How could Candy Crush change the world?
How can games change the world and what would happen if Candy Crush did this for one day? Connecting in-game spending to fund sustainable development programs is one suggestion.
So for example, at goodXgames we've built an impact program that channels in-game spending funds to support micro-financing solar technology for people without electricity access as well as training for solar jobs. The program supports solar for schools, medical clinics, solar lighting and clean cookstoves.
So, back to Candy Crush Saga... On their good days, they're making $3 million a day from Candy Crush. Crazy right? $3 million a day! Now assume King says "lets use our game for good and help Haiti for one day with the goodX Impact Program". Below is the impact of their corporate social gaming effort. This includes the number of solar solutions provided, lives affected. $300,000 not shown would be used to educate and train aspiring Haitian solar technicians.
#’s Lives Affected 415 20,738 70% Solar for Clinics, Schools, Agri. 21,545 107,727 20% Solar Lighting 9,480 47,400 10% Solar Cookstoves Total Total Solutions: Lives Affected: 31,440 175,865
So what happened here? The daily active users for Candy Crush Saga, just played a video game for a day and changed 175,000+ lives through our Impact Network. 415 schools or medical clinics now have solar electricity, 21,545 households now have solar lighting and 9,480 homes have clean cookstoves. In addition we've decreased carbon emissions by swapping kerosene and charcoal for solar and saved a lot of lives from respiratory deaths.
So there it is people, the revolution has been gamified!
Cheers,
