Happy Birthday Majima!!!
I few years ago, I kinda fell out of love with the goth scene because I saw that right-wing influences kept pushing into the scene and I felt frustrated that so many people in the scene didn‘t do anything about it or even fell for that crap.
Then I discovered bands like Vision Video, who were very vocal about their punk, anti-fascist, anti-bigotry views. I re-discovered post punk and dark wave and I have found and re-sdiscovered many bands since who fight right-wing ideologies within the goth scene and who refuse to accept it and they are right. You can‘t be right-wing or even conservative and goth, those things are mutually exclusive. You can‘t be a racist or queerphobic goth. If you are, you are not goth, you are a poser who hasn‘t understood what this subculture is about. Goth is as much about fighting systems of opression and fighting for freedom of expression as it is about the music and the fashion, which are just an extension of this political view.
I just discovered a band called Male Tears who summerised this perfectly when they were asked what they think about artists in the goth/darkwave scene expressing homophobic, transphobic or other shitty opinions: „Those people are posers and participating in the scene disingenuously. They’re kidding themselves if they think they have a place in this arena.“

Dante fell in love with Leon
But he rejected him.
I'm sorry, Danleon fans. It wasn't meant to be. :(
So after Leon rejected Dante and he got over him, Leon developed a crush on Dante and confessed.
Maybe I was wrong.
Maybe Danleon was meant to be after all.

Why do these look like you just walked in on Giorno and Golden Experience kissing each other and Giorno is trying soooo hard to act like nothing happend?
Don't worry Giorno, I'm not judging you for giving kissies to you stand.
You really don't have to like "problematic ships" or whatever but seeing people act like "proshipping" is a new thing that is currently destroying fandom is so wild.
I can assure you that incest ship you hate so much has been around for like 20 years and is literally one of the building blocks of the fandom you've joined maybe a year ago.
Like do you think DMC fans didn't ship DV in 2005? Do you know how ancient Sephiroth x Cloud is? It has always been there, and it has kept fandoms alive for years.
I'm not telling you to be for or against fancontent like this, it's just a fact and if you can't accept that I don't know what to tell you.

