Interview with The Landlord
001. Describe your childhood and your relationship with your family.
“Normal I’d say. My mother owns her own preschool and my father works as a teacher,” she mused, the hint of a smile tugging at the corner of her lips. “Sure, going to the same school my father worked caused some problems. We fought a lot during that time. As I’m sure any teenager does at that age, regardless of whether they have a parent teaching them or not.” The smile only widened. Her childhood hadn’t exactly been normal, albeit not by her parents fault. They could hardly been blamed for the affair she had with her teacher, one of her father’s co-workers, for nearly a year. “Either way, my mother owned her own preschool and as such we were very close when I was a child. I would visit her group even when I wasn’t supposed to but I don’t think she minded much. My father on the other hand.. when you have your father for a teacher, things tend to get a little tricky. He never knew how to keep school and home separate and we fought a lot as I went through my teenage years. It’s slightly better now, we call a lot and I visit every once in a while. Not as often any more though now that I left the Netherlands.”
002. Are there any points in your life that changed you as a person?
It was a tricky question. Although only twenty three, there were a lot of things that changed her. Most notoriously her infamous affair. “When I got out of High School I didn’t know what university to enlist in. So I decided to take a gap year. I spend a year travelling through Europe, trying to ‘find myself.’ I was certain that by the end of the year, I would know what to do with my life.” Which she did. Even if her talents, if you could even call them that, were rather unconventional. “-but I didn’t. So I decided to take another year off, then two years turned to three, four, and suddenly it’s five years later and I’m sitting here. It’s safe to say that, that decision, made me the person I am today. If I hadn’t made it, I probably would still be in the Netherlands, studying to get my degree at some university. I don’t think that would have made my life as interesting as it is right now.”
003. How do you believe people generally perceive you?
“During my travels I’ve met a lot of lovely people. A fair share of them offered me a place to stay or a ride whenever needed. I like to think I’m perceived well by people..” Perhaps too well. “-as to this day, someone yet has to turn me down.” After all, she would simply look at them, smile, possibly stroke their arm, and they’d be smitten.
004. What are your expectations and plans for your new life in The Ragnatela and/or the future in general?
“I expect it to be a whole new adventure.” She smirked, inevitably betraying that there may be something more at play. “As for my future, I don’t think too much about it. Not getting too infested in the future has gotten me plenty already. Although I wouldn’t mind to meet some nice gentleman, let him sweep me off my feet as we gallop into the sunset together.”
005. Why have you moved from your previous home to The Ragnatela?
“After travelling for the past five years I got bored with Europe.” Bored meaning it was partially in her best interest to leave the continent. “I was looking for a fresh start, and The Ragnatela contacted me around the same time I was looking for housing options. It turned out to be the perfect solution.”
006. What are your housing preferences? Would you prefer to live alone or with a roommate?
“Although I like the presence of others, I do appreciate my privacy. Hence why, as soon as I got your letter I requested a loft.”
