The Orville: 1x1 Old Wounds
I’m showing my wife DS9 and we got to the season 3 opener, where the crew is behind the door on the changeling home world, and she asked “do the changelings know the Dominion is here doing this???” And I declined to answer.
When Kira went “youre part of the dominion aren’t you?” she went “shit!”
And female Changeling said “we ARE the dominion.” “Shit!”
“We are the Founders.” “SHIT!”
She was incredibly pleased of the development and did not see it coming. Thank you for the joy
Glad she was surprised and pleased!
When we came up with that twist, Ira, Pete, and I had planned to hold the reveal for a season or two. Then we pitched it to Michael and his response was basically: "No, that's too good to hold back. Let's do it for the opening of Season Three." Which is why it happens where it does.
Star Trek Voyager: The Voyager Conspiracy.
Chakotay: You didn't poison the coffee, did you?
Captain Janeway: Not any more than I usually do.

Was anyone gonna tell me the Orville takes itself 100% seriously after the first two episodes or was I suppose to find out theres genuinely good new Trek content out there myself?
1/22/26 stats for The Orville on Hulu:
#15 in the top 112 TV shows (⬆️8)
#11 in the top 73 drama shows (⬆️4)
#8 in the top 47 comedy shows (⬆️5)
#7 in the top 20 sci-fi shows (⬆️1)
Look, Look at me. I also hate family guy. I also used to hiss when I heard the name seth MacFarlane because I hate family guy and he is family guy.
The orville is not family guy.
The orville is not family guy in space.
The orville is a love note to star trek .
The orville is wholesome
The orville says the future is full of hope and love
The orville says trans kids matter
The orville says strong women
Yes there are silly jokes in the orville; it does not detract from the genuine sci-fi beauty this show is, but rather, adds to it.
The orville says people are complex and can carry all range of emotions from dramatic to comedic
Go watch the orville.
The Orville is truly different than anything else Seth MacFarlane had ever created. It’s a proper homage to Star Trek with strong characters of color, strong female characters, and tackles things like sexism, racism, and LGBTQ+ rights head on without shying away at the last minute like many other shows and films do.
If you enjoy sci-fi and are looking for a show with some hope for the future in these uncertain times, watch The Orville.

I honestly now think that maybe Seth MacFarlane's entire career was just a long game to build enough trust in Hollywood to get to do his own version of Star Trek.

I’m not gonna lie I don’t think I ever would’ve been into Star Trek primarily because of things like my generation and how I was raised like it wasn’t something I was ever going to get introduced to. I would’ve had to find it myself and by that point I don’t think it would’ve aligned with the person I was but….
THE ORVILLE!!
That is my Star Trek. I love it. I rewatched it 1 million times and I have no one to talk about it with. It’s beautiful and hopeful and complicated and gorgeous and hilarious and yeah cringe as fuck. But I LOVEEEEEE it
Penny Johnson Jerald and Mark Jackson have such amazing onscreen chemistry. From the beginning, they made a pact regarding Claire and Isaac's relationship that, although it is between a human and an artificial life form, they did not want it to come across as being comical, but genuinely sincere and romantic. They succeeded.
Seth created the character of Dr. Claire Finn specifically for Penny. She didn't even have to audition for the part. Mark auditioned via a video while he was still living in London.
My profile page on both Twitter and Bluesky is totally devoted to Claire and Isaac. In 2022, after watching their incredibly romantic scene in the simulator in From Unknown Graves, I was inspired to paraphrase Isaac's outpouring of love to Claire, and it is my pinned tweet on Twitter and Bluesky. And bonus, Mark Jackson retweeted it!
I've posted it below.
as a shojo manga fan and a rom com fan, the best love confession of all time is from the orville. isaac, an artificial life form, and claire, a human, are already in a relationship at this point. he can’t understand that he loves her the way she loves him, but he knows that he functions better when they’re a couple. he gets the opportunity to undergo surgery to allow him to feel emotions - emotions that were already there. he then tells claire everything she’d always hoped he felt. but not just the positives. it’s his first time with any of this - he describes everything that it really means to love someone. not just how beautiful they are, but how it feels to wait for them to enter the room, all of the nerves and longing. he describes the most fundamental parts of the emotion of love. my favorite line is “and i feel… so sad. for all of those people that have to live their lives without you.” love is knowing someone is so special that you can’t imagine them not being special to ANYONE. not just you. they are special in general. and anyone should be sad to not have them.
the surgery ends up only temporarily working on isaac, and the doctor tells him that it can be made permanent - if he gives up all of his memories. he tells claire that it’s up to her whether he gets the next surgery or not. matter-of-factly, he says that if she needs it to be with him, then it will be done. less immediately, she answers that she could never ask him to give up his memories. that’s who she fell in love with. she fell in love with an artificial life form BECAUSE the way he views love is fresh and devoted and all-encompassing.

This is what I wrote:
This remains one of the most romantic lines I have ever seen and it comes from a robot who experiences emotions for the first time

The Orville was more “Trek” than new Trek
When The Orville launched, many of the show’s characteristics matched what we loved about Star Trek more than Star Trek: Discovery did. (originally posted to RedshirtsAlwaysDie.com) So I wanted to come on here and take a look back to 2017. You see, for fans of science fiction, and more importantly, Star Trek, 2017 was going to be a big year for us because while Star Trek had been given a fresh…
WOMEN'S EQUALITY DAY (8/26/25)
Tuesday, 8/26/25, is the 105th anniversary of the 19th Amendment, which gave American women the right to vote. To celebrate, my awesome better half, Celeste, has arranged a march in Washington DC! So if you're in the greater DC area and want to join her, meet up at noon at Constitution and Pennsylvania. Costumes encouraged. Come dressed as your favorite female hero, real or fictional, or a Handmaid, or whatever you think might be fun. Or come as you are! All are welcome.
Here's the info:
8/26/25: Women's Equality Day March & Demonstration-Washington, DC, 12N-2P · Mobilize
And if you can't make it and still want to honor Women's Equality Day, Celeste suggests you wear a bracelet in suffragist colors (White, Gold, Purple) on Tuesday. To quote Celeste:
[quote]
MAKE A MY VOTE COUNTS BRACELET ON TUESDAY, 8/26/25:
Make a bracelet with yarn/ribbon/cloth scraps. OR wear your beaded amethyst/selenite/gold bracelets in a trio on Tuesday.
Know that you, as a woman, are celebrating your right under the 19th Amendment, ratified on 8/26/1920, to VOTE.
Wearing that bracelet in whatever way you create it, means MY VOTE COUNTS.
WHITE/GOLD/PURPLE wrist jewelry (quiet, but visual) non-partisan REVOLUTION.
💛🤍💜
#WhitePurpleGold_MyVoteCounts or post a pic of you wearing W/G/P on your wrist with #myvotecounts

Celeste went into this just trying to figure out what it took to get a demonstration permit in DC these days, then actually went forward with it. She's never organized anything like this before, and I'm super impressed she pulled it off.
So if you're in the area, please join her!
Happy Women's Equality Day.
Mark Jackson and his alter ego.
oh my GOD guys everyone go watch the orville RIGHT NOW
