Mineral Of The Day #125: Marcasite

Mohs Hardness Scale: 6-6.5 Category: sulfide mineral Formula: FeS2

Fun Facts:

Marcasite is a polymorph of pyrite (meaning it has the same chemical formula as pyrite, but a different crystal structure).

The most famous habit for marcasite is the “cock’s comb” twinned habit. The crystals appear like a rooster’s head crest, hence the name.

It is used as a minor ore of iron, a source of sulfur, and as mineral specimens.

“Marcasite jewelry” is actually made from pyrite, not marcasite!

Crystals - Note of caution.

Before making any elixir or charging any water, it is a good idea to double check for any possible toxicity that may occur, if using several stones in combination, for elemental reactions between the stones. In fact, it would be best if each stone charges in its own container of water as opposed to putting four or five stones in the same container.

‘Golden Skin’ Protection Method

This is probably one of my favourite ways of protecting myself. I recommend its use in conjunction with this cleansing method as I originally didn’t separate the two.

Version 1:

Do all of this.

Once you pressed all the negative energy out, keep expending the golden energy out of your body and “through your skin”. 

As it flows out, let your body and skin be coated in some of that emitting energy - do this by hardening it and programming it to “stick” to your skin.

Interwine the energy with your skin as well as opposed to only letting it sit on top of it.

Version 2:

Create an energy ball/”source” in your hand.

Let it grow bigger and start to fill it with fresh and protecting, strong energy.

Fill it with all of the desired and positive properties gold has: Strength, vitality, warmth, victory, royalty. Let the energy get heavier but stronger and more resilient, warmer. Still keep that freshness. 

Raise the vibration of your energy and make it stronger by strengthening and reinforcing the programmed properties.

Once you’re satisfied, let it stretch out from the palm of your hand and flow over your skin, sticking to it and coating it with a protective, hardened golden energy layer.

Keep doing this until your whole body is covered, then let it interwine itself with your skin while still staying on top of it as a protective layer.

Then you’re done. ♡

♠ Don’t forget to ground and eat/drink something afterwards to refill your tank and thank any source you took the energy from if you used one other than yourself. ♠

~THE BASIC TOOLS OF A WITCH~ **tools do not need to be used but make casting easer and this is not a complete list, as different paths have there own lists.

THE CHALICE 
the chalice is often made of silver, tho it can be made of any material. It is associated with water, and feminine energies.

THE CAULDRON
A tool of fire, often used to burn offerings , fire magic, or mixing potions. Many use cast iron cauldrons as cooking vessels.

DOWSING RODS
A divination tool often used to find lost objects or find underground water for well making.

MAGICAL JOURNAL
A magical journal often called a book of shadows due to pop culture , often used to keep a log of magical experiences, practices and recipes. 
Many believe the power of the written word, I personally believe that there’s more power in writing down it all by hand. You can use you book any way you want and name it what you want. It’s supposed to be personal and over the years you may have a series of books written by you.

THE WAND
A can be made with a verity of materials as well, many use certain woods and crystals while others use copper. They have masculine energies and considered tools of fire/ air. They are used to direct magical energies.

To name a few woods and magical uses. THE ATHAME 
A double sided blade that is never to be used to cut any physical surface. The Athame is usually considered to be a tool of air/fire. Used to direct energy , it is masculine THE BESOM
A broomstick it combines both masculine and feminine energies, used to “sweep away unwanted energies” never to be used for mundane but only for the magical, or else you risk loosing any magical power stores in it. THE SMOKE FAN 
Used to move magical energies in a space, a tool of air as it can be used in combination with sage for a cleansing ritual.

~BASIC TOOL CONSECRATION~ Prior to consecration I rub the wand with fresh lavender ,eucalyptus or mint leaves. When I consecrate my tools I hold the tool (wand) in my hand and visualize it absorbing my energies, then I purify the tool( wand) from its old energies with the elements , I choose to use the smoke method. While I smoke cleanse the wand I usually say aloud a blessing of the elements. Elemental blessing: 
I HOLD IN MY HANDS THE (tool), WHICH I DEDICATE AS A TOOL OF THE (name of element) ELEMENT. I DEDICATE IT TO POSITIVE USES AS I WALK THE PATH OF THE WISE

