Leaving Home

Ever since he was young he wanted to live in a city near the beach. So he packed his entire life into the back of his SUV. With his lease up and no where to go he had to make a decision. Stay is the same small town he had lives his whole life in or live in his car until he could make something of himself living on the beach. He had saved up enough to start a film studio. His studio was growing but there just weren't enough clients...but he couldn't afford a place and the loan so he bought a tent and a sleeping bag.

Just a Kiss

When she left him for the weekend knowing his ex-wife would be staying on the spare bed. She had stayed with them before and nothing happened. She wasn't worried he would do anything but his Ex was a different story.

"I need to tell you something Friday night."

His Ex text him that the Thursday before. He had wanted to go with her to their friends wedding but the trip would be two 12 hour drives bookended by 8 hour shifts.

She left him and almost never came back. His Ex needed to kiss him, and he didn't say no.

Nothing but Perfect

His idea of the perfect relationship was ruined when they broke up. She was the one for him. He had known it for over a year. He had spoken to his friends and parents but he hadn't figured out how he was going to do it. A ring is played out and three months salary is insane.

"Marriage is archaic, I never want to be owned."

It's scared him, he had told himself he would only ever propose to someone once. No wasn't an option, everything had to be perfect.

Saying Goodbye

"I feel like I have never had my own agency."

That was her reason for breaking up. He never doubted that, her mother left her father for that same reason. Well really it was because her father was a controlling asshole who only really cared about money..

"I have either lived with my parents or you. I have never just been by myself."

She had to take out a loan with her father to move out of the house they shared.

7 Years

"Hey, I know we haven't spoken for a couple years but I was just curious, how are you? Where are you? Did you get your degree? Where is life taking you?"

She never received a reply.

"Hey, so if by thirty we are still looking for something special you wanna get just get married?"

A couple minutes later she changed that to 27. They agreed but a week later he cut her out of his life entirely.

She kept track of him for a while, talking to there friends but he stopped talking to them when he transferred colleges.

"Will you be at the ten year?"

She had spent months deciding what she would wear and say. Even went to Walmart and bought a cheap engagement ring. She was going to propose to him on the spot in front of there entire class.

She left when he walked in with his husband.

The Kitten

She curled up into his lap and fell asleep.

"There you go kitty, you'll be alright."

He followed a trail of blood lead to the iron pile.

"Here, kitty kitty"

His arrival had scared off her assailant and in the repreave she hid in the iron pile. He left her be, she ran off so obviously she is ok.

When he left his sister's house she was laying under his car.

"Are you ok kitty?"

She growled as he approached. He stopped and held out his hand. She apprehensively creeped closer. She licked his had but wouldn't let him pick her up.

The vet stitched her up and he left her to be adopted. He went back in a couple weeks to settle the bill.

Inheritance

His father had three main hobbies after he and his brothers were born, Farming, Fishing, and Cooking. He shared them all with his three children but each chose one.

The oldest was the farmer he grew up building a toy farm. He was mesmerized by the tractors and knew every kind by heart. The youngest spent time cooking and learning how to prepare each of his father's recipes.

He and his father hadn't spent any real time together in his adult life. Four hours isn't all that far away but he was always busy with his job or school. He never really made it home to for more than a couple hours.

He got fishing even though didn't really understand it. All it was to him was spending money: on a boat, fishing tackle, and bait. But when a friend asked to fish he decided he couldn't say no.

He didn't have a memory of catching a monster as a child but he also didn't have a memory of leaving empty handed. But for a couple years he couldn't catch a thing. He never stopped going fishing but stopped going to fish. It calmed him and relaxed him after a hard day or week.

He stopped caring about catching a fish.

It took him a while but he figured out why his dad liked it and then his line almost always had a tug.

Misinformation

He thought he was protecting her as the little white lies piled up.

"Have you ever eaten here?"

"Um, I am not sure I have been to almost everywhere here."

Three years ago he had taken an ex-girlfriend there for brunch. There weren't many places they hadn't been in the city. She didn't want to go anywhere that would remind him of an Ex.

At first it wasn't hard, when the relationship was growing a little misinformation wasn't hard.

"I went here with a budy."

"An old roommate left that when he moved."

"Oh this an artist friend let me have those."

They never returned to that restaurant. He tossed the dishes.She made him return those paintings.

Everything had a story, what could he tell her?

They started seeing other people.

The Grass

He closed his eye and drifted off. They would lay for hours at the park both just happy to share it with eachother.

"Hey buddy, it's time to come in."

He looked into the sky.

"Come on, you're gunna get wet hurry."

He closed his eyes again.

Empty House

He hadn't found his place in the world, still young and lost this responsibility fell to him.

"With your brother in jail, no one will be there."

The house on the edge of town only add distance from the people he graduated alongside.

Even though he spent his childhood within these walls he had hardly spent an hour here alone.The wind and cold are what spoke to him at night.

The time alone helped him find himself.

Rescue

"A dog will help me make new friends."

Her family agreed. She needed a reason to get out of her apartment.

It wasn't new, she had wanted a one for years but lived vicariously through a girlfriend's cat.

She called her parents before going into the shelter.

"The bigger the dog the bigger the responsibility."

Was all her father had to say.

"A bigger dog is just more to love."

He was afraid of the grass, they worked through that together.

She was afraid to start again, he is still helping her get over that.

The Pawn Shop

Day after day pawnites, as his boss would call them, perused the cases.

"Let me see this one." "No no no, the next one."

It was beautiful but overlooked. The only attention it received was upon recommendation.

"It's, unique but not what I want."

Each time he pulled it out and slipped it on his pinky.

"Yep, It is a size seven and a half, you would need to have it sized."

"Can I try it on anyways?"

He wasn't ready the day he sold it or he was and just didn't know it.
