And Another Thing...Ep. 2

So I want to talk a little bit about the relationship between Kat and Martin on Beyond the Gates. There was a scene recently between the two in the hospital that I think really tell a story about their relationship.

It seems we've all noticed the tension between Kat and Martin before. This isn't the first time that Martin has called Kat a princess. Do I think Kat has justified fears of the healthcare system, being a black woman? Yes, absolutely. I just want to say, that I think that will the point of Kat's hesitation. That there will be a story about discrepancies in treatment between black women and their white counterparts, because as a black woman myself, I know the impact of this issue. Beyond the Gates has shown to be really good at giving awareness and education to public issues, so that's what I forsee here.

But I don't think that's what Martin sees. Think about how Martin calls Kat the "miracle baby", same as her parents. He is also their child; does he feel excluded knowing how desperately his parents wanted Kat? Did he feel like he wasn't enough, and that's why they wanted another child? I've never seen Martin's perspective of his family's situation discussed before. Until that scene in the hospital, I hadn't even thought about it, really. But wouldn't it add an additional layer of explanation to why Martin likes Eva so much? She was separated from her family through no fault of her own. Perhaps that's how Martin feels his relationship with his parents was affected by Kat's birth?

I love this show, because I find a lot that they will elude to something before outright stating it. I think this is one of those times. But sound off in the comments! What do you guys think that little squabble between Kat and Martin was Really about? Let's talk! Love yall ❤️❤️

What's Up With Wyatt?

I know that I just wrote about Wyatt Spencer not too long ago, and here I go again. But I have a lot of writing I'm working on at once, and honestly this is the easiest to complete and put out 😅

So he's got his usual comedic temperament going, but there's a darker edge to the prodigal son. I mean, look at the way he's dressed.

Since when does Wyatt dress like that? Furthermore, what about all the doubt in Bill? I know that he and Bill have had tension about the company in the past, but as I understood it, those problems had been resolved. Now he's adamant about not being under Bill's thumb. That's two changes so far. Then there's the thing that really bothers me.

What the FUCK is Shauna doing here? I thought that trash had gotten dumped at the landfill long ago. Who dug it up? Who is responsible for bringing this character back? I just want to talk. But what really pisses me off is...who decided to reattach Shauna to Wyatt? They better not be together. I'll have an asthma attack.

Hope Joins Logan

It took basically two weeks, but Hope has finally signed that contract for Logan! She joins Katie's company for her new line, ensuring that her brother will have the opportunity to design too. That's why I love Hope, and she's my favorite character on The Bold and the Beautiful. She's not perfect, but at least she fucking tries!

Let's talk about something real quick; the relationship between Hope and Bill. I remember when she was swinging gulf clubs in his living room (deservedly, btw) to being encouraged to join Her family at Spencer. He loves and wants the best for his daughter in law. I really love the progress for them.

I want Hope to go harder at making this line a success than she ever has at anything in her in her life. Not to prove anything to Steffy or to Forrester, but to cement herself. Hope has no strong ties in her life. Liam has been taken from her before. Her baby Beth has been taken from her before. She was alienated from her father for her entire childhood. Most significantly, all her siblings got a Forrester father and a slice of the coveted pie. But what does Hope have? Her line is contracted to Forrester. If not for her leaving now. Hope may have Never been able to make anything her own. Just like her mother.

Welcome Home, Wyatt Spencer

The re-emergence of Wyatt Spencer in Los Angeles this week has really been the cherry on top of the week for me. I missed Darin Brooks!

I really enjoyed Wyatt's scenes with Bill and Liam this week. I realized what the show has been since the day he left; comedic relief! I openly chuckled multiple times during their conversation. It was really enjoyable. Side note, is Shawna Fulton here to Stay?! Because personally, I find that unacceptable lol.

My hope for the reprisal of this character is a return to form. I want the Wyatt Spencer from 2014; bold, confident, funny, loyal, a little arrogant. Wyatt is the closest character on the show to a real person. He struggled with morality, like when Quinn had kidnapped his brother Liam. We watched him decide between doing the right thing and what would benefit him most. We saw the development of his rela with his father he didn't know growing up. We watched him go from rejecting Bill to being in charge of his weddings. Getting a seat at the Spencer table.

Speaking of the Spencer family, we now have it's missing piece. Hope joining Logan is what I really wanted for her, but it felt like something was missing. The team was incomplete. Wyatt was an integral part of Hope for the Future's success a decade ago. He's honed his business skills running his mother and father's companies. He's been an established person, that we've truly watched evolve. And Darin Brooks just IS Wyatt Spencer. No one else could be.

This Hope Diamond storyline really makes me look forward to the summer. It's that return to form I mentioned previously. I hope the entire show carries in that direction.

And Another Thing...Ep.1

What soap opera characters made the biggest impression on you, coming into the genre?

If you can't already tell (😅) Jason Morgan has had the biggest impact on me as a real person. I was this close 👌🏾 to naming my child after him! He is everything I've come to believe that a man should be. Protective, loving, loyal, kind to others. There's nothing Jason wouldn't do to protect a child. The way Jason protects Michael to this day, really warms my heart. The way that Jason helps Anna whenever she's in trouble, just out of love for Robin. That's real love and loyalty; it even extends to family of people he loves. Jason wants the people he loves to be good in every way.