Food Magic 101: The Wooden Spoon

In celebration of the publication of my very first book the next few weeks will be dedicated to food magic. While I did cover the basics of what it is, I feel that my favorite branch of witchcraft ought to be covered more thoroughly.  So today we are going to start with the most basic tool in your food magic repertoire…the spoon! Note: I am not talking about this guy:

In food magic a practitioner supplements the wand for the spoon. This everyday implement is what you can (and often will) use to connect yourself to your recipe and the food that you create.  How to Choose a Spoon:  Your spoon can be of any material that you want it to be. If yours is made of plastic, metal, or a food safe silicon that is perfectly alright. I will, however, be focusing on wooden spoons because they are what I know best, and what I find the easiest to work with. Wooden spoons are soft enough that they keep your dishware safe and are perfectly safe so long as you keep them clean (you know, like every other piece of your kitchen) The first factor in choosing your spoon is to find out what it’s made of. Some woods are better than others, and some are only good for specific things. If you can ante up and buy from a local craftsman, I’d say do it. If you can’t that’s totally okay. Just try and figure out what your tool is made of and do some research.  *Note: I have a drafted post on woods and their magical correlations incoming. So if you don’t have a source for that, check back here later on this week. 

How to Cleanse and Bless a Spoon:

Your kitchen spoon is as important to your food magic as your wand, athame, and boline are for your other crafts. It’s a little bit of all three wrapped into one and therefore require a bit of extra attention. When you first get your spoon you are going to want to bless your spoon. 

You will need:  -Hot Water -A heat safe dish long enough or seep enough to submerge your spoon. -Olive Oil (about a tsp)  -Lemon -Your spoon -An herb of your choosing

I realize that the herb is a little vague, but here’s the thing. You may want to bless your spoon for a particular type of magic (divination, health/healing, inspiration, energy, ect) so do a little research into NON-TOXIC herbs and their magical correlations in order to bless your spoon for a specific way. If you are looking for a good all-around herb, I suggest using a salt and pepper mixture in place of the herb. 

1) Clean your spoon of any tags, stickers, or visible debris using your hand. 

2) First take the olive oil and smear with your fingers. Picture the oil pushing away any lingering energy from those who might have handled it before you. Not saying that other people touching your tools is gross, only that for cleansing you wanna do away with any lingering energies that aren’t…you know…yours. 

3) Add the hot water to your heat safe dish. 

4) Squeeze the lemon juice into the water

5)  Submerge the spoon in the water, slowly cleaning the oil away with your fingers.

6) Set the spoon out on a towel to air dry. Preferably in a sunny spot. 

7) When the spoon is dry place a tsp of your herb (or salt and pepper mix) unto the bowl of the spoon and allow to sit for a day or so. If you feel the inclination more it to your altar for this step. 

8) Clean the herbs from the spoon (preferably outside) and use this new tool as you wish! 

Spoon Correlations:  Energy Type: Feminine (Projectile)  Elemental correlation: Earth (subject to change upon the type of wood used) Deities: All (often dependent on the wood and the symbols carved or burned on the wood surface) Direction: North 

Info: A magical spoon (like the wand that it resembles) is a tool used to bind and transfer energies from one item to another. By holding the spoon in your dominant hand and using it to stir food (clockwise) you invite energy from yourself into the item of your creation. But stirring counterclockwise you are banishing energy. 

A wand also helps to bind items inside of a spell. By touching and moving items inside of a pot or pan it is bringing energy from one item into another until everything is mixed together.

I was a 16 year old girl in fandom, just getting into Homestuck, and I saw there was a lot of activity on tumblr for it. So i started following more people on tumblr and of course I got exposed to trans stuff.

A lot of it fit, like persistent thoughts of not wanting to be a girl, thinking my name was too girly, etc. But I was worried that I was just getting caught up on gender roles and being a girl wasn’t really what i hated, being a “girl” was.

So I started doing more research. I went off tumblr to hear stories from other trans people. I saw that a lot of them didn’t exactly fit the stereotype of their gender. But still they felt the need to transition. It was the only thing that made the dysphoria go away.

I thought a lot. I thought deeply about myself, what my life could be like. Of course, no one in this society likes being treated as a “girl”. The way we treat people born female is awful. But being a “man” isn’t so great either. I always felt scared to grow up, scared i would grow breasts and hips, getting a period, I even starved myself to get rid of it. I justified it to myself as being “cute” and loli-like.

