big boots
man-o-war. before spectre, radiohead was asked to do the james bond theme in the late 90s, around ok computer. in 1998, as seen in meeting people is easy, they slaved over big boots for the film. but never got it right.
the first and fourth time i met thom yorke, all i could muster-up and ask was whether the band will ever release big boots. both times he’s grinned and told me “that’s a good idea mate”
one of the times, during the in rainbows world tour, he expanded by saying how they were going through old tapes and dug up the track. they enjoyed it, and were working on finding a version that worked.
then TKOL came, but i could already tell when thom was teasing lotus flower live that this wasn’t going to be the album.
now, as lp9 approaches, my decade-spanning eagerness has wrought me with joy & anxiety. entertaining the tracklist is probably the best thing about this period of LP9 anticipation that we’re all suffering from. the prospect of big boots is my favorite part.
When I met Thom in 2011 I asked him about Big Boots. He said the James Bond people were assholes (which makes me wonder why they ever agreed to work with them again last year!) and I begged him to release the song anyway. I got the same sly smile.
Anybody notice the change in placement of Thom’s rings since his separation? He used to wear the same two rings, but on different hands. For many, many years. Recently he has been wearing them on the same finger (with the rings together) every time he is seen. I’ve noticed this ever since his separation. Must have a significance!
Yorke said he only listens to old Radiohead songs when preparing to perform them live. He said of his reaction to hearing this material, 'Who the hell are these people? Was I really like this? I don’t totally remember doing all of this.'

The best concert I've ever seen in my life was Neil Young, in 2008, at the Hammersmith Appolo in London. The first two hours, it was just him on stage with his piano and all his acoustic guitars around tuned differently. He hadn't written a setlist. He just went on stage and decided that he was going to play according to the mood of the moment. That was something." (Could Thom try the same thing?) "I could try but I don't have confidence in my memory. I have problems remembering the words of my songs.

My Hail to the Thief slide viewer in action :)
Finally got my Hail to the Thief slide viewer. Been wanting this one for years!
Jonny acknowledges that LP9 is overdue.
Rag & Bone sent its s/s 2016 collection down the runway to an original soundtrack entitled 'Villain', composed by Thom Yorke. A friend and regular collaborator of the label's, Yorke's haunting melody featured the choral talents of 12 members of the Brooklyn Youth Chorus - a collective comprised of students from over 200 schools in New York City.
Thom Yorke’s legal signature. It’s from his marriage certificate (2003). It’s of particular interest since he always denied being married, and the certificate is proof. I don’t know why he would deny it. It is a matter of public record. Anyway I thought this would be interesting, his official signature is so different from the way he signs autographs!
