“What hunter asshole? He hurt you? Who is he?”
“Oh, well, I might be persuaded to do that.”

“Umm.. black out.. maybe. I don’t know. It’s okay. Don’t gotta worry about me. I paid my rent and I know how to live rough. So I’m good.” He could tell that she was still worried. “Silly. Look.” He showed his cheek so she could see the bruising disappearing as they spoke. “Are ya really fine or are you just tellin’ me that cuz you’re worried about me?”
“Zevi, someone beat you up and took your money. You can’t just...let that go.” She frowned, looking at his face. “I’ll admit, that’s sort of amazing...” Her hand rose to his cheekbone, examining the fading bruise. “I’m fine, really. But worried about you.”
“Well, fuck, Nat. Way to ruin my plans.”
“Go easy on the eyeshadow and you should be good.”
“Oh, you had plans?”
“Mmkay, cool. Hah. It’ll be a lucky night if I don’t run into that hunter asshole who decided to give me a good slap on the wrist for flirting.”

It’s as great as ever. It’s kind of sad that this will be my last semester here to do it, but all good things must end, I suppose.
“Do you really care? You look hot.”
“Eh, sort of? I’m going for a look that says ‘take me home,’ but not something that suggests I’m gonna like, fuck like a porn star.”
He sat down on the bench where she pulled him, grateful to get off his feet. He could feel himself healing, but he still ached an awful lot. He shrugged. “Lots. It’s real hard out there and people look after themselves you know. But I’m okay honest. How are you Natty?”
Natalie sat close to her friend and held his hand. “This isn’t okay, Zevi. Did you black out? Is that why you can’t remember? I can spot you some cash...” She stared at him, worried. “I’m..fine.”
“Does this color look too slutty for tonight?”
“It might only be interesting if you’re science minded then. Are you still in that class? Because I’ll do the work for you if you can understand this and explain it to me.” She gestured to the book before her, pushing it away slightly.
Natalie raised an eyebrow and pulled the book towards her. “Oh, this is totally easy.” She nodded. “i think you’ve got yourself a deal.”

“No! No hospital. Please. I’ll be all healed in like an hour Natty.” He relaxed into her. “I went to… see some of the people I knew when I was living on the streets, I wanted to give ‘em some money since I got paid yesterday, but… but then… I’m not sure.”
Natalie sighed. “Okay. Well..at least..sit down, or something.” She pulled him to a nearby bench. “Is there anyone who didn’t like you there?”
“At least microbiology is interesting. This is fucking torturous. There is only so much Russian literature I can take.”
“Microbiology is not interesting. It’s a foreign language that I don’t understand and won’t ever use when I graduate.”
It’s because I’m pretty cute.
