Soup
Hot hot soup
fuck if it’s this easy why do they close the goddamn road for like five months shit
all outta soub :(
I work for the road crew in the summer. Crack sealing (the process you see above) is fairly quick and simple. (Though holding a hose that pumps literal tons of 350F tar into the road in the middle of the summer is NOT easy)
I think what a lot of people underestimate is just how much road there is in your city. And just how many directions the crew gets pulled.
For our city of around 50k people there are 8 of us.
Also, crack sealing is a wholly temporary measure, meant to slow the break-up of the roads, it’s not a permanent fix.
Roads tend to get closed for months on end because we have to tear the whole thing up, then, depending on the class of road, we either have to hammer-drill into concrete to lay rebar and the pour concrete, or we can get straight to paving. If it’s a road requiring concrete we’re required to wait at least 24 hours for it to set.
So after 2 days we’re finally able to pave. But the city allocates one (two if we’re lucky) 5 ton truck to transport material.
A relatively short paving job requires at a minimum of 60 tons. So that’s 12 trips to the asphalt factory and back. Each ton is around $80.
TL;DR
There’s a lot of road, not many of us, and soup is expensive.
Leave the soup men alone.
Leave the soup men alone, and go vote for people who will pay for more soup and more soup people
There’s a lot to like about this thread.
Story time. I (if I haven’t mentioned) used to own a farm in Oklahoma. Directions to my place included “turn off the paved road.” There was a couple miles of gravel up to the highway.
The county sent out notices that the road would be closed to re-gravel it to keep it from turning into just mud soup every time it rained. They let us know that for two days they would be closing the road (blocking our driveway) from like 6 AM to 5 PM or something to that effect so if anyone needed to leave to get to work they’d have to do so early.
We went out there while they were working and made a point of thanking them for their work and for getting something we desperately needed done so quickly.
Apparently, we were the only people the road crew talked to who weren’t there to bitch at them for the inconvenience.
It’s literally never the road crew’s fault. If it’s taking too long for you, go bitch at city council or the department of transportation.
Appreciate the people who do unpleasant jobs so you don’t have to.

Some people can lift 200 pounds. But if they carried it everywhere they went for an entire day without ever putting it down, they’d severely tear their muscles and cause permanent damage to their body.
Some people can enter a 140° car in the summer to get something out of the car. But if they stayed in the car, they’d die from the heat.
Some people can hold their breath underwater for 30 seconds. But if they tried to go scuba diving without the necessary gear, they’d drown.
Clearly, someone doing something for a short period of time does not automatically mean that they can do it indefinitely with no problem.
So why do people assume that if someone can walk for a few seconds, they don’t need a wheelchair?
Clearly, someone doing something for a short period of time does not automatically mean that they can do it indefinitely with no problem.
So much this.

Consecrate Your Tools!
I got a new pendulum the other day and just want to remind everyone to consecrate your tools before using them. This banishes all negativity from them and claims them as your own. Here’s an easy one i use:
Materials:
White Candle for South
Cup of water for West
Bowl of salt for North
Incense for East
If your tradition requires you to cast a circle, do so now. Light the candle and the incense. Take the tool or item you wish to consecrate in your hands, and face north. Sprinkle the salt over your tool and say:
Powers of the North,
Guardians of the Earth,
I consecrate this wand of willow (or knife of steel, amulet of crystal, etc)
and charge it with your energies.
I purify it this night and make this tool sacred.
Now, turn to the east and, holding the tool in the smoke of the incense, say:
Powers of the East,
Guardians of the Air,
I consecrate this wand of willow [or knife of steel, amulet of crystal, etc]
and charge it with your energies.
I purify it this night and make this tool sacred.
Next, face the south and pass the tool over the flame of the candle – be careful if it’s a flammable material such as Tarot cards or a robe – and repeat the process, saying:
Powers of the South,
Guardians of fire
I consecrate this wand of willow [or knife of steel, amulet of crystal, etc]
and charge it with your energies.
I purify it this night and make this tool sacred.
Finally, turn to the west, and sprinkle some water over your tool. Say:
Powers of the West,
Guardians of Water,
I consecrate this wand of willow [or knife of steel, amulet of crystal, etc]
and charge it with your energies.
I purify it this night and make this tool sacred.
Face your altar, hold the wand (athame/chalice/amulet/whatever) to the sky, and say:
I charge this wand in the name of Old Ones,
the Ancients, the Sun and the Moon and the Stars.
By the powers of the Earth, of Air, of Fire and of Water
I banish the energies of any previous owners,
and make it new and fresh.
I consecrate this wand,
and it is mine.
Now you’ve not only consecrated the tool, but you’ve also claimed ownership.

small ways to be a better person ✨
wait for someone if u notice they’re falling behind
if you have a moment of admiration or love for someone, say it out loud
give random song recs and send them things that made u think of them
be as kind to yourself as you are to others
be more aware of your surroundings and help people who seem to need help
if someone gets interrupted, ask what they were going to say
try to step inside someone’s shoes instead of judging them or labeling them
don’t say hurtful things especially if it’s not constructive
say “I love you” more often and spend more time with people you love
make sure everyone in the group is included
make someone’s day better by smiling at everyone you see and maybe saying hello
ask if someone is okay if you notice that they’ve been distant
I don’t know what’s going on but it’s a lot
