Coming into a fandom late
Coming into a fandom early and watching it become an angry clusterfuck
Being in a dormant fandom that suddenly comes alive again after a new book/movie
Don’t forget about those who come in the midst of a fandom war.
Accuracy at its best
Being in a fandom and not even knowing there’s a war going on…
all of this shit…lol
When You’re Not In The Fandom But You’re Nosy AF
When you get into a fandom only to discover it’s dead
This gets better every time I see it.
@fuboos-mess
Being in a dead fandom…
Or being in such a tiny fandom that it feels like youre the only one
The accuracy hurts.
Being in a fandom that had a shit ending.
When you’ve been fangirling long enough, you’ve experienced all of the above.
Being in a fandom meant for kids.
This just gets better..
@mi-kleos
When you realize that joining the fandom has ruined you
Fandom hell in general
Yes.
This^^^ just… ALL OF THIS.
Being in so many fandoms that you don’t even know what’s going on
THIS IS THE SKULDUGGERY FUCKING PLEASANT FANDOM IN ONE POST!!
Trying to recruit people to your fandom
Annnnnnndddd it’s back
Being in a fandom which has so many antis
I’ve probably reblogged this before, but that was before these great additions.
Being in a fandom that actually works together
Why is this so true? All of it.
being in a fanbase but all your mutuals suddenly turn into Kpop blogs
I always enjoy it when a good post comes around again and has been improved by the reblogs like the years for a fine wine.
Being in a fandom when shit goes down and everyone has different opinions
When you are in a fandom and don’t care for others people opinion…..even if they are right…(believe me, I have met several of those)
Being in a fandom you never meant to join
I love this. and it’s gotten better
After abandoning a fandom you’re still a little bit emotionally invested in….
All of these are me. Lol
Being in a fandom on Tumblr
And it reached its epic conclusion
I CHOKED ON FUNDIP
HISTORY HAS BEEN ENGRAVED INTO THIS POST
Duo loves hugs.
Wufei doesn’t.
ok so this is another long shot but a few years ago there was a twitter post (in japanese i think?) that had measurememts for how to make this book stand thing out of cardboard that you could use to double up books and use up more space on shelves
back then i made a bunch of these but by now i lost the pic and dont know how to find the original post anymore
if it comes down to it i can just take one apart and get the measurements from there but i would be very grateful if anyone happens to have the original post or something similar??
don't mind how long it's been since i made this post, anyway i realized that i don't even need to take one apart to get the measurements when i can literally just unfold it and refold it /FACEPALM
so anyway here is the diagram for anyone else who is interested!!
this requires pretty big carboard pieces, if you have a really big box or something you can make it from one piece, but if you don't, you can also just make each of the pieces individually and then tape them together
and then in the end you put it together like this!!
and then when you make a bunch you can put them all next to each other and stack your books like crazy
EVERYONE START GETTING MORE USE OUT OF YOUR SPACE NOW!!!!
i absolutely love this but also i just spent a lot of money on ikea shelves and carefully got extra/spare shelves such that i can have all the shelves be too short for this. but actually this is really clever and i might switch to taller shelves done like this.
Had a shower thought I dropped in a local Gundam discord today as a massive thread, so I figured I would share it here, as one does:

obituary
@jumpingjacktrash, aka Jesse, formerly of Northfield MN, died of complications from a stroke on June 18th, 2025, age 52. He was born in the Twin Cities on August 23rd, 1972, to Sandy and David. He is survived by his spouse Seebs, daughter Katarzyna, father David, brother Matthew, nibling Mika, adoptive sister Leslie, frequent collaborator Rah, many other friends and family, and his cat, Wen Ning, The Doom That Was Foretold, A Surprise Guest. He is predeceased by his first husband Jj, his mother Sandra, and his cat Hermes, He Who Must Smell The Night. He was best known for his writing, with his novel The God Eaters and webcomic Metanoia being his most famous works, but also a bewildering variety of fan fiction spanning genres and fandoms. His active participation in various communities, both in-person and later online, was notable for his thoughtful and patient advice, especially on queer activism, one of the major focuses of his adult life. In addition to more structured activism, he participated in a number of heists which moved queer people from unsafe environments to safer environments, which is how he ended up with his daughter (who met him through his Homestuck fanfiction), his nemesis Luka (whom he smuggled out of Nebraska), his friend Aud (smuggled out of Washington), and many of his other friends and associates. He was cremated, according to his wishes. His memorial service will be on his 53rd birthday (August 23rd, 2025), in Northfield. Given Jesse's many friendships and connections, we ask that those wishing to attend contact Seebs beforehand. All who knew him are welcome to reach out. In lieu of flowers or other gifts, please consider donations or other support (such as volunteering) to help protect those in need. If you want a specific charity suggestion, he was particularly fond of The Bridge For Youth. Feel free to contact Seebs directly if you have questions or comments. We plan to make more of his writing available online as permanently as possible in the future. (I'm probably gonna spin up his laptop to reblog this there for the benefit of people who followed him but not me.)
