After three tries I think I’m finally happy with my woodlander height chart for the Redwall books. And thus release the image onto the internet!

I have a lot of feelings about costuming, (hares I’m looking at you) and was trying to keep as medieval as possible.

Though, upon re-reading the series, as much as the world is built on vibes - so is the costuming 🤣 (I say this with great affection, mind you).

After much reading and researching, this felt like the most logical proportions I came up with (and tended to imagine as I read).

So if you’ve seen my doodles or my comics, this is the scale I am working from!

To add some variety to this blog, I am going to share something I did for the Ukrainian publishing house “Nebo” (nebo.booklab.publishing) last year.

Here are a few fragments of the illustrations for the third novel in the Brian Jacques' Redwall saga — "Mattimeo". Of all the books in this series, I think "Mattimeo" was the most fun to illustrate so far.

Decided to dabble in other characters, so I definitely wanted to draw Mariel and Dandin (I did earlier but I wanted to redo their outfits). I just love how much of a gremlin Mariel can be 🤣

I’ll never let it go that Martin did not use a shield 🤣 (lovingly). It’s probably my favorite continuity error, because it played such an important part in Redwall and then it simply just did not exist in Mossflower. (Oh yeah and the hip scabbard. He wears the blade on his back…???)

My headcanon is that it was a gift from Salamandastron, which is also why it has the big “M” on it. (It just doesn’t seem like Martin’s style to have a big M in anything he owns)

And just how did it get to be part of a puzzle built into the abbey?

SO GLAD YOU ASKED! I fully believe that Gonff had a paw in making the whole riddle to where the sword was hidden. (And in other ways, he’s the one in the ghost world writing all the dream riddles/poems that Ghost!Martin delivers…there’s no way Martin is writing all of those.)

Also, yes I will never pass up a chance to draw Gonff with Gonflet. 😌

I’m here with more Dark Forest comics to give us the closure we didn’t know we wanted. At least what I wanted. I have a lot of feelings about Luke.

I just want Martin to have some closure and be happy in his afterlife. He sort of got it at the end of Legend of Luke, but it felt like more the grieving a family he never got to know, and reaching peace with that.

Meanwhile, there’s Gonff in the background…

I absolutely loved the idea of characters hanging out in the Dark Forest/Afterlife so I *HAD* to draw them meeting up.

Would Martin still try to keep his past a secret? Oh absolutely. Will it work? Not with Gonff floating around there!

And yes, while Martin was keeping Noonvale a secret, and not being over what happened, I also believe he didn’t want to tell because Gonff can be very dramatic.

Okay, I think I’m happy with the colors for Rose, and I had to draw a Martin next to her! I love the idea of him being the shorter of the two, so that’s what I did (and I can’t see him having the best access to food and such in the time he was growing up)
