Personality: Honestly??? A moron <3 (Especially when you see him surrounded by his intelligent cousins) He's the oldest of their children, but doesn't always act like it?? Impulsive as hell, lives in the moment, consequences?!??!? Always is getting himself into trouble - but never intentionally he just acts first and maybe thinks things through the next day. Still, he is, at heart, a good kid and always tries to make things right and always owns up to his mistakes. While Arthur saw that his son had the best education the Allen fortune could afford, Jonathan is definitely more street smart than book smart. He thrived much more when learning things out on the Wilson farm than in the confines of the Allen libraries. Can be very cocky and confident when he’s in his element. Always charming and sarcastic and in good humor.

Special Talents: Very athletic - fast runner, will beat you 9 times out of 10 in a foot race; loves to climb trees and when he’s living at the Allen house in the country, he definitely sneaks out of his room and climbs around on the roofs of the neighboring houses. Excellent sword-fighter, too (obsessed with swords, too. Swords are cool).

Who they like better: Probably Sarah. I feel like Arthur is often frustrated with him (he’s not mad, just disappointed -- which is worse than when his mother is angry with him). That said, he definitely loves them both a lot and wishes he was more like them.

Who they take after more: Probably Sarah again. He’s definitely an outdoors guy and I think he would like working with his hands and probably is more likely to want to work the Wilson farm than to follow in his father’s footsteps.

Personal Head canon: Named Jonathan for Arthur's great-grandfather, but Ben is CONVINCED that they named him after him since his alias was Jonathan at the Calverts. Ben also says that clearly he's been Sarah's favorite sibling all along. (It doesn't help that Jonathan definitely has some Ben-like tendencies).

Arthur is cautious when it comes to falling in love. He firmly believes that friendship is the cornerstone of any good romantic relationship and he likes to get to know someone first. He doesn’t believe in love at first sight - although he’s definitely felt immediate attraction before, he also knows that it rarely leads to love.

I also think Sarah is also the only woman he’s ever loved. He’s definitely met other women he felt he could have loved but tbh I feel like he’s also been very busy running around after his problematic siblings to develop those relationships. With Sarah though I feel like he knew early on (for him) and knew that she was the one.

So, Eli is def a loyal person in his own way, but he also def highkey prioritized his work bc he felt at the time that he was saving lives, etc, etc, so I do think he’d make a point of visiting w James even after he started hunting, etc, but I def think hunting cut into their bro time and that he primarily saw him afterwards when he happened to be in the area, and he probs didn’t do much in the way of announcing himself smh (mostly bc they do snailmail obv and, given the nature of his work, he wouldn’t know much ahead of time where he was off to next) so, like, if Arthur happened to be there when he showed up at James’, then they probs met and hung out etc, but if not then…probs not? so over the years I’d guess they’ve met a couple times but don’t necessarily know each other that well beyond acquaintances?  That being said, Arthur might have a slight advantage on Eli bc 1) I’m sure the Wilsons have talked about him 2) he would’ve had the advantage of overhearing any letters from him read aloud if he happened to be there when one came in, etc (though I feel like they were few and far between, he def did send them and Arthur was over often enough I’m sure there had to be some overlap there).

Nonetheless, now that Eli’s been here a couple months working on the barn, I feel like they’ve probs progressed in their relationship at lest a little bit?  So yeah I’m not sure where that’d land him on the sliding scale of Arthur’s impressions, bc I ~do feel like the Wilsons are pr free w their friendship esp to old friends but also, like, Arthur may know that Eli at least ~was a hunter so like?????? there’s a lot stacked against him but also a good bit for him so aljsdfajkadsakfjd lots of potential either way I guess lskdfjklsjd

Okay, so I think that Arthur probably was a little suspect of Eli when Eli first arrived, just because even though he had been friends with the Wilsons for a long time, Arthur really didn’t know him that well and I feel like he didn’t even really have a good enough reason for his feelings, but has chalked them up to the fact that he’s just over protective of Sarah and that he just needed to calm down on that score because clearly they are all fine - it’s been months, etc. 

Anyway, I feel like he might have been a little cold to Eli in the beginning, but he’s definitely warmed up to him and he’s probably even apologized for it, by now, too. IDK what Eli thinks/how he feels about Arthur???

