Hunter smiled back at Santana. “Thanks. It does the job. I can maneuver pretty easily, I can work from here remotely most of the week around my PT schedule, and it’s close to the hospital.” Even as he said it, Hunter rolled over to the window, looking out and over to where the hospital was. He shook his head. “No, the military is paying the bill. The therapist they want me to see took a job here in Lima after a dozen years at the VA hospital in Columbus. If she’d still been there, I’m sure they would have just transferred me there,” he admitted.
He nodded his head and continued to look out the window at the city while Santana changed. Hearing the bathroom door, he wheeled himself back around, letting out an appreciative whistle. “It’s too bad she couldn’t make it,” Hunter said, although from what he remembered, he wasn’t sure he could handle an afternoon with Brittany, but he was sure Santana would have preferred to be with her wife poolside than him, and he could be gracious.
Hunter laughed. “Well I’m glad somebody enjoyed the party. I was one of the sober crowd, naturally,” he said with a gesture to his pelvis. He shrugged his shoulders as he rolled towards the door. “It was nice to see some people again.” Of course he didn’t see all the people he’d hoped to see again. Hunter could admit that part now, to himself.
“Looks like it’s pretty convenient for you to be here then, hm?” Being in his situation didn’t seem convenient by any means, but at least he was close to all of the resources that were needed. She knew that it had to be difficult to manage everything, so we was going to try her best to be nice to the man. The keyword was try, but she feels as if they get along pretty well so far.
Santana playfully rolled her eyes at the man in his chair. It was true, she looked great and she would look even better in just her suit. She sighed as she thought of Brittany not being able to join. “Her work schedule has her really busy, so you just get me today. Maybe she will be free to join us another time.” Any time to spent with Brittany is great, especially when she could use that time to have Hunter get to know Brittany more as well.
“Oh, the party was a great time. I can understand why you would stray from the alcohol, though. It can’t be good for you to add alcohol on top of everything else.” She gave him a pointed look, putting her hands on her hips. As a bartender, she knew how careful one had to be when it came to post-accident treatment. “I’m glad you got to see everyone, though. It’s still crazy to me that we’re all back here.”
