Whoever did or directed Jax's breathing deserves a fucking reward that shit was incredible as someone who has suffered with on and off anxiety and depression that shit was real af I have never felt more represented in a piece of media in my life
ok i'll probably be watching and rewatching the finale for a while but wow it was good
spoilers and thoughts below!
so i first watched it on a tv with other people in the room, which was a mistake because i couldn't pause and rewind stuff and look at details and take it all in at my pace. i think because there's so much that happens i was confused at some parts initially, but now that i've watched it again everything makes sense, and I really love how they ended it.
first off, over everything, the animation is stellar as always. i loved the looney tunes bit with zooble and jax, that looked so good. Ribbit's room too was so beautiful I WANT A FROG ROOM WITH A LILYPAD BED AND PRETTY LIGHTS!!! the Jax pov was a cool change too, (it felt like wearing a vr headset tbh) and then the transition back to 3rd person while he's talking was unexpected.
man it hurt to watch the fallout with Ribbit though. And to see the different Jaxs that are his masks he wears to protect himself around others, while what i assume is the TRUE Jax is kept locked away behind that one door with boards and chains. LET HER OUT!!! T-T LET HER WEAR BOWS AND DRESSES UNIRONICALLY
since Pomni was able to reach Jax through the abstraction, I wonder if they will be able to find a way to fix it in the future? i think that was left open-ended enough.
i completely misunderstood the Caine scene the first time xD i thought the red dot Caine was happening at the same time as current Caine, like a digital representation or something, until I realized 1. the shapes he was creating as stairs didn't match, and 2. he was literally GROWING A BODY and becoming the Caine we know now. lol when he added Scratch to the circus i thought he was re-adding him and that he found a way to fix the abstracted people!
so much DETAIL though!! i really liked that you could pause and read all about their real world counterparts. irl Zooble owning a bar named triangle is adorable, and that irl Jax goes there with friends!! also noticed the bowling ball in Ribbit's room which i think is probably the one Jax grabs from Kaufmo's room later? that made sense of that moment from ep 1 and made it HURT WORSE when he's CRYING IN THE MIRRORR AUUUUGHH

Jax is still my favorite character. he was a jerk to everyone, and i think the abstraction ending makes sense here. he knows why it happened. trauma can hurt you and can ripple outward and hurt others, and if you keep pushing others away when they try to be there for you, you'll remain stuck in its cycle forever at your detriment. he's an example of what not to do. Also i think abstraction in general is a clear metaphor, and how Pomni breaks through it to speak to him one last time. It's important to check in with the people you care about before it's too late, you never know what they could be going through.
there's so much i love about this show, and this finale was everything!!!! that's all for now i guess! thanks for reading if you get here :D