EDWARD LOVES ARTHUR SO MUCH OMG!!!! <333333  So honestly, this depends a lot on how long they’ve known each other/been bffs!!  I do think Edward grew up w the impression that he had to hide his powers or yknow diE so he’s always been super scrupulous about this.  However, it seems, given what Louisa and Anna are going through, that the powers are more difficult to control when they’re still showing themselves?  I think Edward, for whatever reason, was a v early bloomer and developed his during childhood bc I feel like he’s always known?  Anyway!!  As such, even if he wanted to hide them, I can see where, if he and Arthur were bffs, Arthur eventually saw something or whatever and things proceeded from there and/or, being a lonely kid, Edward just straight up told him asp!!  (100% down for either if we decide to go w this.)

The older Edward gets by the time they met, however, the more unlikely he is to reveal his position UNLESS he believes it will have a direct benefit on the witch community.  For instance, if he believed Arthur was, say, a) more likely to bring his potion before the king and b) in a position to be able to influence him, if Edward told Arthur, then he’d do it.  Beyond that, though, he plays things close to the chest and he’s pr paranoid like he hasn’t even told his sister - tho, granted, in her case he’s trying to protect her rather than (as in most cases) himself.  That being said, if they met later in life, Arthur’s outspoken moralism is 100% what drew Edward to him in the first place and made him realize they had friend potential!!

So yeah!!  When do you think they met/became friends?  I’m honestly equally down for either option!!

Okay, so I actually kind of really like the idea that they were friends and then Arthur discovered what Edward was because something happened where it showed itself and Arthur was instantly like “hell no I’m not going to report you, you are my friend???” And i just see Arthur actually helping him in whatever way possible and that that’s what inspired his moralist viewpoint and he’s just been super vocal about it since, but without ever including Edward in his arguments because he certainly wants to protect his friend!!! 

I also have a headcannon where someone suspected Arthur of being a witch because he was so outspoken about it and they were on their way to turn him in and were caught in a very mysterious ~metal~ accident haha 

Anyway, due to the age difference, maybe they weren’t really friends until Edward was like fifteen or something/right around the time when his parents died? Like, maybe they became friends/were friendly a little bit before then and like I can see where maybe Arthur witnessed something when Edward was all ~emotional~ and angry and sad??? And that would mean that they’ve been friends for almost 30 years at this point, so I feel like they are pretty tight?? IDK thoughts about all of this?? I’m not sold on any of it btw if you’d rather Arthur didn’t know any of this!!

So, I think that he’s known the Wilsons for years, but if James/Eli drifted apart once they started to get older (and Eli became a fulltime hunter) than he probably wasn’t around when Eli was??? I think it probably also depends on when Eli went away (I’m not sure I had a timeline on it??) and also how much he would still come by to see James inbetween them being children and him going away haha 

Anyway! I feel like Arthur’s thoughts on Eli would probably depend a lot on how long he’s known him??? Like, if they’ve known each other for years atp, he’s probably cool w/ him but if he’s just meeting him now he’s probably a little suspicious of him??? i think that when that whole thing occurred anna really sort of came to terms with the fact she probably wasn’t going to ever get to be happy like she imagined she and arthur might be so she’s happy enough being his friend at this point and does REALLY hope he and sarah might be able to be together one day. if she can’t be happy in her future life, she has found that seeing those she cares about getting what they want is kind of the only thing that bring her joy (DAMNIT @thevalerianclarence​ WHY ARE YOU THE WORSE???)

So I deF think that James has been on a bit of a ~journey re: Arthur/Sarah!!  I think at first he thought it was a harmless flirtation and he was like ‘good for her out there having a good time’ but then as things seemed to get a lil more srs, he got more defensive about it bc he was worried that Sarah was gonna get her heart broken!! bc obv Arthur comes from a v different lifestyle (which…#ironique given his own attachments but here we are klasdjfkljsdfj I feel like that probs hadn’t happened, yet?).  However, when Arthur seemed ready to leave everything behind for her James was like ‘you go, bro’  THEN Arthur ~wasn’t ready to leave the money for her and James was like SCUM OF THE EARTH SCUM OF THE EARTH SCUM OF THE EARTH and thought it was just a big excuse and he’s like ‘if you try and make my sister ur mistress i have a shovel and a .45 i doubt anyone will miss you’ hahaha  I think, tho, that all got cleared up pr quickly hahaha James is just a v protective bro bc he loves his siblings lots!!

