Something I wonder about are the little “mistakes” in Rocky’s speech like “amaze” and “thank”. Because… it’s not quite like someone mispronouncing something or having an accent or mistaking grammar in a foreign language. They’re both speaking their own native tongue! So it’s more like code where Rocky and Grace agree that one specific Eridian word translates directly to a specific English word. I just feel like IRL there’s no reason (🎶Eridian word for gratefulness🎶) shouldn’t translate to “thank you”. Other than making Rocky sound cute and alien.
HOWEVER! My personal headcannon is that back when they were using Grace’s inefficient two laptops taped together computer/spreadsheet translation technique they were constantly adding lots of new words to the list bc they didn’t have much common ground yet. And it was happening fast as they were talking and Rocky would just automatically move on (bc eidetic memory💁🏽♀️) so Grace had to work fast to keep up. Thus he typed in shorthand for some words like “thank” instead of “thanks/thank you” and “amaze” instead of “amazing” and he got used to reading that off the screen so that’s just what he got used to translating those specific Eridian words to in his head… Even tho he could have easily updated his own mental translation lol.
I don’t know how this would even ever come up, but if Rocky found out I feel like he’d be offended at Grace mentally translating his words into incorrect English. XD