I know we watch soaps, but anyday you could put your head up and see these caricatures walking around in real people! So we should identify what (and who) we like and why.

Deanna McBride

I'm surprised I've never talked about Deanna on this blog before. The prodigal daughter has returned to Fairmount Crest!

I've always been really curious about why Deanna never came home after Doug died. I know that the show supplied emotional reasons for her absence. But Vanessa seems very involved in her children's lives; I was surprised she didn't get her to come home while Donnell was there. I'm aware that until this week we had never met Deanna; but something has always been a little bit off.

Cue Deanna blowing up at Vanessa for her relationship with Joey. I assumed her relationship was why Deanna was avoiding going home. But if she's just now discovering that, what caused her to stay away? I think there's something there between Deanna and Vanessa. Has Deanna always known (or suspected) about her mother's proclivities? Did she always know about Doug's? Are we watching a young woman come to grips with the reality that her parents are painfully human?

I don't think Deanna hating Vanessa is a new thing. It's something that she's just truly seeing now. I'd bet the house that the strings between Joey and Vanessa, Deanna, and this escort service are all tangled up.

Jabbermouth Josslyn

Josslyn Jacks has lost her goddamn mind ladies and gentleman! She's rude, she's bossy, and she swears to God she's coming for you! Don't these sound like the ramblings of a deranged lunatic? Agreed.

In last week's episodes of General Hospital, we got to see Jossyln attempt to turn herself into Anna Devine. You know, "do it for the greater good" and all that nonsense. She's so busy trying to be 'Carmen Elizabeth Juanita Echo Sky Brava Cortez', that she forgot she's a regular bitch with a flashlight and a gun! Not even a badge! As Claudia Zaccara once said "She is operating with confidence that she has not earned." Jossyln is a spy because Jack Brennan wants to rule Port Charles. Not because she's exceedingly intelligent, or a superstar althlete. She's just the right person, who can be positioned in the right place to get at the right people. And just like a puppet, she's letting him pull her strings.

Josslyn told Carly that if she didn't turn Valentin in to the WSB, she would and her mother would go to jail. Personal opinion; there is no greater good in the world that would require my mom to suffer for it. If so, we'll never achieve that greatness. I'm going to rock with who rocks with me. But if you're disloyal, like Josslyn, your morals can be swayed. Your beliefs can be changed.

Let's talk about Dex real quick. I know someone will say, "the only reason Josslyn is doing this is to avenge Dex's death." To that statement, I pose two questions.

Question #1: What will ultimately avenge Dex? Because his killer is already dead. What more is there to be done here?

Question #2: Is it ok if Josslyn betrays everyone she's ever known and loved, to do what she believes is the right thing?

We have to ask ourselves; why is this acceptable to Josslyn? Because it's clearly a fate only meant for certain people. So she'll let her mother go to jail to get at Sonny, but not Jason? Could it be because her mother was with Sonny, and she blames her just as much for the mess in her head as she does Sonny? Does she think Ava is absolved from switching out Morgan's lithium, because Sonny blew up Julian's car? How does Jossyln Jacks, see her own life? How has she absorbed the things that have happened to her.

I remember Josslyn being born on screen in 2009. As someone who will be turning 30 this year, this is really the first time I'm having this experience. It's my first time watching a character being born, childhood, and now becoming an adult. I'm living my life alongside them. Realizing this has also caused me to realize the dramatic change in opinions on soap characters/storylines over the years (if you ask me, I'll tell you why I like Brooke Logan now). Gurl...WTF! Lulu the Lurker

A storm is returning to Port Charles. Who's caught up in the wind and rain this time? Why, if it isn't Lulu Spencer herself! Like that's new 😒

The day Lulu woke up from her coma, we gained just as much as we lost. I just want to start off by saying, Alexa Havins is a remarkable actress. I still remember her deep portrayal of wildly layered Babe Carey on All My Children. So I knew she had the energy, the fire necessary to play a Spencer woman. While initially she didn't seem like a good fit (you guys remember Lulu when she woke up lol) she has gone on to truly embody the character's essence. Alexa Havins is Lulu Spencer, to be challenged only by Julie Bergman. And of course, nobody is challenging Kristen Storms for Maxie. She's it, and always will be. That's her character.

Now, to the beef. Why is Lulu dating Maxie's ex-husband? You know, the one they all thought was dead. The one Lulu thought she had a Hand in killing?!

Lulu believed she contributed to the death of her best friend's husband. Watched her grieve. Watch her become a mother to the little boy she'd made with her husband. Watched and helped her raise him alone. Then he comes back from the dead, and she thinks it's a free for all?!

Maxie shouldn't need to explain the complexity of her feelings. Maxie and Nathan never got divorced. They never separated. She believed that he died. And usually, that's it for people. How could Lulu not understand this concept? I believe that's why she brought her feelings for Nathan to Maxie's attention. To make Maxie uncomfortable before she could second guess her decision to remain with Spinelli. Lulu told Maxie they were awaiting her decision. But she knew Maxie had incomplete information. When presented afterwards, it sounds more like "this is what we've decided to do. And we're glad for what you've decided, because this was going to happen anyway."

I can understand how Nathan could treat Maxie's feelings so cavalier. He's a man! But girl friends don't do that. Especially not grown ass women. This storyline has made me very disappointed in Lulu.
