why do you hate atyd?

like this is a genuinely curious question, not meant to be offensive or anything - i just saw 'proud atyd hater' in your bio and had to ask lol, have a wonderful day! :)

not offensive at all! all my instagram followers have heard this rant so many times but i’ve never actually said it on tumblr-

tbh it’s not actually the fic itself that I hate. While I don’t think it’s a great fic by any standards, I don’t hate it. It’s just an average (way too long) fanfic (that’s slightly problematic but I won’t get into that.) If you enjoy the fic that is entirely your prerogative and opinion and I respect that🙌

What I really hate is this fandom’s response to it, and how people treat it as canon. It literally drives me insane. Once, one of my instagram followers legitimately didn’t realize “The Prank” was canon and thought it was a headcanon from atyd😃. Obviously I know not everyone is that clueless but I genuinely think it’s caused this fandom to take a turn for the worst.

Ultimately, there are SO many better fics out there that have better interpretations of the characters and events than All The Young Dude has. If you want recommendations please let me know.
