? Clearly something more is bothering you if youâre putting so much effort into yelling at someone whoâs clearly enjoying this.
GOODBYE NOWÂ
Donât want anon? Turn it off. And yeah...someone using a term that isnât ~exclusive~ to ND individuals being forced to apologize because a crying pissbaby decided to be offended? Not ableism.
And why you in a mood? Whatâs got your panties in such a twist that two (three?) anonymous messages to a fan blog got you wanting to kill someone?
Anyway like I was saying, either get off anon so I can block you, or go away because you are a piece of shit and I have no time for the likes of people who go into peoples ask boxes to be petty for no good reason. I donât have to explain myself to the likes of YOU, and I sure as fuck donât have to argue with you about nothing.
Goodbye now ^_^
No please, if itâs ableism do explain. And I have no feelings other than spite, so try me â€ïž
I fucking tagged it as ableism because the issue he was addressing IN THE POST was ableism. I sure as fuck didnât tag it that way for your benefit, and Iâm also not changing it so FUCK OFF, GET THE FUCK OUT OF MY GODDAMN ASK BOX, DO SOMETHING ELSE WITH YOUR LIFE BESIDES BOTHERING ME ABOUT YOUR FAKE SPITE BULLSHIT YOU ABSOLUTE PIECE OF SHIT AND GO BE A FUCKING THORN IN SOMEONE ELSEâS FUCKING SIDE! Â
LEAVE. ME. THE. FUCK. ALONE.
PLEASE donât start with me, Iâm not in the mood and I WILL hurt your feelings.Â