My Jjba-pilled brain: Jojolion
I was like... Okay with the first season of Netflix DMC and wanted to get my own opinions on season 2. But I've been getting so much negative postings about the teasers alone that it killed all my interest in it. Like I haven't even watched the trailers myself, I don't have my own opinion. Don't care anymore if it's good or bad or just painfully mediocre, all my interest in it is just killed off by the negativity online.
I'm angry about getting negativity showed in my face by algorythms, not about fans who are genuinely criticising the show btw. I need to get off of X it feeds on people being miserable.
My design for Diana Brando (Magical Girl AU)
Dianna Brando, based on our favourite homicidal vampire Dio, now in what is probably my favourite design so far. My thoughts on the characterdesign after the cut.
I would like to point out that Dio's official height/weight of 185cm (6'1) and 90kg (200lbs) is from a character sheet that was released more than 35 years after Phantom Blood was originally written in December of 2022, and later updated in 2024. Araki has stated that he doesn't have Dio's original character sheets anymore and this new character sheet was roughly put together from memory.
In his book Manga in Theory and Practice, Araki mentions that he often tends to forget details he finds unimportant. He once gave Trish a birth date that would make her not Diavolo's daughter and shaved 6 whole cm from Narancia's height from his introduction to his final character sheet.
The character sheets aren't absolute nor are they meant to be (by Araki's own admission). Information from the Character Profile sheets may or may not be considered canon if they aren't consistent with the manga. According to Araki in Hirohiko Araki's New Manga Techniques - Chapter 1: What Can Be Changed and What Should Stay Consistent, "the Character Profile is like a sketch—a rough outline of the character. Characters grow and evolve as they live out their lives within the manga. As the story progresses, certain aspects of the profile may no longer align."
Personally, I don't think Dio's character sheet is fully accurate to his original design. Certain inconsistencies in the character sheet support this. For example, according to JoJo 6251 (book by Araki from the 90's), Dio's age when he became a vampire should be 20-21, while the character sheet shows him as only 18, which doesn't make sense with the timelines either. The manga also explicitly states that Dio and Jonathan are the same age, and we know Jonathan's age at the time of his death (April 1868 - February 1889).
It's also important to note Araki's perception of his characters' appearances has changed drastically over the years. Dio's character sheet released at a time when a lot of the early JoJo characters who were known being big and buff have been completely retconned, including Jonathan. If Araki does a character sheet for Jonathan now, he would most likely retcon his measurements as well.
There's this interview with Lucca comics, where the interviewer was asking him why Jonathan is not buff anymore and that he looked like a Sailor Moon character now. Araki said something along the lines that he wasn't good at drawing back then and he draws Jonathan with the "correct proportions" now. You could argue he was just talking about the anatomy but the interviewer follows it up with, "but he looked so gorgeous" to which Araki replied, "he looked like Sylvester Stallone" and for the record, Sylvester Stallone was one of the original inspirations for Jonathan's design. So yes, Araki has pretty much denounced Jonathan's original, muscular design.
Considering Dio and Jonathan have always been depicted around the same size, it's extremely likely that Dio's measurements would've been much closer to Jonathan's if we had his original character sheet from the 80's. In interviews such as Les dossiers du Manga Vol. 7 and Phantom Blood PS2, Araki emphasised being inspired by the muscular physiques of Schwarzenegger and Stallone when making Part 1 and in JoJonium Vol. 3, Araki says, "People always love to compare who's stronger or who's cooler. You've got Godzilla versus Mechagodzilla, Schwarzenegger vs. Stallone... I wanted there to be that sort of contrast or struggle between Dio and Jonathan."
Araki has always depicted Dio and Jonathan roughly around the same size to emphasize that same kind of rivalry and competition.
Interestingly, Araki describes Dio as "tall". However, what constitutes as "tall" for Araki now is very different from what it used to back then. Dio was literally one of the OG buff JoJo characters alongside Jonathan and was created to have an "Schwarzenegger vs. Stallone" type of contrast with Jonathan. It genuinely doesn't make sense for a character like Dio, who Araki very specifically described as "tall" to end up shorter than characters like Abbacchio of all people.
Similarly, Jotaro's official weight of 82 kg doesn't really make sense with his Part 3 design and would actually make him way too skinny. Turns out, Jotaro's Part 3 manga profile only included his height, not his weight. His official weight was added much later on, long after he had already been hit with the twinkification beam, so it may not be accurate to Jotaro's original design in the 90's.
As far as I see it, 185 cm is just an arbitrary number retroactively added to Dio's character decades after his conception and it does not reflect how he was originally supposed to be.
I apologise for the long rambling. I just got a bit carried away but I just wanted to say that I honestly wouldn't take Dio's officially stated measurements at face value.
That's a long text I didn't expect XD
I am not as deep into the interviews and stuff to know which stat and profile came from where, but I know that the stats all are not to be taken as hard canon for multiple reasons. I just can't go to deep into it because I really don't want the design notes to be even longer then they already are, because I fear then people won't read them at all.
The reason I mention these stats is not because I think they are hard canon, but I still think Araki put some thought into them. My designs are not just genderbends, but an AU, and I just feel like some of these stats are interesting to take into consideration when thinking about the bodytypes of my versions of these characters. They are an inspiration for me, not strict facts I stick to.
You mentioned that a lot of the stats are not how they where originaly designed to be years ago but more how they are depicted years later and I can see that. There is a reason I mention differences to how Araki drew the caracters back then, how he draws them now and how they are in the anime - I really don't want to only look at one part in the long lifespan of this franchise to make these. I do end up with the anime most of the time though, because I have a more consistent refrence in costume and character design - I actually am a bit sad about not including more manga material, but it's honestly really difficult and I am far from an expert in character design.
Maybe I can word it a bit differently next time and/or try to make more free interpretations for the body builds. You also reminded me that I've been wanting to read Manga in Theory and Practice for years now and really need to do it.
