I love a good Before and After pic, especially this one that was at first devastating on Xmas morning 2009 and then brought pride, JOBS, community spirit and determination. St Mel's Cathedral in my home town Longford Ireland rose from the ashes like a Phoenix. It's where I was christened, confirmed, waited outside to chat up boys and meet my friends :) and where I will be married next year. It's not just a place of worship, it is a community CIVIL space. Built during the famine as a way of giving payment of bread, and rebuilt during the recession and gave jobs. Please vote for this resilient building to win another architectural award.
