prev tags: eccentric historical trivia is in fact the primary purpose of "this day in tmbg" as envisioned by its creator, John Flansburgh
I kid you not
me and bro when we're whimsical fairies 🧚♂️
more below!!!
john flansburgh grew up in an indie coming-of-age movie for real. originally met the person he'd end up forming 40-year-long-and-going band with in elementary, worked on the school paper with him later on, then lost touch for a bit before ending up back together. realised he needed glasses after he used a friend's pair during astronomy class and saw the stars clearly for the first time. got a fake ID from the same friend's workplace so he could sneak into punk shows. was one of the first americans to see elvis costello because he happened to be in the UK while he was performing and went back to tell everyone about him.
“Whenever they kicked into [Don’t Let’s Start], this warm wave would come across my entire body and say, ‘You’re home.’”
bonus:
JL: And I was born here, actually
Interviewer: Where?
JF: Yeah he didn’t come here, he was just here before
JL: Sloane Hospital for Women
JF: They made a mistake, they thought he was gonna…be another gender.
hmm?
TMBG Imagine
John Flansburgh walks out on stage and approaches the mic. He quietly surveys the crowd, sighs deeply, turns around, and leaves.