Jesse Hajicek was one of those humans I truly admired- both for his incredible prose, and the goodness he put out into the world in spades. My heart goes out to his loved ones.
May his memory be a blessing.
Ideas For A Writing Journal
-brainstorming pages for your book, obviously. every writer working on a book needs this.
-vocabulary. go on wattpad, or pinterest, or literally the internet and type writing vocabulary into the search bar. youll get some new words you can use in your book.
-writing challenges/prompts for yourself. pinterest will have these. you can make one for yourself, if you want (ex: write about a girl drowning). these are good practice for writing scenes in your book and in general pretty fun to write when you’re bored. try it out!
-any writing advice you like? stick it in your journal! this will help you when you’re stuck with writing character development or that battle scene that always seems to fall flat.
-OCs. Write little descriptions/analysises of your characters. youll learn to understand them a little better this way.
-cool metaphors! if youre reading a book and see a metaphor you really like/think is interesting/creative, write it down to use in your own book. take inspiration from other writers, people.
-book reviews. when youre finished reading a book, review it with a star rating system and commentary. not only will this allow you to reflect on what youve read and the messages behind it, this will allow you to once again, TAKE INSPIRATION FROM OTHER WRITERS.
-doodles and poems! these may not be what you want to stick in your WRITING journal, but its good to take a break of writing once in a while and do something else creative. you dont have to put this in your writing journal, but you can still do them on a piece of loose paper. you can thank me later.
It's St. Patrick's Day and all anyone wants to talk about is that stupid apocryphal nonsense about snakes.
-sigh- No one ever talks about the werewolves.
Well that was a fair bit of a clamor, wasn't it? 😂
Grab yourself a cuppa and gather round, my darlings. It's storytime.
There are many mentions of wolves and men who turn into them or take on their aspects in Irish folklore. There's the friendly Faoladh or Conriocht, whose mischief is usually limited to stealing laundry from drying lines and pies from windowsills. Some might mention the Fianna or the Luchthonn, who were known to wear disguises and wolfskins during their raids and were even said to howl like beasts to terrify their foes. Others might invoke the name of Laignech Fáelad, the legendary wolf-warrior and brother to one of the early kings of Ossory.
So perhaps it's no coincidence that it's to Ossory that we will be going for our tale.
There's a 12th-century medieval legend attributed to Gerald of Wales that tells of an unnamed priest who encountered a wolf in the forest while traveling. He was terrified, as anyone would be when meeting a hungry beast in the deep dark woods, and he begged the wolf to spare his life. But the wolf spoke to him and said, "Please don't be frightened of me. In the name of God, I mean you no harm."
Naturally, the priest was amazed by this and asked the wolf to explain. The wolf settled back on his haunches and told the priest of a village in Ossory which was cursed by a visiting missionary. When the man brought them the word of God, the villagers would not listen. Instead, they laughed and jeered and howled until the missionary could not hear himself speak.
"So be it!" shouted the missionary, in a rage. "If you will roar and howl at the word of God like beasts, then beasts you shall be!"
From that day forward, every seven years, two people from the village, a man and a woman, would be compelled to leave their homes, assume the shape and habits of wolves, and live in the forest as wild animals, preying on livestock and their former neighbors. At the end of those seven years, if they survived, they would be able to shed their wolfskins and return to civilization, with two others then leaving to take their place.
"My mate," the wolf said, "is terribly sick. I do not think she will live to return to the village. Would you take pity on her and give her last rites, so that her soul may at least be spared?"
Moved by the story, the priest followed the wolf to his dying mate and gave her last rites. The wolf removed part of the pelt covering his mate to reveal an elderly human woman, both to show the truth of his story and to reassure the priest that he had not committed blasphemy. Then the wolf led the priest safely out of the forest, giving him a number of prophecies about the future of the land among the way.
Now, there's some debate as to whether the missionary in this tale is St. Naal / Natalis of Kilkenny or St. Patrick. (The two are sometimes conflated, not least because there is a separate tale of St. Patrick cursing a Welsh king to become a wolf.) Some versions of the tale hold that the say that the villagers spent their lives in a seven year cycle - seven years human, seven years wolf - until the end of the their lives. Other versions say that whole population of the village were turned into wolves and that to this day, their descendants retain the ability to shapeshift between human and animal, if they know the right words to say and can get hold of a wolfskin.
