One of Hong Kong’s only two identified serial killers, Lam Kwok-wai was referred to as “The Hong Kong Butcher” or “The Rainy Night Butcher” due to his penchant for killing women in the rain. An alcoholic, Lam said he enjoyed to get drunk because “it made me feel retarded.” Lam started out his life of crime by raping a 19-year-old virgin in an elevator. His sexual deviance grew stronger and he gradually escalated to murder and necrophilia. He raped a total of ten women and killed a total of three. Alarmingly, 22-year-old Mak Siu-han was murdered in a stairwell and it was estimated that over 40 people walked over her slain body before the police were finally called. He was eventually captured after brutally beating and raping a young woman before allowing her to live asking her on a date the following evening. He was sentenced to life imprisonment.
