Sex (1992) by Steven Meisel
it's so insane that so many gay and bi people just accepted the queer label and now people will ask "are you queer?" like that's normal lmao. now straight people say it like it's nothing it's CRAZYYY imagine any other group being bullied into doing this.
cus gay men are underemployed and underpaid and we face unemployment at a higher rate and work discrimination. Even more precarious when the field you work in pretty much demands of you to be closeted or you’d face direct discrimination if not worse
There’s really no way for gay men to talk about how our maleness is part of our oppression without someone (you know the type) deliberately misrepresenting our words and going “so you think you’re oppressed for being men???” Like. No. That’s not what we’re saying. But by inserting yourself in a Gay Male conversation and shutting it down you’ve signaled to us that you aren’t interested in discussing this in good faith which is why we’d rather not entertain your opinion at all.
the thing is, yes we are oppressed for being men.
like you can’t separate gay from men or men from gay cus they’re our identity. homophobes hate the fact that we’re men and gay, they’re not mutually exclusive. Im tired of feminists using their logic for straight men and pushing it onto us, do yall really think the male gaze isn’t reductive and heteronormative. Gay men are targeted for being GAY MEN, if anything we got it worse cus we’re men.
Its weird that when radtards talk about the women transitioning its always painted as victims and under the falsehood of good faith cus they’re all oppressed by misogyny and thats their way of escaping it but when gay men do it they’re just pervy coomers. The world is hostile to us also cus we’re the natural born antithesis of both patriarchy and matriachy cus they both rely on heterosupremacy to structure themselves.
The fact that people in bad faith won’t want to get that shows they don’t want to understand others and the general dynamics and just want to be rightful victims.
It’s very funny how far removed the tumblr understanding of Stonewall is from the actual truth. It’s like Arthurian legend where new authors just keep adding new events and characters and eventually it gets accepted as canon until there’s really nothing in common with the actual historical events.
i hate those short form feminist historian cus they will cover anything positive to prop themselves up and do the whole girl power thing but won’t ever cover all the bad things the women they’re covering did.
Quatrefoil: A Modern Novel (1950) by James Barr Quatrefoil: A Modern Novel, sometimes called Quatrefoil, is a novel about gay men written in 1950 by James W. Fugaté under the pen name James Barr. It is known for being the first modern book to portray homosexuality in a positive way. The main character, Phillip, is based on a college fraternity brother that the author had an affair with while in college. Its initial release was accompanied by a marketing campaign which included distribution of free copies to more than seventy-five gay bars in the United States and Canada. It was rumored to have outsold Gore Vidal's The City and the Pillar and Truman Capote's Other Voices, Other Rooms, two other prominent gay-themed novels of the time. (Source:Wikipedia)

Happy Birthday, Anthony Boyle!
“I grew up seeing men performing in bars, and so acting never felt like an unmasculine thing. It felt very, very normal. Even though most men around me were boxers and footballers, I was never discouraged from it or bullied for it. There was no shame about it. It was a cool thing to do.” — Anthony Boyle for Man About Town