Somewhere in the back of my head, I felt like I would grow tall and flat. I just was expecting it, despite all logic, like instinct. In the same way, male-directed lessons spoke to me. I knew rationally, I was not male. But something inside me recognized myself in maleness. Even with all the evidence, it was a hard decision. I could ruin my life if it was the wrong choice. But as soon as the idea was in my mind, it started to hurt more and more urgently.

I felt even more alienated from my body, my presence in the world, the thing people spoke to was not me, the thing people looked at was not me. I always felt uncomfortable in my body, but I figured it was normal for girls. Seeing girls who were masculine, who were comfortable with their body, blew that idea apart. I was so scared, more scared of anything I’ve ever been in my life.

When I finally decided to do it, to start changing my name and pronouns, I felt an immense rush of relief and happiness. But it was brief. People doubted me, thought I was going on a trend and I’d change back in a couple of years. My boyfriend at the time said I’m not trans, and of course left me. I lost a lot of friends. I lost the ability to get a job. I lost the ability to socialize in school. I wasn’t passing. It was still worth it.

At first I didn’t know what truscum was. I started seeing more posts that made me uncomfortable. People talking about men’s vaginas, asking everyone to constantly think about my dysphoric parts, people showing their dysphoric parts and demanding acceptance. Coercing us to look at fetishistic porn, to see it as “representation”. They seemed to want to force us to accept our bodies, if we didn’t we weren’t forward-thinking enough, not trans enough. I felt dysphoric every day, could barely stand the sound of my own voice, especially now that I was out. I felt like a clown. I wanted to be masculine, I wanted to be rid of this body that prevented me from truly interacting with the world.

But I couldn’t say that, there was nothing. No place for trans people like me. If being trans was a choice, what did it say about me, that I wanted to be masculine? I felt ashamed and guilty for it. But I also felt embarrassed and ashamed to be androgynous, or feminine. I wanted to be a guy, I wanted to be real. I wanted to feel my own body when i move around. But that was wrong.

I don’t remember the first time I came across the word ‘truscum’. I remember it crushed me. Learning that my kind were not only unaccepted, but hated and shunned. All this time I was figuring it out, I also wanted to be an artist for Homestuck, just to go on having fun and enjoying what I normally do. But now I was scared scared scared at someone would find out I was truscum. I’m 20 now and I still am.

I deleted my tumblr and tried to hide from the whole trans thing completely. I just wanted to pass as a guy and put it behind me. I didn’t want to deal with being truscum. I thought it would pass, that all the other young people like me would reason it out and come to the same conclusion I had. But it never did.

Since I was scum, I went to where the scum go. I stayed on HSG and had some amount of fun. It wasn’t really what I wanted. I wanted to be an artist, to make friends that I could be creative with and make my own stories. But that kind of thing is frowned upon on 4chan.

I wallowed for years, watching others achieve my dreams. I thought briefly that I could become like the other drawfags. I thought I was safe there, away from the tumblr community, where I could just forget about being trans. But they brought it to me. Reminding me that even among scum, I’m the worst scum.

It hurt a lot. There was, and is no one to care for me. But I’ve learned that’s not neccessary. That’s just part of being a man. They drink my tears and laugh about it. I can either be weak and hurt, or I can say fuck you anyway and turn my back. This isn’t the person I wanted to become. I idolize kind and soft men. I love funny, creative, chill people. But I can’t be that person anymore. I have to fight at every turn. I can’t make people happy. All I do is make people uncomfortable and sad.

I can’t enter the art community. There’s no place for truscum there. I’m a monster. I didn’t heal from my depression and become a happy, friendly person like I wanted. I didn’t get to be creative and share my stories with anyone. I will never be welcome amongst people like that. I’m evil. I’m the bad guy. Acting like one of them would be deceptive. If I ever told some of my favorite artists they make me uncomfortable, I would be laughed off tumblr. There’s no respect for people like me.

But I’ve learned a lot about people. The people I loved weren’t as good as I thought they were. No one truly is. I used to be full of so much love and trust, like a fool. I used to think that if you work hard enough, and do the right thing, anyone can acheive their dreams. But life’s not fair like that. Some people are just trash. And I’m one of them.
