‘I’m speechless.’ - Patrick Jane

I so much like the fact that the sophisticated Patrick Jane, a man that is the most apt and resourceful guy in the room, reached a stage where he had to (and wanted to) confess the fact that there are things that move him to tears, that touch him, and that he’s not trying to conceal his feelings after he’s let them show. He has grown to trust Lisbon so much that he finally doesn’t need that mask of an unruffled know-all he’s so used to. The Jane in his relationship with Lisbon is the most serious he’s ever been and that we ever saw in the series. We almost don’t see him joking or fooling around in S7, he’s still himself but a person that cares for something precious, and measures his steps. He knows that being sincere with Lisbon is one condition that will make their relationship work and he’s trying to give her that, and it’s a delight to see how she accepts those attempts, appreciating his effort and doing more things for this Jane she loves to come to the fore some more.

Perhaps on many occasions it was not the time to tell Teresa about how he felt, nor was he ready, perhaps he thought something could take her away from him if he got closer, but I think Patrick knew how he would make her happy, what he would do, feeling her so well, to make her smile and feel content, he must have felt he was the right guy for her. He wished for her happiness, and it was more often with someone else. But deep down he hoped it was with him, loved back by her. I guess he thought quite often about what could make Lisbon happy and he imagined that he’d make it work for the two of them if there was a chance.
