I'm still confused about all this art theft/similar style/inspiration stuff because like mayor-lorna/lavenderlings just posted art that could almost totally pass for yours but is it ok? i'm a new artist developing my own style and i want to be careful not to "art plagiarize" but i'm also inspired by lots of different people and i don't know what the boundaries are :/ i'm not trying to start anything, just looking for clarification! so, to the thing about @lavenderlings, me and her are art buds, we exchange art advice a lot and have been friends for a while, so ofc our art looks super similar (honestly ive stolen more from her ahah)what i mean by “copying art” is when someone is looking at your art when they draw to try and mimic parts of it. or they see something YOU draw and they take that AND THEN DRAW IT AGAIN and claim it as their own.

so i posted this photo, really proud of it a while ago, TEN DAYS LATER i see someone else’s art, same composition, the plants were all the same, two windows everything, except they changed the character. even tho it wasnt “the same”,
IT WAS OBVIOUS that they did that piece with mine open in front of them with the intention to copy it. I look deeper on their blog and I see another piece, composed just like this one:
the person copied everything again, two trees, same tent same ah i just sounD REALLY WHINEY I KNOW but it really did have an impact on me, this piece actually took me almost a year to fine a composition for that i liked, and just 10 days after i made it pubic someone took it and made it for themselves, for their own followers, with their own characters.
(i made this in a stream a while ago, ive actually never posted this photo to tumblr, i only posted my wip shots to twitter because this person actually beat me to uploading my own art. part of why its been hard for me to stream)
i know, i sound like a huge hecking baby, and i really am, this is so tiny to other peoples problems and its not even one of my biggest problems, its jsut that this still really impacts me and it happens all the time now, i know its something i cant change and have to get used to but just wanted to ask you guys not to do this, like please be inspired, experiment with your style, just dont copy other peoples stuff for profit, especially without crediting them.
“style“ wise its the same thing, are you sitting there looking at their art while you draw? trying to mimic everything? and then posting it? please dont! (actually you should totally do that, it’ll help you a lot in learning, but jsut dont post it and claim it as original yo)
tl;dr: you’ll know when youre actually copying someone, and theyll know too, dont post it as if you came up with it. just dont.