This story follows the template of many medieval tales which show some kind of monstrous transformation being visited upon the sinful or those who refused to convert. It's a popular boogeyman trope - be good and say your prayers or you might be turned into something horrible.
So if you feel so inclined to be rebellious and pagan today, put aside the serpent motifs and raise a glass…and a good long howl. 😁
Pebble and sea glass paintings!
Sometimes I see art and think to myself "You know, that was an excellent use of that person's time." and nod sagely.
To anyone reading their way through a series;
Please know that on the other side of it, there is an author hoping you're enjoying each chapter. Wondering what you thought of that part in chapter 2, or if you picked up on the little nod to the original film or show that inspired it, what it made you feel when you read through that certain scene they poured over for hours, and even what you thought when Character A said x, y, or z to Character B.
We sit with bated breath, hoping you'll leave a comment when you get to the last chapter or that you'll send an ask letting us know what part you loved so much that you can't stop thinking about it.
To all the readers liking their way through a series; please comment if you can, in some way, and give the writers a little spark that they'll treasure.
Since some of you don't seem to understand how this 'new notes' thing works, I'll break it down:
I'm the OP. I'm making this post. If you like, comment, reblog (without comment) on this post, then I'm the one who will see all those notes in my activity page.
However...
If you reblog (with comment), I will get a notification that you did that, but any likes/comments/reblogs (without comment) you get on that reblog will only be shown to you. As OP I won't see them.
If someone adds a reblog (with comment) to your reblog...as OP I won't see that. I won't see any of those notes in my activity page.
Basically, if someone with a large following makes a comment, then they will get all the notes and OP will see nothing. If OP has said something silly because they're, y'know, 21 and it happens, and then someone reblogs it onto the dash of someone with a large following who then dunks on them for fun? OP doesn't see it, doesn't get notes for it, but they're gonna get the harrassment for it in their inbox.
If I, someone with a 5 digit follower count, reblog something to correct misinformation on Ancient Egypt, then OP will never see it unless it was on the original post, but I will continue to get notes on that post even though it's not my post. If I reblog fanart, or just art in general, with a comment like 'Oh this is so lovely!' then OP will not see any of the notes from people reblogging it from me. They'll only see my reblog. So it's possible for an art post by someone else to have 200 notes for them, but 9000 for someone who reblogs it with a comment, and the OP artist will have no idea it's been seen by that many people.
It's killing blow to the community we've built here, by someone higher up who doesn't understand that being able to see all the comments and reblogs is what makes this site the place I keep coming back to.
That's what sucks.
I encourage people to go to tumblr's support page, select contact support, and then in the dropdown menu select 'Feedback' and leave polite and constructive feedback (for those of you who enjoy 'emails worded politely but are a strong 'are you an idiot?', try that way of wording it). They're more likely to listen to you if you're not an asshole about it. I've already gone and done this, and I hope others will too.
Thanks to some very eager fellow citizen scientists, I have now tested the new features pretty thoroughly and can summarise the new system as follows: wow this is dogshit.
Now, as to how it works and the specific implementations of the dogshiticity, here is what I have observed from initial experimentation:
OP will get notified of all reblogs, so far as initial testing has gone. This includes tagged reblogs, commented reblogs, and uncommented-untagged "silent" reblogs. This also continues to include reblogs-of-reblogs. The only place OP will be able to see this is in their activity feed, because there is no longer any single location to see all notes/ reblogs on a post. Nobody else will be able to see ALL reblogs.
OP will get notified of any replies directly to their original post. So if you chatter in the notes of the original, OP will see that.
OP will get notified of any likes directly to their original post.
OP will NOT get notified of any likes to commented subsequent reblogs, as those now form a "new" post. Anyone wishing to leave a like should click the like button on OP's section of a reblogged post, otherwise OP will not know.
OP will NOT get notified of any discussion in the notes on comment-reblogs, as those are discussions on a "new" post.
OP will NOT be able to find any specific reblog chain, because for OP the notes on their post will only ever show the direct-from-OP reblogs and never any subsequent ones.
OP will NOT be able to find anything in their notes, and the Activity Feed is not a reliable place to be able to go hunting for other people's previous reblogs.
OP will NOT be able to turn off reblogging on a post, so there is no way to keep a post contained if it takes off in a way you don't want it to.
Every chain effectively becomes a complete silo, unconnected to any other reblog and only barely connected to the original post.
We will NOT be able to scroll through the notes of a post and look for funny tags or interesting comments, because the notes are now wildly fragmented and there is no central reference point. So it will not be possible to look through the notes and see if a hundred other people have already said that thing you were about to say.
