Marianela Nunez - Giselle
The incomparable Irina Kolpakova (who turns 85 in May - let that sink in for a second), one of Russia’s greatest ballerinas and one of Agrippina Vaganova’s last students, in rehearsal at ABT.
This woman is a treasure and I hope Americans appreciate how lucky they are to have her.
Young Vladimir Malakhov. Student of Bolshoi Ballet Academy.
Vladimir Malakhov and Diana Vishneva rehearsing and performing “Giselle”.
Vladimir and Diana are each others favourite partners. The two met by chance in 1995, during an international gala in Toronto. Malakhov was supposed to dance “Le Spectre de la rose”, but he didn’t have a partner. The then-seventeen year old Diana was offered a chance to be partnered by him. They have been inseparable ever since.
Malakhov on Diana: “Diana, for me, is a singular story. There isn’t and will never be another ballerina like her. She has been my partner for the duration of her entire career.”
Diana on Malakhov: “I adore dancing with Malakhov. We are like two halves of a whole”.

It’s closing night for the London West End production of An American in Paris! Goodbyes are bittersweet, but I’m glad I got to see this stunning show twice at the Dominion Theatre
