Despite her best efforts to keep the air of ‘forced calm’ about her, it was nigh impossible to hide the excited glint in her green eyesthat batted closed every time the blade gingerly tapped against theside of her face. It was a struggle to not keep her gaze fixated on it, darting back and forth between it and the infamous man before her.
“W-Well,” her voice quivered; the only real part of her so-calledact. “My name’s Mallory M—Hale. Mallory Hale. And-And like I said before, sir… I reckon I just got lost. I-I didn’t exactly…exactly plan on coming across you. Ever.”
“Didn’t exactly plan on it, eh?” Perhaps he was being paranoid, but he didn’t trust her for a second. He loosened his grip on her, the knife sliding down to tap at her cheek with a slow rhythm. “Well, darlin’, y’put me in a bit of a precarious situation. Man like me, I can’ just let y’go runnin’ back upstairs t’tell now, can I?” He moved in close, looking down his nose at her with the hint of a smile. “Got t’know y’can keep a secret, d’ye know what I mean?” Got to make sure no one would listen, more like.
She knew men who lied, and cheated, and made excuses. Andrew Ryan was all of that, and more. Atlas- Atlas was different. Maybe he didn’t want to tell her the truth, because he didn’t trust her enough yet. But if he wanted to keep callin’ her beautiful, keep hurtin’ her that way… her hand covered his, pulling it away.
“Who were ya’ after, Atlas?” she didn’t mean for her voice to be so rough, “I want t’ know why ya’ had t’ do somethin’ so terrible.”
“Ryan,” he said simply, and it was true. “Men like that only respond t’violence, t’somethin’ they love being--” he took hold of the hand that had pulled his away, making circles in her palm with his thumb, “taken away from them. T’was th’spark t’set the revolution ablaze, t’wasn’t nothing--” He looked at her with those clear blue eyes, tracing every inch of her face. “t’wasn’t nothing personal,” he echoed hoarsely. He lied.

“It’s too late to play the good guy. It’s far too late.” [welp]
“That so, sweetheart?” The words stung; for some reason he’d thought he had a better opinion of him than that. The emotion tucked in the wrinkle of his nose was hard to name– it was somewhere between rage and misery. “Well there’s plenty a’time for me t’become the villain.”
Hector clenched his teeth. “We had a deal.”
“You think I give a fuck if we had a deal?” The look of amusement on Fontaine’s face is starting to turn cruel, his lips curling into what was more sneer than smile.
“It’s every man for himself down here, bucko,” he slapped him on the back good-naturedly, although there was nothing good-natured about him. “You wanna stay on top, you’re gonna have to fuck someone.”
“It’s okay, it’s better this way.”
“Is that right?” He all but purred, a finger tracing the ragged edge of the ruined dress. He was very close, and he made sure that she could feel the heat of his breath as he leaned even closer.
“Perhaps I could help y’improve’t even more.”
replies to one draft: I'm on fire tonight.
“Have you ever just wanted to just take something back? You know, something you said? Something you did?”
Of course he had. A man didn’t shuffle through this many lives without fucking something up. But that wasn’t the right answer, that wasn’t Atlas’ answer. “T’ain’t no point in regret, lass. Only thin y’can do, is do’t better th’next time ‘round.”
Oddly enough, he meant it.
“You’ll never have me… ever.”
There was a terrible look in his eye, a terrible moment where every bit of him that was blood and rot shone through, twisting in the wrinkle of his sneer. A single look, and then he blinked and it was gone. The hand on her cheek slipped sideways, back, to stroke her hair. His look was all innocence, the hate carefully stowed away behind gentle touches and kind smiles.
“We’ll see about that,” he said softly, through a carefully forced smile, “..pet”
She stared at him knowingly. “Do you want to get out of here or not, mister Atlas? Because I’m two seconds away from leaving without you.”
He narrowed his eyes, anger bubbling below that friendly irish accent. “course I do,” he said slowly. She had him in a corner, in a way. He had to agree, or risk losing this chance at getting out, but he couldn’t seem too eager to escape or she might-- well, if it came to that, he could probably take her in a fight.
“We had a deal.”
“Aye, we did,” he agreed, nodding amiably.
Still nodding, he rose, glass crunching beneath his loafers. The smile that had been tickling at his cheeks split, and the grin spread across his face.
“And now.. we don’t.” He shrugged, turning to leave.