OP will NOT be able to do anything to stop a harassment campaign that fills their activity feed, but also will not be able to find any of it in the notes of their post unless the harassers reblog directly from OP every time. This is a feature which will absolutely be used to harass people.
It is also VERY unhelpful that we don't have language to easily disambiguate "comments" (as in, a reblog that someone added something to, thus creating a new post) and "comments" (non-reblgo chatter that happens in the notes). Not that we can reliably see either of those any more.
So! Now you and I are armed with this valuable knowledge about how the new system works, please go to tumblr's feedback form and explain why this is a series of bad problems that you would like them to stop doing.
The feedback form is available here: https://www.tumblr.com/support
The Death of the Digital Ecosystem: Why Decoupling Notes Destroys Tumblr
@changes (Edit: I already sent this to Tumblr Support under the feedback option. I encourage everyone to send feedback on how bad this feature actually is).
For years, the total note count on a post served as a universal metric of a piece of content's impact. Whether a user liked the original post or a reblog fifteen branches deep, that engagement flowed back to the source. This ensured that the original artist, writer, or editor received the full credit for the viral success of their work.
Under this new system, engagement is trapped within the specific reblog a user happens to see on their dashboard. If a massive, high-traffic blog reblogs a piece of art from a small creator, every like and reblog that occurs through that larger account stays with them. The original creator is left with a stagnant note count on their own dashboard while their work generates thousands of interactions for someone else.
Erasure of Creator Visibility
Instead of seeing one post with 10,000 notes, a creator may now have to hunt through dozens of different reblog chains to find where the conversation is actually happening.
If the notes no longer flow back to the original post, the creator loses the ability to see who is enjoying their work, what the tags say, and how the community is responding.
On a platform where engagement often dictates visibility, splitting that engagement into tiny, unlinked fractions makes it significantly harder for original works to gain momentum compared to the high-reach blogs that reblog them.
Incentivizing the "Big Blog" Monopoly
This system rewards accounts that have already established a large following at the direct expense of the smaller accounts that actually produce the content. It transforms reblogging from a method of sharing into a method of acquisition.
When a reblog functions as its own independent post with its own note count, the incentive to click through to the original source disappears. The platform is transitioning from a collaborative ecosystem into a standard social media feed where the person who posts the content last—not the person who made it—reaps the rewards.
Impact on Collaborative Conversations
Tumblr’s unique culture is built on the reblog chain: a chronological, evolving conversation. By allowing users to like or reblog "any part" of the chain as an independent entity, the platform is breaking the narrative thread.
If engagement is siloed into specific branches, the incentive to add to a conversation is replaced by an incentive to simply own a piece of the engagement. This change doesn't encourage conversation. It encourages the commodification of individual posts within a chain, making it harder for the original voice to ever be heard over the noise of the rebloggers.
The Disincentive to Create
Perhaps the most damaging aspect of this update is the psychological toll on the creative community. When the platform actively diverts credit and engagement away from the source, it destroys the motivation to share original work at all.
For many, the reward for posting is seeing how far their work travels. If that travel is now invisible or attributed to others, the labor of creating becomes thankless.
This system makes creators want to share nothing. If the platform is built to harvest a creator's effort for the benefit of curator blogs, the logical response is to stop providing the raw material. I am one leaning into this category. Without us creators, the curator blogs have nothing to curate.
By making it harder to protect and track one's own work, the platform is effectively telling creators that their presence is secondary to the conversations happening around their work: conversations they may no longer even be able to find.
Gundam Wing: Complete Operation
scans from the artbook-- really gorgeous illustrations
Gundam Wing: Episode Zero Manga
2002 Viz comics English adaptation of the mangaMobile Suit Gundam Wing: Episode Zero. Translated and adapted by Mark Simmons and Lillian Ols
I scanned and uploaded Episode Zero! The only other version that's available on Internet Archive is deep fried to hell and half of it is a re-typed dubious fan translation. Since this is such an important part of GW canon, I felt it my duty to provide a copy that people can actually read! ...And do you know what I discovered? Not only is the English copy of Episode Zero that we're familiar with flipped horizontally from the original, it's been cropped and resized. The Japanese version of Episode Zero is bigger, printed on better paper, and it's gorgeous. It's a work of art. The screen tones are subtle, the lines are crisp, the sound effects don't intrude on the artwork, the panel compositions actually makes sense. Viz did this comic *so* dirty.
Like, imagine the amount of psychic damage flipping one of your drawings horizontally causes-- now imagine drawing a whole comic and having someone flip the entire thing horizontally and cropping it by a few centimeters on all sides. If I were Akira Kanbe I'd have these people tried in the Hague. Anyway, look how beautiful the originals are: (more under the cut)
Thank you so much for your hard work ❤️
