My mum has me when she was 16 and she never sugar-coated things. She was like, ‘This is the truth; this is what happens to people.’ I found that beautiful. I find pain beautiful. Being creative, you can’t help but see the beauty in things that other people don’t. I believe there this a reason why we fall down. And when I get on the other side of a challenge, whether it’s a relationship or a period in my life when I don’t feel good, I realize why I got there. I have always loved that and it is a great thing to explore on film.