“We had a deal.”
“You have all the weapons you need. Now fight!”
“If you don’t stand for something, you’ll fall for anything.”
“We don’t keep things here that have no purpose.”
“For those who fight for it, life has a flavor the sheltered will never know.”
“I want you to dance.”
“You’ll never have me… ever.”
“Your fight for survival starts right now.”
“I’m sorry, I didn’t mean to say anything!”
“Let the pain go. Let the hurt go. Let the guilt go.”
“Don’t ever write a check with your mouth you can’t cash with your ass.”
“I’m the star of the show, remember?”
“This can’t be. We did everything right.”
“We’re already dead.”
“I’m willing to give you freedom. Pure and total freedom.”
“He/she said everything would be okay.”
“I’m only doing this because you guys would get caught without me.”
“You have to live for all of us now.”
“You think you’re special, don’t you?”
“This was never my story. It’s yours.”
“I have seen some tortured souls in here.”
“Shut off that damn music!”
“All I require from you is a slither of a moment.”
“You’re suddenly not aware of what it is we do here?”
“It’s just us now.”
“Have you ever just wanted to just take something back? You know, something you said? Something you did?”
“Don’t close your eyes; I need you to look at me.”
“Send me a postcard from paradise.”
“You’ve got to promise me two things.”
“Oh, and one more thing…”
“It’s okay, it’s better this way.”
“You don’t want to be judged? You won’t be.”
“There is a way to fix anything.”
“If I say it’s over, we stop.”
“You simple inbred idiot!”
“Did you lose your fight, huh?”
“The dance should be more than just titillation.”
“What you’re imagining right now, that world you control? That place can be as real as any pain.”
“I’m gonna escape from here.”
“Don’t worry, I don’t bite very hard.”
“Kiss the neck. It works every time!”
“You’re the only one of us who ever had a chance out there.”
“Now listen, I’m gonna walk out there and when they come after me, you go, okay?”
“It’s too late to play the good guy. It’s far too late.”
Colin Farrell
She bit her lip, hands tugging gently on her hair to push the golden locks in front of the scars. “I think I’m pretty-” it was a lie, a bad one. “I still got all my hair, and my-” Ryan had always liked her body, “- my personality. It’s just m’ face that got ruined.” she let out a shakey breath, “Why’d you- why’d you blow up the Kashmir? Weren’t nobody important there.”
“Nobody important?” He made his face look pitying, although there was disgust in his mouth. No way she was that innocent, that unassuming. He hated being played, and he hated playing along. He ignored the question, brushing his thumb gently across her cheek. “Y’ve got a lovely face,” he said firmly, his gaze intense. “t’migh’ be a touch different than t’were before, but well, aren’t you?” “You’re beautiful,” he said again, firmly, and it was important that she believe it.

A breath shuddered and hitched deep in her throat as an icy shiver surged through her spine, coursing clear to the tips of her calloused and painted fingertips – not from the glimpse of the blade from the corner of her eye, no, but instead from the deceivingly ginger touch that graced the side of her face. She took a moment, and only a moment, to pry her gaze away from the knife and to the man’s face. Never had she been good with faces, but… “I’ve a hunch,” she practically whispered as dilated eyes trailed and scanned his features. It was then that a small, but ever so lightly quivering smile tugged at the corner of her red-pained lips. “You’re in the posters, aren’t you? Atlas, was it?”
He grinned harmlessly at her, ever a man of smiles. Or, in any case, as harmlessly as he could, with the blade of his knife kissing her cheekbone like this. He looked her over, the smile hardening into a sneer. “That’s right,” he purred, his loose grip on the handle of the blade letting it tickle back and forth along her skin like a pendulum. “An’ that jus’ leaves th’question of who you are.” He looked at her darkly, even the sneer fading now. “An’ how ye found me.”
