The claimers or the saviors?

Oh that’s a good one. The Claimers. They were horrible and rapey as well but at least they admitted to what they were doing was hurting people. Joe to Daryl at the end of 413, a pinnacle Bethyl episode: “why hurt ourselves when we can hurt other people?”

So yeah they were awful but they were at least honest about how awful they were. Negan and the Saviors with their lifestyle they offer their people, servitude or death, with rape thrown in for good measure and call it doing them a favor. Nope. It’s no contest.

Probably because of the actor who played Joe but I found the Claimers a lot more interesting than the Saviors. Also fans don't apologize for the Claimers the way they do for the Saviors. I know it’s not right to hold fans’ behavior against characters, but I’ll be a total hypocrite and admit that fans’ apologism for the Saviors has made me waaaaay less receptive to liking them.

This goes for trauma as well. A lot of times survivors get trapped in a cycle of  minimizing/diminishing their trauma because “other people have it worse” - but there is no hierarchy of trauma. There is no ranking system for which traumas are “better” or “worse.” Your trauma is valid. Period.
