please wear sunscreen!!! I've seen "fuck the beauty industrial complex" posts about complicated skincare regimens and am 100% with them except sometimes they mention sunscreen and no. no. absolutely not. sunscreen is a wonderful supportive friend who wants to keep you safe, and you should let her do it. throw out all your other cosmetics and skincare products if you want, but keep your sunscreen. and if you're not wearing sunscreen, start wearing it!!!! this is not about terror of aging, this is not about every tiny imperfection our fucked-up culture has made you feel insecure about, this is about protecting yourself from skin cancer. wear the damn sunscreen.
Sunscreen is not cosmetic; it is functional.
ᎠᏂ - A'ni - Ahʔnee - Strawberry
Cherokee double wall basket purse - 9 hours
2 & 3 commercial round reed, deer antler button, suede ties, braided macrame cord handles.
Extremely happy with how this turned out, I have seen several different strawberry baskets over the years, both Cherokee and Haudenosaunee, I've admired them all.
The other day I was knitting on the train and someone commented on it so we chatted a bit and then she pulled out a Turkish drop spindle and started spinning. Which was wild and very fun, right?
THEN my aunt was like hey I found some random yarn stuff in a free box do you want it? And the yarn stuff in question is bobbins of silk singles for plying??? So at this point it seems like the universe is conspiring to get me to start spinning!
TdF Day 14
I actually managed to get up in time and spin before work! Both singles spun up and ready for plying.
plying day! If I get both mini skeins and this blellow spin plyed up today, I’ll be at 400g finished yarn for tdf and will have met my stretch goal of spin at least as much as I spun last year (now that I’m right next to the goal I can say it).
And the first mini is plied 😊
Plying the romney/mohair fractal. This wasn’t my most consistent spin ever but it looks like I’ll still get some decent yardage out of it!
definitely not winning any consistency awards for this one 😅
i have bracelet plied too close to the sun
WE DID IT
it was real stressful at the end lemme tell you
yarn 🤩
Came across this art installation, Liza Lou's Kitchen, at the Whitney Museum of American Art, NYC. It's a kitchen made of tiny glass beads, that artist Liza Lou did, taking 5 yrs. to complete, from 1991 - 1996.
My favorite part is the sink.
staying up really late is comforting. the world stops expecting things from you. it’s just quiet for a while.
rebecca black was right. It’s Friday

finally found the official state level alert update - our previous alert expired about an hour and a half ago, but there's a new alert for hazardous air quality extended to Monday. at this point I won't be surprised if it's extended again.
rain! rain! rain!
I'm glad you got rain! that will help A LOT. (RIP local lakes and reservoirs tho) There's been a lot of good posts going around about masks and air filters- but I want to highlight the importance of EYE protection and EYE care!
When you've been in prolonged smoke! you're eyes are very vulnerable. There's a LOT OF PARTICULATES suspended in the air all around you.
wear wrap around glasses or goggles (it's STEAMPUNK!)
avoid contact lenses
do NOT RUB your eyes!
use plain saline to flush your eyes -if you get grit in them
use preservative free lubricating eye drops as often as you're able
Wash your face and eyebrows and lashes carefully.
Learn essential tips to protect your eyes from smoke, ash, and irritants during wildfire season, and stay safe with expert eye care advice f
** additional preventive measure for extreme ash/particles:
slick a layer of 'grease' around your eyes. We used Vaseline on our eyebrows and eyelashes to CATCH the ash and particles and trap them.
thank you for eye health tips! I've been using my usual lubricating drops regularly, and just avoiding the outdoors unless absolutely essential, but I'm gonna boost these tips onwards for folks, because it's easy to get focused on your lungs... but eyes are also extremely delicate and hard to fix.
good news, i have in fact been spinning for Tour de Fleece
meh news, i have not been posting about it because i'm tired
so here's a day whatever it is round up of some yarns i have recently plyed. haven't gotten around to washing them yet but i'm happy with them all
What magic drugs are you on and can I have some because THAT IS SO MUCH LACEWEIGHT HOLY CHRIST
i hyperfixate
What if I ignored all my spinning and knitting and sewing WIPs and started a fully new spinning project... what then...

TDF Day 6 and 7: Crafting group at work on day 6, so I made it through almost all of the hot pink section. Day 7 was quick, but I finished up this part of the top I tore off and enjoyed some peachy coral vibes for a bit