So I see that there were talks to get Arthur and Anna together!!  That was never gonna work for Clarence bc OBVIOUSLY Anna is destined for a crown, buT he 100% would have considered Arthur for Rose (his preference for her seems to be a weird age gap ladjflkjdkjf honestly I don’t think that’s wholly coincidental tho - I think he feels she requires an older man to ‘manage’ her #thanksdad)  

However, I think Arthur’s public Moralist leanings have canceled any interest Clarence may have had in that potential which is a shame bc Arthur is clearly a reasonable person and Clarence always respects that.  He may be hoping, still, that he can talk him round to Loyalism, but until that time, Arthur will have to look elsewhere for his future wife #ohno #ibethesdevestated #nosecretengagementshere ;DDDD  

Regardless, Clarence would like to bring Arthur around to Loyalism, regardless of whether Arthur marries Rose or not btw (tho Clarence literally can’t think of a higher honor for ~anyone than to marry into his family even if its just Charles or Rose on offer #gross ;D)!!!! so he can’t imagine that Arthur would actually turn down such an opportunity, if it ever arose again!!

haha yeah so arthur is super reasonable (arthur: um which is why i’m a moralist?????) haha so honestly good luck @ clarence to try to turn his leanings there that will not go well!!!! arthur is always super calm and polite and eager to put out fires and disputes instead of escalate them however, I feel like he would definitely show his sterner side if clarence was trying to convert him b/c he feels very strongly about his moralist leanings even if he isn’t always super vocal about them (however if you are asking him point blank/openly trying to debate with him, he’s not going to shy away from what he believes in!)

So yes!!!! I do think he’s told her about Sarah. I’m not sure if we are going to go with the potential plot that Kate AA suggested where Clarence was looking at Arthur as a potential for Rose, but made it seem like it was Anna haha and so there was basically a time where everyone thought that that might be a thing??? Which also might make sense for their friendship, given their age difference (especially if they’ve been friends for awhile?) And that would also make sense as to why  he would tell her about Sarah (which I absolutely thing he has done b/c yeah there are few people he can talk to and trust about it ++ if he thought she might be his future wife, he would feel she should have a right to know that his heart was elsewhere .... although at that time, he probably also didn’t have plans to actually try to marry Sarah, b/c he wouldn’t have broken even a potential engagement with Anna). Anyway, he definitely would have wanted to be up front with Anna about that, even though if they did get married, he would have cut ties with Sarah because he would neVER want to cheat on Anna (even emotionally). 

!!!!! i hadn’t even thought about it, but I feel like they both can 100% identify with each other on that level!!!! Like both of them would be so much happier to just leave their current lives (and their fathers!!!) behind but it’s not just as easy as all that!!!!!! I do think Arthur is hopefully optimistic that one day he will be able to Live His Best Life and have it all haha but even he is starting to wonder how long he can put off marrying to please his father and that soon he’s going to have to actually make a choice!!

OOC | Clarence on Arthur/Anna

Hey, so I was gonna edit my earlier posts, but then I couldn’t remember where I’d said things, so!!  Here’s Clarence on the Arthur/Anna issue.  So!!  Anna is destined for a crown and this has always been an absolute in Clarence’s mind so obv Arthur was never going to cut it unless some foreign king or god miraculously descended from the heavens to place him on a throne (and Clarence isn’t exactly a believer so it’s not looking promising ;D) esp since Arthur isn’t even a member of the peerage (shocking! ;D).  That being said, though, Clarence doesn’t want ppl to know what his plans are so its easier for him to move in and grasp what he wants, unopposed (and bc he doesn’t trust like that smdh).  

So!!  It’s possible that for some time, he sort of played a cat-and-mouse game w Mr. Allen thinking about marrying his daughter to Arthur.  He, of course, meant Rose but he’s 100% the sort of person who would make it ~sound like its Anna if that suited him at the time alksdjfklasjdf  So!!  My point is, if you guys want them to have believed asp that there was a real possibility they might have gotten married, that could be a thing via Clarence; if you want them not to have ever believed they’d actually get hitched, that could ALSO be a thing via Clarence…I’m up/down for whatever ;DDDD

SO! I’ve been considering this question for a long time ha! (basically trying to find the right combination of what makes the most sense ++ what will make our characters suffer the most) 

Okay, none of this is set in stone, but I’m thinking that, maybe, for a time, it seemed like Clarence and Mr. Allen were going to make a match between Arthur and Anna (even though it was really Rose Clarence had in mind for Arthur #facepalm). And perhaps that was how Arthur/Anna became such good friends in the first place, since they both thought that there was a real possibility that one day they would be married??? And then that all sort of fizzled out, but Arthur and Anna remained close? Also it makes my heart hurt for Anna who, for a second, thought she had a chance at a potentially happy and comfortable future with a guy that she loved and who is a moralist and even though he didn’t love her romantically, he does love and respect her so!!! much!!!! and they could have been so happy hahah but whoops all of that was just a game on her dad’s part!!!! (clarence is #dadgoals) and since then Arthur’s confided in her about Sarah having nO idea about the way Anna really feels about him! 

Anyway, thoughts guys?
