Momentum Vitae or the importance of life is another way of saying that all life matters from the moment of conception to natural death. In 1968 Humanae Vitae written by Pope Paul VI made several predictions. Pope Paul VI stated in this encyclical that artificial birth control would lead to: 1) An easy path to marital infidelity. 2) Moral degeneration. 3) A loss of man’s respect for woman whereby he would no longer care for physical and psychological well being. 4) Governments imposing coercive methods of control that inhibit freedom in one the most sacred of acts. 5) Mankind thinking that he has unlimited power over his body. “One need only look around to see that since the Pope said this in 1968, infidelity and divorce have skyrocketed, and morality has been lowered in almost every facet of society. Generally, there has been a decline in respect for women by men. It seems that "no longer do men care for her physical and psychological equilibrium." Men have even come to "the point of considering her as a mere instrument of selfish enjoyment and no longer as his respected and beloved companion." (HV 17) Pornography and prostitution are more common, as are domestic violence, child abuse, sexually transmitted diseases, and abortion. Governments, instead of protecting life, have legalized abortion, forced sterilization, and promoted artificial contraception throughout the world. Finally, mankind has left the moral order and has begun to destroy human life at its most vulnerable and innocent stages in practices such as embryonic stem cell research and in vitro fertilization, which also separates the marital act from conception.” See: http://www.archdioceseofchicago.org/pdf/HumanaeVitaeQuestionsandAnswers.pdf The above link is the source of the above paragraph. This link will supply other information about human life. Because our world has ignored what Pope Paul VI wrote, the culture of death has taken hold at the complete destruction of life on earth. Life is importance and in its importance it must begin at the very moment of conception to the moment of natural death. If we can return to this important idea, our world would find a greater sense of peace.
